John Hilbrands

Hi this is my youtube channel. It expresses my interests in camping, woodworking and home repair. I own a Carpet cleaning firm and am often involved in construction trades so will sometimes focus on those but I want to have fun here. There are a number of woodworking projects I have done that I wish to spotlight such as desks dressers and cabinets but will need to make the videos I also love tools and will spotlight those as well. I am currently making my Minivan camper and will hope to include traveling with it. Please subscribe and comment on what you like thanks for following.

    Perfect. I've watched several others who used the same slides as you but bottom mounted them. I was wondering about how that would hold up. I like your mount better

  • @johnhilbrands3274
    @johnhilbrands32743 күн бұрын

    Thanks most slides only have a intended mount direction so don't put a weight ratting when mounted in a non approved way. I did find one that had a weight of 25% when mounted flat so I would assume a 100 lb rating decreases to 25 when mounted flat. since you should not max out weight as placing heavy things bounces I would try to keep it at 75% of slide so a 100 lb weight on its side would be 18 lb or about the weight of the drawer and about 5 lb of load. Not a very good idea for a drawer for pans perhaps a spice rack I hope thats all they were using it for..

    I think thats a personal decision. This one is maximized to build fast and look cute and there arent really any comparables out there. I wasted alot of time trying to be perfect and the feet actually took the most time, a stand sander to round the edges and a way to hold multiples feet at a time against the sander would really have saved time. So you could get it down to 20 minutes and 15.00 to build I took about an hour and wasted some so an hour and 20 in costs for me. I would want 50.00 for an hours work. I would need 70.00 so it would be a hard sell I do know that every one loved theirs and still makes comments to me how useful it is its just hard to impress that on someone before they have used it.

    Thank you so much for posting this video, John. So very helpful. We had an Avante trim kit from 1995 (pull/push to turn on (i.e., pressure control) and twist for temp control). Our faceplate was round (not oval) with a single screw in the center to hold the round jewel-like plastic knob in place. We upgraded to the Weller, as well. We also replaced the cartridge because it was very difficult to turn on/off the water. If anyone reading has the same, we confirmed with Price Pfister that we didn’t need the retrofit kit - the metal sleeve screwed on easily onto the old inner metal threaded (retaining) ring and it kept the new faceplate in place. We did notice the handle wasn’t super solid after we screwed it on (tightly), it wobbled a tiny bit - likely due to the valve being set shallow so the handle cannot sit flush with the face plate. Also, we needed the plastic part inside the spout - that just slides on to the unthreaded (straight) copper pipe coming out of the wall. The Weller kit looks and functions so much better. (We got the Tuscan Bronze finish - really nice and on the plus side our kit purchased from Amazon had symbols for hot and cold.) Note that we opened a case with Price Pfister and attached a photo of our old trim kit before starting the project. They were super helpful and guided us through what we needed. They said we only had three options if we didn’t want to change the valve: Weller, Pfirst Series and Pfirst Modern. And the cartridge for the our valve (0X9) is model #974-292. Thanks again and good luck to others.

    On this video I decided to try a different format rather then editing severely clips they are sometimes not perfect for showing everything vs just a descriptive video of finished product how about a full descriptive video with inset clips. This solved a lot of issues with voice sync and trying to add clips which then needs a voice over. So it shows the work and a full descriptive at the same time let me know what you think.

    I thought this was a good video to reference for the fence I built. Then he gets to his gate, and it was at this point he lost all credibility to me. The diagonal support brace on the gate is backwards. It should always be from the bottom of the hinge side to the top side of the latch side. Else it doesn't do jack diddly.

    Not here to knock this video but you’re exactly right. It’s astonishing how many builders don’t understand physics. I see far too many gates built incorrectly by “professionals.” I’d be ashamed to put my name plate on some of these fence projects

    Thank you. I see some rules say to drain off site while some camp rules say camp kitchens free off debri using camp soap and 200 feet from stream broadcast in bushes is fine. It is a good idea to bring at least a bucket just in case. Also know that you should leave no trace while camping and that includes a puddle of goo so resist the idea of treating like a home or RV sink using paper towels to wipe out plates first should help but if you know its contaminated carry the bucket to a drain even if its not required.

    You're very lucky that cartridge came out fairly easy. It can be very very difficult to get that out. Sometimes you have to use a bolt/screw extractor to get it out and apply steady pulling pressure (no wiggling or shaking) to get it out. Thanks for this video! 👍👍👍

    Thanks for taking the time to make a video on Shadowbox fences installation. Perfect timing. I am building this type fence for the 2nd time(for a neighbor). The 1st time was in the "pre youtube era" (before 2005) so I had to wing it. Thanks to youtube and guys like you, I now can get ideas from people across the globe and incorporate the look I want based on different fencing techniques. I appreciate you greatly...and youtube for inventing this platform.

    Hi, I'd like to know what diameter deck screw you used, because my simpson strong tie bracket comes with 4 little holes in it, and the screws I have are too large to fit through any of those predrilled holes in the bracket. What size deck screw will actually fit through those predrilled holes? Thanks so much!

  • @johnhilbrands3274
    @johnhilbrands3274 Жыл бұрын

    You can open my description with a computer and see a lot of written information so most questions are answered there. It is a size 9 gauge. they do fit but are tight also the head doesn't countersink but keep in mind that a thinner screw would be weaker.

    They ask you to remove certain files or pay. This isnt some hack but doing what their popup says to do. Qcad is open source so was made by a community so cant be charged for. probably those extra functions were privately made and can be charged. If you want the extra functions by all means pay the fee.

    There is no quick calculator for area you use a tool under the measuring tape image on the left side called polygonal area after choosing it their is a check box to add dimensions to drawing near the upper left of screen check it. To use its like any polygon tool you left click points as you draw around the object right click ends and connects to the first point and it gives you the area. if you make changes you delete it and start over). pretty simple just experiment with the tool.
