hi, i'm malin! can I interest you in some cozy vibes & games?

my favorite game is animal crossing, so you can expect a lot of that here - inspiration, guides and even a let's play series!

but i do also love other cozy games though (switch & PC), so every once in a while there'll be some some variety content like testing out cozy games or even a deep dive into a specific game when I especially love it!

i hope you enjoy your time here and that we can all find games & hobbies that inspire us!

I also stream on Twitch (twitch.tv/sparksby)!🤎

hii i love ur videos!! this video is so helpful as i've been in a slump with my island theme! :) (this will be extremely long so thanks to whoever reads this for ur time LOL) colours : i'm trying to do a small-town shift into the forest vibe, so i think that browns, beige and generally just wood tones would work. i also want to have a lot of yellow, green and pinks. season : i'm mixed between spring and autumn - autumn has the gilmore girls vibes that i want (absolutely love that show) and the browns suit my aesthetic so well, but spring is so lively and gorgeous, and the flowers look stunning in that season. summer also has all of my main bushes grow, but i think autumn fits my vibe the most. aesthetic : i would love to have a small-town forest and coastal vibe all at once, I want the parts by the beach to be super inviting and pretty, and i want the main town area to feel alive and bright. the forest part, i want lots of trees and pathing to each home and to the inclines. i quite literally want the town to be stars hollow vibes. hobbies : i absolutely love going to the beach so i want my beaches to have a lot to do, i want to add a soccer field and a volleyball area with tables near it. ( i wish the villagers could actually PLAY volleyball tbh. ) i also love hiking, so i want my trails to be accessible and lively with flowers and designs. structure/pathing : i want a natural land with a lot of places to walk around, i've also been obsessed with the water tool so i've been adding lakes and rivers EVERYWHERE. i also prefer the land bridges over the actual bridge tool. i tend to use a lot of the more realistic codes, there's this one creator who's name i can't spell as it's in chinese (i think it's like ren in english though!) but their custom codes r AMAZING. items : i definitely want to use the azuyama (i think that's how it's spelt) gazebos and the wheat fields everywhere. i also want a lot of fruit trees and flowers everywhere to add pops of colour. villagers : i've pretty much got all of my dreamies because i was extremely lucky w my first island, but i'd love to have tangy, kiki or merry! even vivian would work well. most of my villagers have a blue and pink theme with their appearance, so i think another villager of those colours work. my fave villagers are definitely the deers. i can deffo picture the vibes, i'd love to make a moodboard in my free time. i don't really want a specific theme or aesthetic, i just want to do whatever i want and make it cohesive LOL! i'm also thinking of putting random graves everywhere to add a bit of 'wtf??' when people visit. thank u for the helpful video!!

I totally feel ya on a nemesis villager. Right now mine is Rizzo, because he's everything that I dislike about a villager. He's a mouse which is my least favorite species, his design is based off of the Japanese stereotype of a thief, and he's cranky. Plus, his name now unsettles me because it has the word rizz in it, which just adds to the creepy factor of his character. What's worst of all is that he was an autofill and he hasn't asked to leave yet.

I have Pate on my island too. She was my starter peppy villager and initially I thought I'd have her move, but then changed my mind after a few weeks. The anxious look on her face paired with her peppy personality made me feel very protective over her for some reason. So now she'll be a permanent resident alongside Celia. I've always had a fondness for Animal Crossing and even though New Leaf is my favorite installment, I still adore New Horizons. I honestly think NH has the best museum in the series, especially the aquarium. I hadn't played NH in over two years and even sold the game to a secondhand store. I bought it again a month ago after my dad died and have been watching this series as I play my file. When I bought it at launch I spent all my Nook Miles on tickets and so when I finally got 3 stars I was flat broke and couldn't buy the terraforming permits. I spent almost a month grinding the daily points and still didn't reach the 6k needed for water scaping and so I gave up in frustration. Now on this file I refuse to let my Nook Miles get below 20k even though I know I only need 12k for both major permits.

I totally understand that we are all disappointed that Nintendo hasn't updated the game in awhile, but I respectfully completely disagree with you about the idea of adding Sims-esque dlc packs that would have furniture sets. Over the years the Sims 4/EA have become notorious for the way they put together dlc packs, especially stuff packs and kits, and are viewed as a cash cow company that doesn't put much love into their project. With Animal Crossing, its always been a game about community and Nintendo's brand has always been about togetherness and passion in their work. Thats why players are so willing to wait for hyped titles to come out if its delayed. They trust Nintendo are doing everything they can to perfect it before launch. Also if you think of furniture kits for ACNH specifically, it would be taking away a core element of community game play. Assume one player has the diner series and another player has the vintage series, both of which furniture sets go well together. One player visits the other online, the one who doesn't own the opposite players series would not be able to see it bc they don't have that dlc or it would be there but there would be some sort of prompt asking if the player wants to purchase it when they interact with it. That would make visiting friend's islands feel much more transactional/ulterior motive rather than seeing each other. That would also mean that if players tried to trade items to help each other out like they currently do (just like your Meliora Melin helped Kalon Melin) would be extremely difficult to do. The players would have to coordinate and figure out which dlc's each person owns. Even the cheesier ways we get items like through Treasure Islands would no longer be possible if dlc's exist. Now take a different game like Stardew Valley for example, where Concerned Ape has been doing game-pack level updates to his game for free and kept the game price low at $15 and there are dedicated fans to this day that can never imagine another farming sim being able to live up to it. In fact, when Nintendo re-launched the Harvest Moon games from the gameboy/gamecube era as the Story of Seasons name, they used a lot of the streamlined mechanics that Concerned Ape innovated. I hope I explained my reasoning well and that it was good food for thought.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, because I thought it was very cute and relatable...I love that you're making a Botanical garden, but couldn't remember the word botany (the study of plants). I'm always impressed with people who can vocalize all of their thoughts and gameplay in an entertaining way. You do a great job and are obviously engaging if I'm over here yelling botany at my computer. Hahaha.

I think all your concerns are valid, but the way I see it is that there's always an ebb and flow to what people are interested in. There are plenty of games that lose hype only to be popular again bc the comparison to newer installments shift perspective. Some games even have a cult following in a similar way that movies do and although its a niche audience the commitment is hardcore and you can still get a lot of interest that way. Your personality and voice is very soothing so even if you tried to shift gears it would come across as an act and viewers can pick up on that. It's always important to be strategic but don't stray from what you gravitate to. Just stay true to yourself, your own interests and passion and the audience will follow. I honestly think that most of the hype that came from this game was that everyone was stuck at home because of the pandemic and it made us feel like we were part of the world still. That said, I think in some ways its actually good that the hype has died down and the people who remain are playing it as it was meant to be. From a viewer perspective, I can tell you that when I looked up ACNH lets plays there were island tours for three pages straight and it honestly annoyed me. The tips and tricks videos are definitely helpful but I've felt that this type of content allows people to I had to do some digging before I found your channel and I'm glad I did.

I'm villager hunting at the same time I'm watching this and ironically T. Bone was one of them that I came across. I totally get why you like some species and not others. For me my least favorite is mouse bc their body proportions are so weird to me and their beedy eyes kinda creep me out. I also don't like the super bright colored villagers bc the colors hurt my eyes. I also try to avoid the super popular ones so that visitors to my island will see a variety. When I first started thinking about who I wanted on my island I thought about picking ones with the same bdays as me, my husband and other family members, then I considered special ones that are unique to their species (like Renee the rhino being the only sisterly rhino), then I thought about ones that would fit my theme. After awhile I stopped thinking about it so much and just chose ones that I liked their vibe/aesthetic and went with that. I'm hoping to find Goldie one day though.

I really enjoyed watching this since I'm much more of a visual learner and to see your thought process was really helpful and inspirational. I've used the free version of Canva and its really in-depth like you said but it was cool to see the pro version of it too. I'm a little more laid back in my design ideas but the one little trick that I've come up with to know which villagers are going to be permanent residents is I create a succulent plant for them. Its really easy to make, it makes a nice welcome gift, and its something that is a good visual reminder for me that I want to remodel the villager's house later.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said, especially about the instant gratification aspect. What a lot of people don't realize is that while we the viewers get to experience the final result, theres an incredible amount of passion and love that goes into all those hours we spend making our islands. I often get the sense that people watch island tours and think they want to do something like it because its nice to look at and want to impress other people, not that they are truly interested in the process of seeing your hard work build up over time. They want the clout but not the passion, if that makes sense. Overall, it makes me sad that so many players try to min/max this game. It was created to be a community-focused slow burn that makes you feel like you belong.
