Just came across this video today. Gave the standing jumps a trial run in the house with my wife and one of my sons Later I was out on a short ride with the same son (8yo), came across a flat spot on the road, gave it a shot and was able to bunny hop 4 or 5 time. I didn’t get a ton of air but I’ve never been able to before and my son was super impressed. Thanks!

Love the channel. I did your math and it came out to 800. I currently have 740 (29") and they are way to wide, they make my neck hurt and shoulder hurt very badly and i also have trouble breathing on this particular bike. My shoulders are only about 18"wide. My road bike has 18 inch bars at the widest point and they are perfect, no pain and i breathe excellent. This would be ridiculous on my MTB im sure. I am about to whack about 4 inches off my current bars and see how she goes. After that ill just take an inch at a time until i can ride with no pain.

Fantastic. Is that senior? Me and my USA wife have finished cleaning and rebuilding the entire mountain's trails and dirt jumps. It took us nearly a year. A few fallen tree's left to cut through, but that's it mate. Many old trails and old dirt jumps that had grown over with grass, and bracken and we're abandoned, we have reconditioned and reopened also. We saved the local council at County City Hall hundreds of thousands of £pounds in tools and workforce labor. The pair of us we paid for it all ourselves, we spend between us both about £500 pounds on tools. Just sheer British blood, sweat, toil and tear's. We just cut through the red tape and beacraucy and went for it hell for leather. It's finished. God bless you all.

It does matter what bike you are on for sure, my enduro came with 800mm bars which felt ridiculous coming from a 90s bike and I hated the dull steering so I got new bars, cut them down to 700mm and sweet jesus was that a mistake on that bike. Slack head angle is the reason the steering felt like that (new to me), changing to shorter bars didn't make my steering sharper, it just took away my leverage and made it feel like I would jar my elbow or lose it on rough stuff. My other bike with also modern but more road bike like geo I'm running 760mm which is a little wider than I feel I need (and the reason I thought 700mm would be all sweet) but I leave it wide because I use 3 hand positions to vary up my grip. The most comfortable feeling is probably about 700mm because I have half my hands over the brake levers Ike they're horns on a drop bar (which I should have on that bike arguably). There is no world in which the same bars on these two bikes make sense. By your calcs my ideal is 810mm, my shoulders are 600mm wide (wish I could claim that was rippin delts but it absolutely is not 😅). Both my bikes are too long in the frame, unfortunately I measures my wingspan from an arm that was longer than the other without realising it (surgery) so I've had to put a lot of time into getting bars right to try and fix this. Maybe that's the reason but yeah there's no world in which those two types of bike should have the same width in my view.

you guys are awesome! I'm a skater who never quite became a bmxer but always preferred bmx as my bike of choice because of how compact and agile they are. I could always do manuals a bit and my hops were decent and loved to boost them off stuff like speed bumps and the little curved corners of drive ways and side walks. Just got back into bmx and felt a little rusty but your tips were great! especially the plyametric jumps. it's almost the same jump I've used to teach new skaters how to ollie. similar physics, except using your front foot to level the board instead of the arms with the bike. anyways this video was super helpful. Keep rolling guys! 👍😎👍🚲

From 660 to 720 to 780... And then from 25.4 to 31.8 to 35... And then fork, 28, 30, 32, 34... 3x7, 3x9, 2x8, 1x12... You definitely need a new bike. That is the whole point. Buy a new bike and make us a profit. None of above things will change anything substantially in your riding experience. Actually on blind test you wouldn't notice the difference. Remember transfer to post mount disc brakes? That was a step back, because once you damage the thread you can say bye bye to your frame or fork. But it was new, modern, advertised... I have to change my bike, because of post mount. Because of cables routings inside frame... Because.. they (industry) made me do it. So what is next? When handlebar length race will stop? At 920? 960? 1020 so you can bite the steam with your teeth? If your arms are long enough.

good reminder to keep trying until you get it. i tend to just want to ride trails because it seems more fun, but managing to pull off something new feels so great! i already made it up a tough climb trail with no walking this summer and am working my way up to no brakes down a berm section of another trail and getting onto the wall ride at the end of a third. my local MTB org offers 2-hour skills clinics taught by local experts. i had each of my kids pick their favorite and signed up with them. did cornering with my 8-year-old already and am looking forward to technical climbs and descents with my 10-year-old! also proud dad moments when my kids' skills fit in with the other adults who signed up :)

Dude right on!! Applying this same approach to sections on the trail is the way to be & progress quickly. We're going to do a similar video to this on trail doing things to challenge ourselves, but we really wanna encourage sessioning hard sections of trail in future videos! No kidding!? That's epic. I bet that's a super proud dad moment! Love it.

Your video might have fixed what my wife experienced for several years but could not explain it. No physio could help her. But we bought her a gravel bike lately, and Gravl bars basically have 0° and 90° backsweep. Her pain in the shoulder was gone riding her Gravel-bike even doing 50+mile rides. So I looked for bear geometry help and found your video. Thank you for that! Very glad I found you!

I second the keep it fun comment! If it's stressing you out too much its good to come back to it later in a fresh headspace. Yall are rad. Gotta catch a session with you guys at that park sometime this summer! Looks incredible.

Think this video was a great idea. But some of those tricks are only relatable to BMX riders, and 10-20 tries is really nothing. I'd be more interested in what it takes to do master foundational skills that require 10-20k attempts. 1) Listing off 10 esoteric tricks just goes in one ear and out the other for people who are not BMX riders. Maybe a limit of 3 tricks would be better. It's Joy of Bike, not Joy of BMX. Although there is much to be learned from BMX. 2) You are totally wasting the three amigos format by letting each person pick their own challenge. Have the two pick the weakness of the third, and set the challenge. And make it something foundational, rotation, skinnies, etc. The idea is that the the two make the third better. Else, you may as well ride by yourselves. 3) The challenges are way too easy. Should be something that takes a 100 attempts or more. Break it up into multiple multi-day videos.

Great video guys. I been riding for many years and it takes me many more try's to get simple tricks sometimes. It takes riding constantly everyday and willing to endure alot of pain. It's a very physical sport that alot of people don't realize whats involved. Instagram clips doesn't show how much commitment it takes to pull these tricks. And how much work you got to put in. 🍻
