    I ride mostly east coast woods with an occasional day at the MX track. Pretty much trail riding like slow harescramble-ish pace. I’m on a 24 TX300 and looking to replace the stock AT81 in the near future. I’m torn on what to get to fit the bill. Was looking at the irc vx30 & vx40.

  • @WASemiHardEnduro

    I just go based on feel. It’s constant modulation of the clutch, so sometimes all the way out, all the way in, and everything in between.

    I added TWENTY ONE total ounces as an experiment (initially 9oz clutch on the clutch... Subtle change... then added an additional 12oz flywheel) just to see what would happen and if I needed to remove the clutch weight. SURPRISED it is Nirvana 😊. Similar to my Honda 300 Cota Trials, its lugging capability is awesome but still with the sporty snap of this renown 2t 300. Easy to be playful dancing the front wheel off roots etc like my trials bike but now more controlled propulsion on my 2023 TE300i. In short, absolutely love this set up in the gnar as well as open trails (and you know I love the technical gnar and Hill climbs). I NEVER would have tried this simple combo but I stumbled into the experiment fully expecting it would dog the throttle response. Nope... Nirvana 😊

    The XCW does have a heavier flywheel than the XC. But it’s not a weight, it’s just the flywheel itself. You can add a weight to either one.

    I had an 8oz on my '20 TPI and loved it. As you said, it was subtle but where you noticed it was where it counted. I think the biggest problem is folks think more is better and end up with too heavy a FWW which can zap power and make the bike harder to spool up the rev's. I'm a fan for sure.

  • @WASemiHardEnduro
    @WASemiHardEnduro6 күн бұрын

    Agreed. I had a 9oz on my TPI and liked it a lot. 12oz seems like too much. The 7oz on this bike seems like the sweet spot!

    JD Tuner was great for cleaning up the fueling, but the ERM (or any reflash) can do timing and power valve in addition to fuel, which helps massively. Way more power, much cleaner running, and the map switch now makes a huge difference.

    VE33S has been my go to. Looking at the GT333NX. How do they compare? Was debating a switch from VE33S/VX30 to the GT333NX/GT216AA. Would that be a mistake? See you have reviewed both…

  • @WASemiHardEnduro
    @WASemiHardEnduroАй бұрын

    The 333NX is more of a true gummy, the VE33s is a hybrid. The 333 is taller. The GT216 is a harder compound (last longer, less grip in roots/rocks). The GT Fatty is a very big tire.

    I’m not tire spinner but Dunlop’s at81ex is soft and only last for 15 hours. I flip the direction each 7-8 hours which is about half of its life I think this tire is close to ix09w and has 2 plies of struct as well. I had 3 flat tires in 6 hours with tubliss…… What do you think about JX8? In between ve33 and ix09?

  • @WASemiHardEnduro
    @WASemiHardEnduroАй бұрын

    I'm a big fan of the JX8. It's very similar to the AT81EX. The JX8 seems to have a stiffer sidewall through, but they both have soft crowns. I like the JX8 a bit more overall, but the AT81EX has larger/wider knobs that help it dig in soft terrain instead of folding.
