Welcome to the official KZread channel of the Vulcan Restoration Trust, the registered charity that cares for Avro Vulcan B2 XL426 at London Southend Airport, known as the 'Southend Vulcan'.
Dad flew in this Vulcan on multiple occasions and was part of the aircrew when it was the Vulcan display aircraft. I’ve still got his display air suit from that time. Good to see it still going strong.

Is there no way to get a Vulcan flying again? XM655 looks to have a little airframe life left, and I know the runway at that airport is much too short to fly a Vulcan out of, but they got that aircraft in there somehow so there must be a way to get it back out.

I think it was in the 60s when the USA invited the RAF Vulcans to an exercise to test the effectiveness of the USA air defenses. On TWO separate occasions, the Vulcans successfully penetrated their defences and carried out simulated dropping of nukes on the USA. This embarrassed the Americans, and this was kept secret and hidden from the people for decades. True story that can be researched.

I know it cost a lot of money too keep these beautiful airplanes up there in the sky but why can’t we have these planes flying again

I second this inquiry! Is it a parts availability issue or is there just no desire there in the UK to keep one flying? Would be cool to have one last flying copy making the airshow circuits. I have the same wish for our native F-14 tomcat here in the states. Should have NEVER sold them to Iran otherwise we would still have a few flying.

It’s multiple issues including parts, qualified mechanics and pilots, money! but there might well be an airframe lifespan issue where vast numbers of components, namely wing spars, would have to be replaced.

I once watched one of these beasts taking off at an airshow. The word 'loud' doesn't do the experience justice. It basically rips the air apart.

I heard they spent £10,000 on fuel, what a waste of money. its about time they sent it for scrap.
