Attended the winter servicing yesterday and had a very informative and enjoyable day. All the volunteers and staff etc were very friendly and help-full. As I am building an 80” radio controlled model of XL426 it was a good opportunity to get photos and ask lots of questions, of which I did and every one spoken to was very helpful. Thanks to all who are working on the Vulcan , you are doing a marvellous job.

It seems only yesterday I was a RAF Telegraphist at 1 Group Bawtry. Many nights I spent listening for the "Kites" on guard frequencies. Our callsign was Cheese Bobcat. On the wall was the Squawk Box. High Wycombe was the Bomber Controller and at anytime that voice got your backside twitching, "This is the Bomber Controller all 1 Group Aircraft Scramble". Thanks for what you are doing chaps. Happy days! Cheese Bobcat listening out.

As a child I lived next to filton airfield and I can remember being almost deafened by the Vulcan test bed with a Olympus added underneath the sound was absolutely earth shattering with 5 ? Engines at full chat ! Never seen a aircraft take off that big that fast

Excellent news. I was sad to see XH558 leave the skies and look forward to seeing XL426 take her place. BAe apprentice '78/'82 @ Bitteswell.

@@desertmandan123 No, none of them will ever fly again. Many reasons.

@@owensmith7530 Shame, but good that they will be kept in ground running condition.

@@desertmandan123 Once it has been disassembled for a move to its new home, XH558 will not be in ground running condition. It will not be able to run its engines as I understand it. I always thought Doncaster was the wrong place for 558 once flying ceased (no other museum assets there) and so it has proved.
