    Thank you for the compliment. I haven't had any trouble with the center stand dragging on hard turns. However, I am not an aggressive rider, so I don't push the limits on turns the way some 20-something riders might. I am delighted with my 1100. The DCT is a different riding experience from a manual transmission bike, but I think the dual-clutch automatic works well for the kind of cruising that I prefer. I have come to believe that 90% of manual shifting is mostly busy work. Here is the major difference. The automatic transmission tends to keep shift points at around 2000-2500 RPMs. When I switch to manual mode, I tend to rev the engine toward the 4000 RPM range before shifting. So, be aware the DCT will change the way you ride. Overall, I think this is a very good motorcycle for the money. Here are some things I think Honda could have done better. I wish the riding position were more upright and the stock seat were more comfortable. A larger capacity gas tank seems reasonable for a cruiser. Acceleration is lively and handling is fairly nimble, but I'm disappointed the motorcycle is limited to 100 mph or slower, even though I have never pushed the bike above 90 mph and probably never will. I would prefer a belt drive or a drive shaft to reduce the amount of chain maintenance needed. Engine and transmission are strong and durable. The bike is well equipped from the factory with antilock hydraulic disk brakes front and rear. Traction control is an excellent safety feature. The bike is not designed to do wheelies, so electronically dampening front wheel lift is not really an issue for me. I like user-selectable riding modes, and i use the standard equipment cruise control frequently. And the 1100 looks more like a traditional motorcycle than a video-game crotch rocket. I took French in high school and 16 credits hours of French in college, but if I made mistakes below, please blame the glitchy translation on Google.

    What is DCT??

  • @papastevesgarage
    @papastevesgarage2 ай бұрын

    DCT is Hondas acronym for dual-clutch transmission. The 1100 DCT has a 6-speed automatic transmission with one clutch releasing and engaging gears 1, 3, and 5; and the other clutch engaging and releasing gears 2, 4, and 6. The transmission always has the next gear already engaged when a shift is required. To change gears, the DCT just needs to release one clutch while engaging the other. A dual-clutch transmission makes shifting gears nearly instantaneous. Smoothing out the shifts by electronically matching engine speed to drive gear speed, makes for quick, smooth gear shifts. That's one of the reasons most six and seven figure super cars have dual-clutch transmissions instead of manual gearboxes.

    Not a good idea. The only lock would be at the front of the seat then. That would not be very safe. I have since installed a chrome knurled thumb nut that I ordered from Amazon. Brand new shiny off the shelf bolts with aftermarket hardware on a beautiful stock bike is such a bummer and all the companies do it. Nobody thinks about the bolts. Must be costly or something?? At least offer the bolts that are highly visible on the side of the bike in black.

    Wow. I meant to answer this right away. Sorry it took so long. Right after I installed the center stand the rear wheel cleared the ground by enough that I could spin it easily. However, the last time I did chain maintenance, I got a bit too much friction between tire and ground to spin it easily. A 1/2 inch piece of wood under each center stand foot solved the problem. I suspect the cold weather, a difference in tire inflation or a combination of both made just enough difference to change clearance. It could have been where I parked the bike on my concrete driveway. I can't say for sure. Papa Steve

    The Honda fairing is difficult to install, the plexiglass is a little short, and the fairing doesn't cover the hands well. I don't have experience with the fairing on the tour model, but from what I've read the coverage is better. There is certainly an advantage to buying the 1100 with the fairing already installed. Here is something to consider, though. Several aftermarket manufacturers have windscreens available for the 1100. Those can save you money and you might even prefer the look. Check out Memphis Shades' alternatives, especially the El Paso Sportshield. I like the look better. It comes in various heights and tints.

    I suspect you're pulling my leg, but to clarify. The Rebel 1100 "wheelie control" is designed to keep the front wheel on the ground, not help you keep the wheel in the air while preventing from tipping over. The Rebel 1100 would not be my choice of motorcycles if doing wheelies was my thing. It's a cruiser, not a sport bike. Turn off the Torque Control and the 1100 has enough power and torque to get a bit of a front wheel lift, at least with the manual transmission version. I can't attest to the DCT version. The DCT is what I have, and I don't plan to try it.

    Hi, would using this bike in Rain Mode make for a good first bike or is the 500 a wiser decision please? I love the idea of the DCT but fear the power of 1100cc as a newbie. If DCT was available on the Rebel 500 I'd go for that in a heart beat. Great video

    I don't hesitate to recommend the 1100 to a beginner. You'll get better features with it than with a 500. Use Rain Mode if that satisfies your comfort level. I find the bike to be well behaved even in Sport Mode. The throttle is not too touchy and has built in traction control in all modes and antilock brakes. Those are confidence builders. The weight of the bike at 500 pounds and its low center of gravity both favor new riders. Also, the factory put a limiter on the bike to max it's top speed at 100 mph. I estimate that with it's existing power and gearing it could probably hit 130 mph without the limiter. The cap is a bummer for some people, but I suspect the 1100 was not really engineered for safe speeds faster than 100 mph. I'm OK with it. I've taken mine up to 90 mph for very short distances. At that velocity you really aren't cruising anymore. Keep in mind that the motorcycle can go from 0 to 60 in 4-5 seconds if you crank the throttle fully open. I don't recommend a first-timer be that aggressive with the throttle. You'll get enough thrills leaning through the twisties or cruising on the highway at 65 mph. Treat the 1100 with respect and you won't get into trouble with it.
