Haley Villena

finding fulfillment in the ordinary

👋🏼 Hi, I'm Haley! In 2020, I began my minimalism journey after realizing that the never-ending chase for "more" was taking over my life - physically, emotionally, and mentally. By eliminating the excess, streamlining my routines, and being more mindful about my daily habits, I've learned to appreciate a slower pace of life and contentment with less. From homemaking to dressing, healthy habits to routines, my intention in this space is to inspire you to thrive in simplicity.

It’s funny because when you said you noticed you started using KZread a lot more, I remembered that that’s also how I am. I deleted my most used social media app and immediately KZread shorts and entertainment videos on KZread started taking my attention. Thank you for this video. It brought back my awareness 😅

Some double stick tape would really help some of these styles. Sometimes it's hard to get everything even and tight, and then the fabric stretches as you wear it. The double stick really gives a bit more security

I've had the Social Media purge thought creep into my mind from time to time though that's how I connect with so many people across the chapters of my life so mulling it over/praying about it but the Resisting the Season One is In really resonated with me as I'm going to through a season of change and metamorphosis. It's not overnight but still astounds me how fast how much has changed. Truly leaning into and embracing it has given the season and the change/growth so much more meaning and purpose as opposed to be the passive almost absentee party in my own change and season. And finally, the constant more, more, more (more to-do's and goals and dreams, more areas to learn, more toxic and unnecessary BS) has been present thought a lot of my early adulthood and even teenage years, but now, operating with a sense of intention (or one might say planning) and committing to those full steam, also adds a layer of purpose and meaning to the things that I am doing instead of throwing it all against the wall and seeing what sticks. Actually devote time and energy to those things and if they don't work or do it for me, then they must go. Really appreciated this video and reminding me some things I need to keep along the path I'm on (also sorry it's really long xD )

Woah! thank you for sharing this. One of the key things you point out here that caught my attention is the glamorizing part. That was one of the things i was pondering about in the previous years and can’t really express the thought to words but you put that really well in this video! and i thought i was the only one noticing it which can feel like im going crazy for thinking so especially when romanticizing one’s life is being promoted. at some point romanticizing helped me but overtime it subtly felt im doing things performatively. it’s not obvious but i could feel it. it’s confusing because it’s like reality but more of fantasy and it’s hard to distinguish. while it was fun and it made me feel i have everything in my life under control by romantaicizing i don’t think it feels genuine in the long run if done excessively.

  • @HaleyVillena

Hi Andrea! Thanks for honestly sharing your thoughts and experience with the whole act of romanticizing. It’s hard to distinguish these things when they’re so prevalent in our culture 😣

This is exactly what I’m trying to do this year! I’m doing a low buy year and trying to simplify my environment. And to keep myself accountable I started a YT channel 😅 But like you have said I realized I can’t squish everything into my life so I’m filming videos and letting myself create a backlog so I don’t burn myself out. When I’m ready I’ll have a nice set of videos to post and I won’t feel as stressed about it while trying to work and be a mother. Thanks for sharing!

I put my house to bed every night… I straighten and put everything in its place. I get the coffee pot ready too. It’s nice to get up in the morning to a neat home and smell the coffee brewing ❤️ I just started to do a whole house declutter too. It’s going slow but ok. I retired 2 years ago and now hubby and I realize we need to down size so the decluttering is key. Thank you for all your great tips, I’ll tune in for more 🌺

I like the new coffee "pod" machines that work with coffee without an aluminium capsue. It's basically a ball of coffee. No idea how good the coffee is. I have a second had nespresso and only use about 2 pods a week on average (I mainly have it for guests). I think this doesn't add negatively to my environmental balance, as I don't have children, drive a car or fly. But I 100% agree for people who drink loads of coffee, the pods might not make sense environmentally and financially.

I am a fashion influencer , I don’t link products anymore and don’t create haul videos anymore. It’s too underwhelming and doesn’t align with the person I am . I have decluttered my things from time to time and donated to charity, friends and family, I still have amazing collection but those are things I would reach out to and wear them and fits my lifestyle. As an Indian it’s impossible to be minimalistic because I love handlooms and bespoke clothing. So now it’s quality over quantity

I've swapped out buying shampoo and conditioner liquid in bottles to now using shampoo and conditioner soap I've returned to old fashioned hand soap and am gradually using up the bottles of liquid hand soap I already had and when I do I will either just have a small amount for guests or just have the soap - I now prefer the soap = I found some good soap dishes that are like little drainers that contain the water that is easy to tip out and keeps your sink looking good It is so satisfying when you make a good swap out - great clip - I've used rags or cloths instead of paper towels though will use your recommendation for that and instead of microfibre towels when I can as I have just learned that they are harmful to the environment as they have microplastics

Wow. 3 and 4 hit hard. Dealing with the same thing and when I wouldnt accomplish what I set out to do I would get super frustrated. Just recently started "accepting" my season and now I am much calmer and able to think clearly. My time to push for my goals will come but for now I must accept my roles now and focus on them. P.S. SUBBED!!!!

Well done on recognising how your lifestyle no longer matched your values and taking action to make positive changes. I've been decluttering recently and it really helps me to feel clearer headed about my life. I find some fashion vloggers helpful when they put outfits together but some of them are quite bossy and prescriptive, I prefer the more creative stylists who put second hand outfits together and 'shop their closets.'

As a woman now in her 20’s I finally concluded that this is not how I want to live my life. Everything I posted, I wanted the strangers online to like them too but if they didn’t then I’d delete the post. I no longer care what’s going viral or what people say or think about me. As a result a few days ago, I permanently deleted my accounts. Loved this video ❤

I think that the root of the problem is trying to keep up with trends that are here today gone tomorrow AND getting that look thru fast fashion i.e. cheaply made. I really curate carefully what I bring in and I love thrifting good quality classic things that are in great shape. Instead of all the decluttering I periodically go thru my weardrobe and curate pieces for the coming season. If something is worn or I really never see myself wearing it again I get rid of it. Everything else gets packed away and stored. Many time when I go thru the stored items when that season comes around I choose entirely different things than I did the prior year. Finding personal authentic style is really the key and curating carefully what comes in ensures there is a great new rotation of new looks for many years. In other words don't try so hard to follow the crowd.

I use cotton shop towels cut into 6 inch squares, after use I throw them in my washing machine so they get cleaned with the next wash. they last forever. Room spray I have used orange flower water (edible - it is used in drinks) mixed with cheap vodka.

Stiff straws such as glass or stainless steel are dangerous. Someone smacks your head from behind or an accidental hit to your head and the straw can go through to your brain. Not worth the risk.

The hypothetical or whether it has not been worn in the last year does not always depend on whether the garment is worth keeping or not. In some of my clothes at least, (while they matched then with other clothes, which I don't have now, eg: because they have worn out) clothes with matching color now, can't be found to make combos, because fashion industry, releases shades that don't go with older clothes. So, I keep them in the closet, hoping that I find a new piece that I can match it and worn it again.
