    is that ticking sound at idle bad? Mine does that too

  • @messengermotorworks6639
    @messengermotorworks6639 Жыл бұрын

    Generally, Saab B engines shouldn't tick. The hydraulic lifters will start ticking if oil pressure is too low; which happens if oil gets too low, or worse, the pump cannot keep pressure high enough due to a sump clog or bearings worn past spec. A lifter can collapse, causing a tick, but it is difficult to figure out which one of the 16 it is. The chain can also tick/rattle if guides are worn or chain has stretched beyond tensioner extension.

  • @messengermotorworks6639
    @messengermotorworks66392 жыл бұрын

    Hi! For the record, the issue with the weakness under load was simply the converter being clogged. The watch is a Vaer piece from their first line of watches released several years ago; it's nothing too special, honestly. Vaer is a micro brand making watches in LA. They've come a long way and I've purchased a couple of their newer automatics. Thanks! You're right, I probably shouldn't have had it on.

  • @nab5018

    @@messengermotorworks6639 hi , could you please elaborate on what you mean when you say converter was clogged. Which converter? I am asking because my car has an intermittent lack of power under load. Cassette was changed recently, plugs, fuel pump, turbo. And the problem remains. It's actually today with my Saab specialist who will be trying to figure out what it is. I was thinking about O2 sensor or mass air flow, or injectors.

  • @messengermotorworks6639
    @messengermotorworks6639 Жыл бұрын

    Hey. The catalytic converter right after the turbo, in the downpipe. They get clogged by sediment, and can react to unburnt fuel overtime causing the guts to swell, making it gradually worse over time. Once the clogging gets bad enough, it will significantly restrict exhaust flow and not allow the engine to breath and produce power. It can start as an intermittent problem and get worse over time.

  • @messengermotorworks6639

    Hi! If the o-ring is loose, you'll want to replace it because it could shift during install and that will guarantee a leak.. If it is still tight enough that it'll stay in place when reinstalling, you might be okay since it'll get compressed during installation.

    @@BagheeraTube I own 2 9-5s, and look after another 2 for my father and sister. My main driver has 233,000 km on it, or about 145k miles. In that time I have done the following: 1 hg to cure an oil leak, 1 turbo, 1 serpentine belt and pulley, 1 vac hose, 1 thermostat, shifter jalousie. In over a decade it has never once let me down or failed to start - even when I blew the turbo on the motorway, I coasted home. On the other cars, I have changed a boost valve, O2 sensor, idler pulley, shifter jalousies, di cassette and one needed a throttle body prior to us owning it. Everything else like cabin filters, air filters, brakes etc. can happen to any car. The blower has become weak on one hence I'm looking at these videos, but I'll sort it out. They take some getting used to, but once you figure out their 'logic' it becomes second nature. I certainly would not call them bad cars, especially when you come across some of the nonsense from Volvo, Merc etc. Why did it take you a year to get it running? What was the issue?

  • @BagheeraTube
    @BagheeraTube9 ай бұрын

    @@lukemallory7832 the issue was mostly time and energy, I didn't like giving up on the car but I had other things to prioritize. I am sure there are good Saabs but mine was terrible, probably lived a rough life before I got it. It was 1999 and one of the early aero models with the big engine, I read about it on forums and didn't want to deal with all of that. My vents was also not working properly. I really liked the suspension and the smooth ride, those few rides it was working it was great.
