BugOutVehicles Gary

BugOutVehicles Gary

Survival on wheels in a strange new world.

I started living the "Van Life" in 1984. I posted my first video of me living in a van on KZread video back in January 2010. I regrettably removed all of those videos. I did not think it was a topic anyone was interested in at the time. Obviously I was wrong and living in a van became one of the most popular searched videos.

Many people have reached out to me and have said that my van videos were some of the first videos on KZread and inspired them to live the van life.

I have owned many Rv's, vans and motorcycles which I will post here if anyone is interested. I will explain my philosophy behind each vehicle and how I use it. Some vehicles I still own and others I have sold to make room for more off-grid vehicles.

Loved the video, I also have the same model V-Strom and make videos using a 360 camera, so much fun, I'll be 70 year old in a couple of months and God willing plan on riding a few more years, the V-Strom is the perfect bike for someone like me, we also have a Honda Goldwing that my wife comes riding on with me, we love it but its getting a bit heavy to handle now I'm a bit older, eventually we will move it on, but the V-Strom will be a stayer. Stay Safe happy days

I've owned numerous motorcycles in my life with 62yrs riding. The V Strom is one of if not the best motorcycle I've ever owned. One my 3rd one, 2004, 2007 and 2012.

Great video Gary! On my third Wee-strom, an 04, 17' and now a 2023 xt. The last of the great 'do it all' bikes with simple tech was the Honda XRV750 which stopped in 2003. In 2004 Suzuki took over the mantle and has achieved a similar cult following as the 750 Africa Twin. Twenty years later it's still in production. Nuff said. Roll on the next 20 years. Again, great video Gary, I am 61 next month and feel and agree with your comments 1000%.

The edelbrock carburetor is simple to install and operate. I run the newer version AVS . The electric choke is better to have . I used to daily drive the older edelbrock 650 electric choke carburetors . Never had a problem.

Great to see you in a van again Gary. I remember your Chevy van years ago. Just bought my third Gvan since that time. I guess it's been 10 years ago? Time flies. Pathfinder vans are very cool. They went out of business in '91/92 and a man named Gordon that worked in the industry bought up their inventory and he provided parts and service until about 2014.

I have just bought today my V-Strom 650 XT and I share the same feeling about riding a motorcycle without so many electronics … I like the concept “less is more” for motorcycles 😁 as I ride motorcycles for 38 years and I am still a young 50 year-old buddy 😜

As a old saying, you oil your chain before you go to sleep. And of course, a proper- bit sticky chain oil needs to be used. You live you learn, be safe.

I just picked up a 2015 V-strom dl650a a few days ago, no bags or engine gaurds, paid $3975, and has 9900 miles. Guess I got lucky, especially since it looks practically brand new.

The v-strom is a wonderful bike. Im looking to upgrade to 1000 and l searching and contemplating for months (A.T. , ktm 1090; tiger 900, tenere or supertenere). But the truth is that im still loving the 1050 xt vibe.

You're never too old to ride your VStrom. Probably the most forgiving bike on the planet, as you know. At least you know your traction control works nicely. My XT Adventure is sitting in the foyer. Been there for over a month. Idaho sucks for riding. Too cold and icy in the winter and too hot and buggy in the summer. Been here 40 years and ready to move somewhere I can ride all year long. Just bought a new Harley 117ci and still would keep the DL if it came down to it. Safe riding.

  • @BugOutVehicles

I agree the V-Strom is a very forgiving motorcycle and the riding position is also a nice neutral position which makes long distance touring very comfortable. Also the wee strom is super reliable which is one of the main reasons why I own one. I have a friend who just moved to Idaho. I thought the riding in the summer would be great but your comment makes me think twice. Your new Harley sounds great! Stay safe out there.
