    Why would you use a banana for scale? Bananas come in different sizes.... Why not use something with a static size like a cigarette lighter?

    Your killing me the cutting power is close to the fulcrum not the tips your going to spring them !!!!!! Copper not fabric please😂😂😂😂❤

  • @happylittletools
    @happylittletoolsАй бұрын

    Haha, yah I know. But sometimes you come into situations where you can't get the wire or whatever you're cutting into the fulcrum and need to use to the tip. So it is nice to show people what it can do! On the note of copper vs fabric, I have a rule with scissors: if the scissors are for fabric, they are ONLY for fabric. Otherwise, they are for anything and everything! Fun little anecdote: on a few forums, I have read that some EMTs love the Klein scissors for cutting through seatbelts and webbing in emergency situations more than their special EMT scissors. While I am not sure if that's true or not, what I can say is I've already cut through some webbing with these and it was butter!

    Great info. I didn't know these were rebranded scissors. But in tools, with so many old great patents available for companies, and how often they rebrand things, I am not surprised! Also, I have carpal tunnel, as well, recently injured a nerve in my right hand. So being able to grip these in different ways is a HUGE help!

    Great idea! I haven't got my hands on it yet! So definitely proceed at your own risk as you could melt the plastic. But if they used a good heat resistant plastic, which with the amount of R&D they put into their screwdriver, they likely have, this mod could likely work real well! @LinusTechTips you should send me one of your screwdrivers for review! haha

    I watched this video because im considering buying one. So I appreciate your analysis. In the very beginning, you almost complained about it being too small. But the smallness is just what makes it a good pocket-friendly tool, which is what I want. That's the only part of this video that I might disagree with. One question i might ask sog is, why didn't you include at least one flat blade screwdriver?? Better that than some of those other useless tools you talked about. Thanks for the review.

  • @happylittletools
    @happylittletoolsАй бұрын

    The smallness is definitely an advantage this thing has. Maybe I edited the video wrong as I did not mean to give off the impression that I would complain about the small size of this tool. I think in the instance you are referring to, i was merely stating that this tool is very small as a fact. It has small flat blade screwdriver which is great for glasses, or small things. But I agree, there are some useless tools on this, and could have easily had a nice beefy flat head screwdriver!

    Anyone know how these hold up to malco? The Klein suck because the magnet always falls out. I've been using malco but decided to try this one. Hilmor makes a good one too

  • @happylittletools
    @happylittletoolsАй бұрын

    I'm not sure about the Malco, and I barely use these, as my Klein have been holding up really well for me. I believe that there was a design change with the Klein recently where they use a retaining clip for the magnet now. But I really dislike that Klein doesn't sell their them as individual parts and forces you to buy a whole new set in order to replace one lost socket, or a lost/broken shaft.

    Although you said the kukri blade was impractical could it possibly have an advantage when cutting material like cardboard? I usually angle my hand and blade but that looks like I could just drag the tip to slice efficiently?

  • @happylittletools
    @happylittletoolsАй бұрын

    I'm not a knife expert. But the reason i find this impractical that for every application I have, I don't see how this is better than the stock knife other than "it looks cool". It is also harder to sharpen once it goes dull. But the area where it goes from straight to curve will theoretically slice better due to its shape. But personally, most of the time I'm using the tip of the blade or I'm using the serrated blade for big cuts that involve the whole knife blade.

    Would Leatherman have made their replacement blades in the neverslip style there would be less material, unless the head would have been made thicker. The loss of material would come due to cutting away the part where the blade is screwd against and the drilling of the hole for the screw. I think the bigger factor is clearance, as with the neverslip style the screw is in no position to get pressed against what is being cut, with larger workpieces, but the leatherman market theirs as a wirecutter so no big clearance is needed.

    I think it's just as likely the designers of twingrips, vampliers, etc. have never even heard of these very niche antique pliers. I don't think anyone copied anyone. It's an idea that you can come to from seeing how people actually USE pliers in the real world without copying anyone.

  • @happylittletools
    @happylittletools2 ай бұрын

    That very well could be the case. You also gotta remember that while these niche antique pliers may be niche to us now, they are not niche. Gas & Burner pliers were used by many trades. There are so many different companies that made them and you can find them very easily at garage sales and antique tool shows throughout North America and the UK. Also a copy of the utica pliers that are in this video are still made today by some companies! Finally, it isn't bad to copy. Originally before patents were invented, everyone copied. Copyright/patents were invented to allow inventors to be able to be the sole profitors of their inventions for a few years. As it was understood that copying is a very important aspect to innovation. Unfortunately lobbyists got legislation put into place that made these patents take way way too long to expire. While i think it is completely plausible for someone to come up with the idea without having seen it (as we see from history, just about every major invention had two or three others in different places also working on nearpy identical projects), i think that these companies definitely have a team of people who look through expired tool patents and antique tools hoping to rediscover something they can profit off of! But again i should Reiterate, copying a feature and innovating on it is not inherently bad and is necessary for innovation.

  • @Goodoo4U
    @Goodoo4U2 ай бұрын

    What a stupid take. The innovation with the twingrip is that you have ~2x the leverage of the old style tool, as the pivot point is much more foreward, while you can still grab the same stock!

  • @happylittletools
    @happylittletools2 ай бұрын

    I think this is a pretty fresh take. No one else seems to be talking about the relationship between Screw Removal Pliers and old Gas & Burner Pliers. I was pretty clearly just referring to all screw removal pliers and just the screw removal function. But for the fun of being childish on the internet, I will hit you with a: "Nah uh! You're take on my take being a stupid take is the stupid take. So there!"

    I can see it being very useful for when we put up "kabelstegar" basically metal things that look like ladders but hold cables, they use 10mm, 13mm and 15mm nuts that are all easily accesible to mount to ceilings, extensions etc. When you're on a huge ladder or up in a skylift it's nice having less stuff on your belt PS: I do use knipex ones right now though ;)

  • @AToolWithTools
    @AToolWithTools2 ай бұрын

    The PliersWrench has its own clearance issues but much larger range, and the Wera self-setters require a whole (expensive) set to cover the same range as a single classic adjustable, and are just a copy of a really old design anyway that shouldn't cost as much as they do.

  • @happylittletools
    @happylittletools2 ай бұрын

    Not many people take time to learn about old tools. So it is often forgotten that the Wera Self-Setters (i think you're referring to the jokers?) are a new take on an old wrench. The thing Wera did differently with the Jokers, is that they installed a spring in a new spot that made the original old wrench design they are based off of, much more useable. I find that most of the useful new tool designs now days, (likely by necessity) are new takes, or straight up copies of old, long forgotten tools.

This is kinda making me rethink this as I watched you use the Hazet. 3. While that is a rad tool I think there are too many failure points for professional use. 4. Your final thoughts are spot on! • @happylittletools

    1. Considering belts are used for so much and the belt feels robust, i don't think thata the issue. 2. Haha i think for medium duty work, the Hazet is fantastic! 3. The biggest failure point is all the plastic internals. Definitely not something worth buying. And i only bought it for the fun gimmick of it and not for use. 4. As more and more people realize this, i hope there is a resurgence in fixers and tinkerers. 5. Thank you so much!!!

    One should be aware of the differences in bit depth for any tool using a bit and chuck. The Japanese bit standard will often not “lock” into a European or American bit driver.

  • @happylittletools
    @happylittletools3 ай бұрын

    That's a great point! I use Makita Drivers, so I haven't had an issue. I also might point out that a lot of bit drivers use magnetic retainment only, which japanese bits are great at. My Hazet 810 uses magnetic and multiple ball detents, and japanese bits retain great in them. But certainly there are many north american made drivers that Japanese style power bits will not work in. I should have pointed that out!
