The Rest Is Politics

The Rest Is Politics

Two men who’ve been at the heart of the political world - former Downing Street Director of Communications and Strategy Alastair Campbell and cabinet minister Rory Stewart - join forces from across the political divide.

The Rest Is Politics lifts the lid on the secrets of Westminster, offering an insider’s view on politics at home and abroad, while bringing back the lost art of disagreeing agreeably.

ITV should be ashamed of the pitiful format of the debate: Julie Etchingham was terrible and encouraged an adversarial soundbite format that gave the audience no political insight whatsoever. ITV should not be given the first debate ever again.

Why didn’t KS answer the accusation at the time of the debate instead of going away to come up with something, he was lost for words because he knew it was true. Also, if his claim that the NHS was broken why was he, a very rich person, insisting that he wouldn’t go private for himself or his family, he’s a liar, it just proves the NHS isn’t broken or he’s stupid.

Notice how when lumping Corbyn and Johnson into the same bucket, Stewart is very specific on Johnson’s sins but very vague on Corbyn’s. I wonder why…

As a head-teacher, I have been running a 4 Term Year in my schools since 1982. 8 x 5 week half-terms, without a ridiculous 6/7 week summer holiday that is a agricultural-era hangover, and is to no-one`s benefit...a 4TY is unquestionably better for learning and less stressful for teachers

I like this podcast and Farage is way over promising and certainly does have the answers but: "BS for britain" - Wow, people in glass houses! Bit rich coming from captain spin "pack of lies" - LOL What! Coming from someone who was in gov when a gigantic lie was told that resulted in countless deaths! This is a problem with politics, United Kingdom of amnesia.

Let's be honest.. Sunak smashed Starmer for 6 in that debate... Seen full repeat and it's clear Starmer has no plan. Just a whole bunch of negative chimes that are strangely based on a previous prime minister???

  • @chrisdrakes2332

It blows my mind that Starmer is toning down his policies and rhetoric yet getting held to a ridiculous standard while Sunak can blatantly lie and act like a clown, at the head of a party marred by scandal yet people seemingly give him a pass.

100% agree the format was terrible and just encouraged a childish scrap instead of an intelligent debate over the direction we need to go in.

As an Australian taxi driver, this is my first exposure to the Northern lady, Angela Rayner. She is incredibly impressive and so looking forward how she performs in the next government in the UK. What an amazing story…I wish we could clone her for Australia. She did remind me a little of a Coro Street Jacinda Ardern.

Re: school holidays - Schools are not childcare. Children need their free time, and I don't think the solution to 'parents can 't get time to look after their kids' is 'keep them in school longer'. Maybe we should address the underlying issue which is that mortgages and cost of living expects both parents to have well-paid jobs and no time to drop their kids off, spend time with them in the afternoon and weekends and holidays.

If the costing is done by civil servants then isn't it the tax payer who is paying for this research just to make a political jab at Labour? Civil Servants shouldn't be used that way pay for your own research out of your campaign money not the populations tax money. Same to labour as they done it before this is a bit unethical and just gives who is in governement an unfair advantage.

Starmer did NOT get the chance to rebut the £2,000 lie. (Repeated) every time he tried the stupid woman cut him off! And also Sunak interrupted constantly and shouted all the time.

PM won the first outing, Starmer repeated the 14 years too much - Sunak has only been there for 2. On young people Starmer seemed to have no plan at all. Starmer was moaning on too much and lacked a clear strategy.

Israel cannot absorb the Palestinians - they would be a natality bomb. They cannot allow an independent Palestinian state as long as the rulers of that state are sworn to the destruction of Israel and the Jews. The only way forward is "one-and-a-half states" with Palestinian areas having gradually increasing autonomy for internal affairs, until - ten or twenty years down the road - independence is envisageable.

Gaza is indeed a jail... and Hamas are the jailors. As long as Hamas declares its intent to destroy Israel and kill the Jews, Israel can certainly not open the enclave's borders.
