Anthony Scaramucci & Katty Kay on Trump's Hush Money Trial & Campus Protests Against War In Gaza

Anthony Scaramucci ('The Mooch') recalls working for Senator Mitt Romney. He and journalist Katty Kay weigh in on Donald Trump's 'hush money' trial involving Stormy Daniels. Donald Trump is also without his Wife, Melania, and his daughter, Ivanka in court. How might this be affecting his campaign efforts and overall morale?
Protests against the Israel-Gaza conflict have materialised on multiple college campuses, with student groups setting up encampments and calling for boycotts, but are these campuses really as liberal as they might appear?
Katty Kay and Anthony Scaramucci discuss this, and more, in the very first episode of The Rest Is Politics US.

I don't know who came up with this idea and these people, but it is BRILLIANT! Love Katty Kay and Anthony Scaramucci. The best thing about Scaramuccie it that he is willing to admit when he is wrong but also gives his opinion about why he is wrong and what he could have done differently.

Great start to the new series guys. I was really pleased to hear in the week that this was happening. As a Brit with a big interest in our politics and US politics, I was excited to see this mix. Anthony has been a favourite of mine since his WH career ended and I realised he was smart, funny, endearing and determined. He was wasted on Trump. And partnering Anthony with Katty is perfect. The beautiful music of the 2 accents was lovely. Tony has a great NY accent. And after the praise for the individuals and the idea of the show, the subjects and the way they were discussed was excellent and informative. The Rest is Politics is my favourite UK pod cast. I'm very pleased it's gone International.

My favorite was when Mooch said: "Michigan." Which is a gambler's way of saying "who do you bet will win Michigan?" At which point Katty gave a very measured response about what will happen if either candidate were to win or lose Michigan at which point Mooch responded: "Ooookay I guess I'll take a stab at it."

LOVE the British version-I’m a Texan & appreciate the opportunity to learn about the world from the viewpoints of Alastair, Rory, & guests! Looking forward to more analysis & opinion from the US version! Katty & Anthony, you have some big shoes to fill regarding the quality of the Brit version, good luck! BTW, I completely agree with Anthony’s comment about this country having done better when our presidents had some military experience. I was in the very last US draft & didn’t serve, but I grew up as a military brat- my dad was a B52 pilot & spent 3 of my 4 years of high school involved with the Vietnam war. That upbringing allowed me to live in 12 states & 4 NATO countries, so I have a much different world view than my neighbors. Very intriguing observation, Anthony!

When was the last time we saw the horror of what's happening in Gaza being deliberately executed by a democracy? Aid to innocents blocked, anything and everything being bombed like it doesn't matter, targeting of aid workers. And then when you protest, they say you are anti-Semitic. I'm flabbergasted that Katty feels something beyond that awful laundry list is needed to explain this.

Agree. Totally ignored that there were Jewish students and holocaust survivor involved in campus protests. Totally ignored that the core tent protestors were peaceful and inclusive, and to not separate these peaceful protesters from outsiders who had bad intentions showed either lazy journalism or deliberate bias. Also, to link students personal grievances with US society as a reason for sympathy with the oppressed in Gaza was so patronising, not to mention totally ignoring the atrocities being committed in Gaza. The tone of condemnation by Katy showed a lack of journalistic rigor and independence.

Pretend to be balanced and objective but then so easily frame the situation on American campuses as centring around Antisemitism and the safety of Jewish students, without ANY discussion of the history of the political ideology of Zionism and the clear and important difference between antizionism and antisemitism. The conversation is already compromised.

I am a great fan of the original UK podcast with Alistair Campbell and Rory Stuart and I find this US version with Katty and Anthony extremely engaging too... in almost equal measure! How refreshing it is to watch complicit and intelligent debate in which respect is shown towards differences of attitudes and opinions. Through this, we enjoy meaningful arguments in which there is respect for reality and truth within 'free speech'; and where political and social expressions are based on solid information and genuine analysis. A show that provides both stimulation and enrichment of mind and soul... how almost strange and forgotten... bring it on!

Katy lost me when she gave a very distorted assessment of college campuses. She ignored that many of the organisers were Jewish students, the core protests were peaceful and inclusive and diverse. To not seperate out bad actors from outside who were not part of these peaceful protestors, shows an extreme bias or lazy journalism. To also link the tent city protestors caring about Palestinians because young people also feel oppressed by US society was pathetic and patronising. Heaven forbid that young people, including Jewish students should have empathy for innocent people who are suffering from horrific atrocities. Her whole tone was of condemnation. If she is not able to give a balanced, well researched and factual report on such important events as a US reporter then this podcast is a waste of time Having Scaramucci & Kay on to give an in-depth commentary on USA has lowered the Rest is Politics high standards

It is genuinely very, very interesting hearing a person with as much experience covering American politics as Katty Kay be so out of touch with how young people feel that she thinks that these protests have some ulterior motive other than to stop the systematic murder of Palestinian men, women and children by Israel. Ironically, this episode does provide an interesting snapshot of the state of politics in the USA. Not through any particular insight of the hosts, but rather their lack of understanding that for young people this issue is incredibly black and white, and they feel sufficiently outraged by it to stand up and make their voices heard. Towards the end of the episode Katty says “have you noticed we haven’t talked about Gaza yet?”. Don’t worry, I noticed. I couldn’t believe it. It was baffling. Having lived through decades of US support for Israeli ethnic cleansing of Palestine seems to have broken your moral compass so much that the only logical answer when you see young people protesting is to think, ‘I wonder what this is really about? Gay rights? BLM?’ I’m looking forward to whatever insights we’re going to hear next. Maybe the civil rights movement was actually a rebellion against rock music? Maybe the miners strikes were a statement on climate change? Maybe the American revolution was actually routed in fear of AI automating jobs?

What a great Podcast! As an additional comment I think Anthony makes a great point about the discipline and leadership demonstrated by current politicians. I think the inability to work toward a shared “bigger picture” for the good of our global society is or will become a problem across the globe. The prior D-Day generation knew what world war meant and the need to reach mutual understanding for the benefit of all and the need to work together.
