A vlog for handspinners, knitters and the wool curious. All about handspinning yarn, knitting, wool processing and farm life with Kim Biegler, owner of Ewethful Fiber Farm and Mill. I own a wool mill where I process animal fibers into products for hand spinners. I share how to tips and life inside owning a wool mill, making yarn, spinning yarn and owning a fiber flock of animals.
I also have online classes that teach you how to spin yarn by hand. I educate about wool and try to share some of the knowledge I have gained and how to apply to your crafts and yarn making. And of course include trips to see the animals as well as current projects I am working inside the wool mill and on my knitting needles.

Are the dark spots ones that would not come out?
Hi, Kim! So nice to see you! I would love to donate some handspun yarn to your update for that cause. Please let me know and I can put it in the mail to you.
Holy I love this!!!! I'll email you this weekend. Thank you!
What a lovely, tidy farm! Such happy looking animals. 🤍
Tidy-ish! Those are very kind words indeed. Thank you for watching!
All the farm animals! All the woolly goodness! Enjoy getting to see what you've been up to - hope that the farm life slows down a little soon =)
Miss you!!! I forget every year hour much work it is, lol.
Ooo your Zinnias! We just can’t seem to grow them here in the west of Ireland. Dahlias do well for me, though. And, grass!! We do great grass growing over here too LOL. Don’t think there are any grass seed farms here tho’? Just grass eating livestock 😂. The grass on our cottage acre is super tall & in seed because we leave most of it as meadow to be cut in September. Thankfully no cucumber beetles here 😅
So nice to hear from you! So interesting about Zinnias. I love Dahlias!!!
💛💚💜🖤 Hello Kim, hello from France, Hope you're well. I was carding while watching your video and it was nice to see the animals, sun 's shining, smily faces. Here the weather is just awful, grey, rain, grey and just a bit of sun. Well such is life. Anyway, it was nice to hear your voice and I really like that white and dark grey fleece . It's always interesting to watch animals been sheared. Thank you for sharing. Speak to you soon.💗💙❤🧡
So lovely to hear from you!!! I'm glad you could enjoy some sunshine in this episode. Hopefully sunshine is coming your way!
from Gerry- Funny. I live across the river from Harrisburg PA! I enjoy watching you work in the mill. God bless.
Just a sorry to across the country, lol. Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoy the vlog!
Thank you so much for your review on the espinners. I completely agree with the challenges that came up. I will need to practice more on my espinnner. But I felt that for the thread I wanted to create, I went back to my drop spindle with stone whorl. With the stone whorl, I am able to strength test it as I'm making my thread. I can make fine thread on my espinner, but I agree that the uptake felt really slow, and I just got a bunch of overspun pig tails in my bobbin. I'm a beginner spinner, so when a problem happens, I had to frequently have to stop, fix, unwind, and figure out what happened until when the next issue would pop up. I'm learning a new tool, and I understand that. So it'll come with time. I'll just have to save for my dream spinning wheel, and spindle spin in the meantime.
Wish there were never music on these videos. ❤️ the soft sound of treadles and wheel clacking. It's an understated beautiful sound.
You: "You'll get bored watching me clean this carder." Me: "Please make a full length ASMR video of this" 😆
Lolol, I'll do it!
I bought Daedalus Sparrow 2 years on a whim at Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival . Love it
It's a lovely e-spinner!!!
Wow!
The whos finally had enough of the grinch
Definitely! Practice. Lovely to actually see how you progressed. Thank you,
Your cotton handspun turned out so good! I love seeing it knit up. Thankyou for the progress keeper shout out! 😍
Thank you and of course!!!
Can I send you fur to card? I have lots but hand carding it is a pain
I got the 3rd batch in fiber club and ADORE it! They're all stunning, but the color I received is just, "me". Thanks Kim!
Oh yay Sylvia! I really loved that color and I was so surprised how it turned out. So glad you like it!!!
The fibre club wool looked so fun! 😃
Susan!!! I miss you! Hope you are doing well. We just had a fiber club Zoom meet up and they all loved it!!!
I just got some of Sally Fox's naturally colored cotton yarn and am excited to start working with it. The colors are gorgeous. Been too scared to try spinning the fiber so far because I had a meh experience trying to spin some a few years ago 😅
Jaime! So excited you got some yarn from Sally. Spinning cotton is definitely not super easy. I'm happy to hand card a couple punis for you. I think it made learning a bit easier, and I have tons of cotton! Do you spin longdraw already? That also makes it easier. Fastest twist you can get on your wheel with the absolute lightest take up!
@@ewethfulfiber omg Kim that's so generous of you. I do have blending board so I should probably have tried making rolags instead of from top 🤣. I've done a little bit of supported long draw, but true woolen spinning is something I need to work on.
@Wee_LadybugKnits you really have to spin cotton long draw because the staple length is so short. And using hand cards to make cotton punis is the ideal. Cotton top is incredibly hard to start with so don't be too hard on yourself. Supported longdraw will work just fine, but no short forward!
@@ewethfulfiber thank you for the tips! (and apologies for the slow response 😳) I think I'll hold off on attempting cotton again until I've gotten more longdraw practice. Save myself some frustration 🤣
I've just got my first drop spindle and learning to spin. Such an incredible skill to learn. Being trying to learn consistency with my yarn.
Welcome!!! Such a wonderful craft! When you are first starting focus on getting comfortable drafting. The consistency will get better and better with practice. Have so much fun. Is a wheel in your future?
@@ewethfulfiber Yes
💖💚❤🧡 Hello Kim, hello from France Hope you're well. 🐑🌺🍀 Outdoor activities, when the weather is agreable, are great. Go for it. 🍉 I've been so busy and now things are getting to places and I can sit and enjoy watching your videos again. Audio podcast is such a good idea and I can listen in my car while eating cherries . Really cool. 🍒 I found interesting your test with the scotch tension. And the saturation of color. Make you think the possibilities with one wheel. 🍓 Thank you for sharing. Take care. 💛💙💜🖤
Oh my gosh it's so nice to hear from you! I noticed you absence for awhile now. Glad you are back and I certainly understand being busy! Glad you enjoyed the audiocast, I like doing those a lot and that's my favorite time to listen to them. And yes, one wheel, so many options!!!
What this is?
A wool carding machine
I’m a barefoot spinner too! I spin like I am in a race though. I need to slow down
Lol. Walking pace is the goal as when you daze out, you will default to your walking pace! Are you a newer spinner?
My problem is my spinning, even after four years is not as consistent as commercial yarn so the gauge is usually off or the end where they need to be sewn together or not aligned, but I know if I want to gift it. I just need to make a cow or a scarf or a hat.
Love the shawl!❤ Totally understand the slowing down efforts! Life is hectic enough before even considering social media 😅 I actually found a used wheel to start my spinning wheel journey (no idea of maker, sadly, so will be difficult to get more bobbins 😝) it had been stored away for ages, possibly never actually used, (I’m guessing it’s from ca 1980 but that’s total guesswork since owner had no idea either) so metal parts needed some TLC to get the uptake to be smooth(er) but I have learnt and understood SO much in just the 5 days I’ve had it!❤ Decided that I will def need another newer wheel too 😬😬😬 😂 Looking forward to your next vlog!❤ Anita
Anita this is so exciting!!! Spinning is the best. Have fun and feel free to reach out for help!
Nama alatnya apa ya?
Your handspun yarn is very beautiful 😍
Does this method work for synthetic fiber?
You make it look easy.
Beautiful 👍👍❤️❤️
Does it have a patent
Hi Kim, great podcast. Was working a wool festival last weekend with a friend. She has shetland sheep and wanted to sell her washed fleeces. I was spinning with my Hansen electric spinner and we had so much fun. Very tired after that! We learned a lot being rookies. See you next time
Thanks Pat! Sounds like you had a great time. Nice friend you are to help out, working festivals is exhausting!
It is so good to see you again. I really do hope to get back to learning to spin, but the knitting, weaving, and sewing are taking all the time I have. Hopefully I’ll get the baby blankets all off the loom soon and fit spinning in. So glad your class is always available for me when I can get to it. Happy making!
Linda! You'll get to your wheel when the time is right!
I've missed you, Kim! But wow, I'm so glad you finished the wrap! It is GORGEOUS. And now it's finished ✅️ I can stop asking about it 😂
Lolol. You were obviously on my mind while I was gone! It is lovely, thank you! Onward to next project you can help me keep tabs on. 😉
Thank you for coming back for a visit. I appreciate the mill videos. The Target looks so lovely.
Absolutely! Thank you for watching!
Happy Memorial Day weekend, Kim! Congrats on really finishing that shawl =). That Targhee fiber felt like a cloud - hope all the spinners are loving it. Great parting shot, too - the sheep and the roses!
Enjoy your weekend!!!
Your dive into spindle spinning inspired me to break out of my usual wheel spin! Thanks 😊
Oh wonderful!!! What are you spinning on?
Shawl 👏👏👏👏
Lol right!!!
Your efforts with the Targhee were well worth it! It spins up really beautifully! 🎉
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it. I really love it too. Phew! Also love that I'm done with it!
I love how targhee light targhee is, how it takes dye, and the bounce. It's so fun!
It is such a lovely wool. I can be a little scrooge about fine wools at times but it is such a lovely spin and finished yarn!
Beautiful colors and shape of that shawl !
Thank you Nancy!
please, let me know how to purchase
🌟Whats the name of the washimg anf fryimg equipmeny used in processimg your wool? Also, could you recommend any books that helped inyour learning process? Thanks so much!🌟
Is there any reason you couldn't use the wheel unstained?
You could. I used my Kiwi like that for years before I finally stained it. But the stain did help to protect it from old and dirty which will seep in. You could do a clear type pull on it to just to protect the wood.
Cuddlebug 😄😄😄!
Cuddlebug! Aptly named =). My rigid heddle loom is a Kromsky, and I partly chose that brand because the wood and workmanship was beautiful. I'm sure the same is true of that wheel!
Cuddle bug is so sweet. The alpaca wasn’t having it yet it stayed and spit!😂. Your blue fiber is beautiful. I can see how that didn’t last in the shop
He's also trouble, lol! Yes she's out oldest alpaca and for some reason as of late he's been very attached to her... whether she likes it or not.
Thanks for the interesting farm story. Love that ending! And all of your beautiful fiber, of course! I’m so grateful to be a part of your fiber club!
Thanks Holly! Grateful for you!!!
ahhh. lovely for my very weird busy day...❤
Weird busy day sounds daunting. Hope I can add a little sunshine? Cuddlebug probably made it weird. Lolol.
@@ewethfulfiber i love cuddle bug. and sitting still watching about things i love is relaxing for me...
