Obviously they couldn't keep Dimitri's backstory the same with the approach in the musical but idk a crowd of thousands just doesn't do it for me. I feel like if maybe there was a line or two in there that Dimitri worked at the palace (like he did in the movie) and Anastasia had been the only one to treat him like a normal kid and that's why he fell for her at the parade, then I'd feel like it'd be a lot better.

i disagree. their relationship was developed way better in the movie. their whole relationship foundation in the broadway felt so mediocre because they took out the kitchen boy plot of dimitri saving her as a child. i felt that heroic act was way more significant and climatic than him just bowing to her at a parade. felt very underwhelming. however, the music for that song was beautiful though.

I did an Anastasia production once, and one of the key inside jokes was Black Marketeer #1 saying “A ruble for this painting, it’s Romanov! I swear!” Because the person who voiced it put in a lot of emotion but sadly wasn’t there for the first show

I love that line 😂 I was doing the scene before Countess and the common man for a project with my friend, (I was Vlad) and one time I forgot the line 'hot blooded, passionate, sensual' and instead said something like 'passionate, hot-blooded, married' cause I couldn't think of the third thing 😂

Hartford was cute and I love all the references, but it was just too chaotic. It was a smart idea to give the three leads new costumes and streamline it for Broadway.

Okay I'm sorry but it's kind of in poor taste to bring back the moment where Dimitry makes the offhand comment about bowing because the first connection my brain made is that Anya remembered what he said in In A Crowd of Thousands 😭 I know I'm probably reading too much into this but it does make it a little harder to go along with the belief that Anya is Anastasia.
