I actually think I prefer the more quieter, subdued ending of the Hartford production, especially with how Anya joins in with a couple of alternating lines to join together with him at the last line, emphasizing the similarities between her and Dmitry. It also makes Dmitry's character development from a withdrawn conman to a selfless person who has learned how to love hit harder during the second act, as In a Crowd of Thousands, the ballet scene, and Everything to Win is when he can finally let loose and sing his emotions more confidently. In the Hartford production, he belts for a bit, but then he reels back and quiets himself when he realizes that he's being limited by his past. Heck, the original version of My Petersberg is even echoed in the Broadway version of Everything to Win, when Dmitry trails off saying "the only thing I lose is..." before he can finish the song with "you". I think this is meant to reference when Dmitry and Anya sing "and me and you" together to finish the Hartford My Petersberg to emphasize how the pair come together as they are forced to reflect upon and overcome their pasts, but with this ending cut and replaced with a more grand finale that just repeats the song's title some of the meaning and emotion is lost, at least in my opinion. Also, Anya having more singing in the Hartford My Petersberg better demonstrates how she is affected by Dmitry confiding in her. The Broadway production definitely gave Derek Klena more of a chance to show off, which is fine, but I don't necessarily think it's for the better considering how Dmitry's arc and his romance with Anya are developed.

I like the broadway version of the song better because of the lyrics are more put together.

Thank you for this comparison! I definitely prefer the Hartford version more.. Was quite disappointed in the change but still love both nevertheless. Glad to see Anastasia is getting the recognition it deserves!

They do sound kind of similar! Dmitry is played by Derek Klena, JD is Ryan McCartan. There's a video of Ryan McCartan singing My Petersburg, also.
