Spirit'ed Wrenchers

Spirit'ed Wrenchers

Welcome to Spirit'ed Wrenchers. Art & Dana here. We're glad you stopped by to follow along on our journey and share some of our passions with us. We discovered on a number of occasions that we just couldn't find content on what we wanted to see, especially with a couple wrenching together so here we are.

Our name gives a clue to a couple of our passions which include wrenching on our 5 cars (1970 Ford Mustang Coupe, 1972 Chevy C10, 2012 Toyota 4 Runner Trail, 2016 Subaru WRX & 2022 Hyundai Sante Fe Caligraphy Edition), and our love for spirits or liquor as many others know it. * Sorry, no spirit conjuring on this channel*.

Our weekly videos will include everything from simple maintenance, small to large upgrades, restomod work, gear reviews, as well as an episode of a highlighted spirit that we'll share the history & tasting of.

Sound like a journey you'd like to be a part of? Hit SUBSCRIBE & the bell plus share your feedback in the comments! We look forward to meeting you

    Why does your new cabin air filter say MOBIS instead of Hyndai/Kia like your original one? Are you sure your dealership sold you an original part? Also? What is the normal interval for replacement? I have a 2023 and recently went in for oil change with 8500 miles. I told them not to replace or even check the air filters because I wasn’t going to change them yet. Since then, I’ve noticed a mostly smell coming from the air vents. I also noticed finger print (grease marks) by my glove box when I picked up the car- that tells me they did indeed at least check the filters when I told them not to). I suspect they stole my original filters and replaced them with older filters. I’m watching this video to learn how to check them myself. I’m so mad that the dealerships are so corrupt and no one can be trusted. They steal from their own loyal customers.

    Why do you want to stay within the OEM weight limit? What are the risks of carrying 200 lbs of lumber for example?

  • @SpiritedWrenchers
    @SpiritedWrenchersКүн бұрын

    Hi Jay, thanks for watching! The primary reason we want to stay within the weight limit is to prevent any failures of the crossbars themselves, but also to prevent any damages to the mount points on the roof rails. You may not notice any issues going slightly over, but your mileage may vary there. For us, we will use the trailer if we need to move heavier items and keep to the weight limit on the crossbars. Hope this helps; take care and stay safe!

    Hi Bill. Thanks for watching and sharing the kind words. We appreciate it. We didn't do the bulbs for those as we felt they were sufficient with the lenses that we have. I say that but last week I was looking at the reverse lights and felt that I will likely upgrade those next. They could be a better white. I'll work on getting the bulbs for them soon. Stay tuned. Fantastic video! Confused why manufacturers don't just use a spin on filter. Seems ridiculous to need a "kit" to change oil. My new Sante Fe is getting changed this week at 500 miles. Again at 3000 then we can follow the manufacturer interval.

    Ok, you almost lost me when you said you can always trust your local dealer. I put car dealers and politicians at #1 when it comes to people you cannot trust. When I took my daughters car in for the first free oil change which is a Sonata, the breaks were making a squealing sound, 7500 miles. They told me the brakes were glazed over and I needed new brakes. What a joke. The sound went away on its own. After getting the three free oil changes, I proceeded to do my own to discover they broke the air filter cover. Nice of them to let me know. Can't blame the mechanic in a way because I know they would take it out of his or her pay. I have seen videos by dealers' mechanics on how bad they are paid and treated. Later the car was rear ended, the body shop called and said that when they had to remove the rear bumper the blind spot sensors needed to be disconnected so they asked me if I could take it to the dealer and have it reprogrammed. I agreed and then the trouble starts again. They said that does not cause the sensors to need to be reprogrammed. Then they called and said yes that was all that was needed. Then they called back again and said no the sensors were bad. $3500 each sensor. Then they called back again and said no that was not it, the wiring was bad, another $3000. Then they called back and said the body shop did not get the body straight, they had a couple of thousands to work with, so I needed to take it back to the body shop to fix it right. When I get there to pick it up, I ask for old parts back, the lady called out to the service advisor hey insurance company's do not ask for old parts back do they? Of course, he replied was no they sure don't. That was when I asked to speak to a manager. I ask him why they called me four times to tell me it was a different problem. Little did he know I had already researched it on you tube and it is a fairly simple process. He picked up a business card holder and proceeded to portend it was a blind spot sensor and explain to me how they work. That conversation did not go well. After taking it back to the body shop, they called me and said it was fixed and wished they had called so I could come see when they had it apart. They said I was lucky the bumper did not fall off because they had only put 1 bolt and 1 clip back in. They said 1 sensor was loose, so they added another screw to keep it tight. Said the sensors were very dirty, so I can see why they said insurance company's do not ask for old parts back. Then they said they would have to take the car to them because they did want not me back there again. The lady said when she asked how much to reprogram the sensors because she had to write a check and send a helper, they said they would do her a favor and do it for $600. With favors like that who needs friends. Now I only communicate with dealers through text. I want a record of the conversation. That has since worked out well for me. If they refuse to communicate by text, I find another dealer. Have bought 2 more and both times I had to pull out my phone and show them the text. They ended up agreeing to what we agreed to in the text. I live in a state where you have to have second party consent to record, so when we text, I have consent.

    Hello, and while I hit the like button on your comment, we certainly do not like that this has happened to you! This is definitely a warranty issue on the part of Hyundai! While we expect every new vehicle to roll off the factory floor in perfect condition, that doesn't always happen. This is why every single make and model of new car, SUV, and truck comes with a factory warranty. Sometimes the part delivered to the factory is bad, and sometimes the factory installation is bad. We hope that your dealership is able to make it right and fast!!! Take care and stay safe!

    What about AWD kia Sorento's? Any components that would need replacing or lubricants?

  • @SpiritedWrenchers
    @SpiritedWrenchers4 күн бұрын

    Hi DaddyBeetle, Happy Father's Day! Any AWD vehicle will have additional components beyond that which you can find in a standard FWD or RWD vehicle, such as both a front and rear differential. Without the owner's manual to reference the specific maintenance schedule, we wouldn't be of much help to suggest which of these services you can perform yourself at home and which are better left to the hands of a seasoned shop technician/mechanic. Hope this helps; take care and stay safe!

    Hold on. All 2.5 Turbo Hyundai engines are dual injection. They have fuel injectors on the ports and direct injection. Since they already have a way to wash carbon deposits off the valves are you just going for the gold on this?

  • @SpiritedWrenchers
    @SpiritedWrenchers4 күн бұрын

    Hi Robert, thanks for making this note and watching. You are correct that this is a combination engine and while we are told that deposits shouldn't be a problem, provided that we are always using top tier gasoline and in lieu of that always using fuel additives per the owner's manual. Not all owners are fully aware of the differences between brands of gasoline, nor of the suggestion to use fuel additives when top tier is unavailable. Many will use the cheapest available and it's my guess that after many miles, build-up will occur. We ourselves don't always use the additives suggested, and we feel the occasional top-tier or additive use isn't going to back-clean the valves as good as an intake cleaner system such as this. Personally, I'd rather spend the time and money performing this service at home, even if for superstition to keep us out of the dealership service area later in the engine life (I guess that is going for gold, then?). Hope this helps offer some explanation; take care and stay safe!

    Meguiar's works great. Meguiar's M4016 Mirror Glaze Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner, Restores Life and Color. Any heavy scuffs or scratches will still appear but your black rubber floor mats will be clean and have a dark appearance when laid back on the car floor. To surprise people, have 2 sets of floor mats, one for everyday use and a new set for showroom appearance. The biggest problem is the use of power tools and using hard bristle brushes. Using a pressure washer will damage your rubber mats too. Rinse mats with a garden hose, spray Simple Green, use a medium bristle brush and scrub easy, rinse, some times need to repeat the cleaning process, let dry, spay Meguiar's M4016 Mirror Glaze Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner, Restores Life and Color and use a microfiber towel to rub and work it in. All done, rubber floor mats look great. Do not purchase Adams or Chemical Guys mat cleaners since they are poor performers. 303 Aerospace Protectant is good but lacks in durability meaning in a few days mats are dirty afterall 303 is waterbased and protection fades quickly. McKee's 37 is overpriced for mediocre results.

    We bought brass groumetts(eye lets) and added them to the bottom of the curtains as we get a lot of windy days. We then pulled string through them to to secure to our deck railings via Velcro straps so easy to remove Question, is it safer to have the curtains closed and zipped during very high wind storms (not tornado high) or open them up and tie them to the gazebo posts to let the wind pass through. We are in Ontario and sometimes .at most we get a wind storm of 100km. My dad says it’s safer to let the wind pass through so opening the curtains and tying them to the posts. What says you?

    Hi J Joy. Thank you for watching and sharing with the community. We greatly appreciate it. As a Dad myself, I have to say yours has a good head on his shoulders. We recommend you follow his advice. It's exactly what we would, and have done. 🙂. Cheers!

    Hi Benjamin. Thank you for watching and sharing. We really appreciate it. Yes, I loved my fi subs. Was introduced to them by a close friend of mine that is no longer with us. Wish he and those subs were still around.
