    In fact throttle position sensor is a potentiometer.The best option would be to open it up and clean it inside,if this is possible of course.Or else try to open it up by cutting along the seam between two sides of its cover.

    use "Electronics cleaner" if you have it. and then add some lubricant/oil. but WD40 or CRC or gun oil would be a "one stop sollution" for this? just spray till you get enough liquid so that it will flow out and take some dirt with it. and thank you for your kind words.

  • @Volvo5Cylinder
    @Volvo5Cylinder7 ай бұрын

    I do say you should add back some sort of oil to protect it. After cleaning. And if you use cleaning spray for electronic.. Or CRC of WD40 , these usually contain some oil as well. So no, not making it worse, as this sensor is just 2 sliding potentiometer tracks.

    so i'm literally getting no ohm reading whatsoever when testing any of the three prongs on my TPS (1991 volvo 240) onyl see "OL" on the multimeter - any idea what's going on? this is a bosch TPS - thank you. EDIT: i see - the reason is because the TPS on a volvo 240 is NOT a potentiometer - it's literally a black casing with two independent "switches" inside it - one makes contact when the accelerator is not depressed whatsoever (idle) and the other makes contact at WOT (wide open throttle) - there is no resistance to measure except for when each of those are closed circuits - everything inbetween is going to read OL

    I agree you probably shouldn't use brake cleaner but if you are in a pinch, gotta go with what you got. For all the experts commenting on here about cleaning the TPS why in the hell did you click on this video if you are experts??? 🤦‍♂ I do question weather the cleaning fluid actually gets into it. I watched a video with a guy taking it apart and cleaning the contacts inside, not sure this method really would do a whole lot. I just cleaned mine so we'll see if it did anything or I gotta get a new one. I used electronic parts cleaner for anyone interested. I'm sure some KZread expert geniuses from behind their keyboards, never actually doing any vehicle repairs, will tell me that's wrong lol.

  • @Volvo5Cylinder
    @Volvo5Cylinder Жыл бұрын

    I suppose this method I use if more a way of clearing the contacts by moving the gunk out to the edges and sides. So it more or less does not remove dirt unless it will flow out with the excess cleaning fluid making it dirty. But it works if the testing methods in the video are to be believed. :)

    I just bought a new air mass meter when I was looking for an uneven idle. And at the same time I repaired the tear in the charging hose. But the pressures only rose from 0.2 bar to 1.1 bar after about 100 km of driving. From that I concluded that the control unit of such an old engine apparently adapts and learns? Oon suomesta myös jos vaan suomen kieli sujuu sinulta. Your throttle body video gave me the idea that it would be good for me to measure the values of the throttle sensor when looking for a problem with uneven idle. Edit: When I listened to your video further, you mentioned the thing I just asked, it takes about 100km to learn a new from the ecu.And I can confirm this point with my own experience. Great channel, I subscribed to your channel. You make important valuable videos.

  • @Volvo5Cylinder
    @Volvo5Cylinder2 жыл бұрын

    If you have an 850R manual with white injectors, stick to them, they flow more or less identically to the blue ones as they are rated at different pressures.. But if it is an automatic got with a ecu tune to start, your injectors currently will go up to 280hp. And that is quite plenty for that gearbox :) The throttle body upgrade is as i see it a downgrade and offers no real benefit other than losses in driveability. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lI5spZasdZzLZJc.html

  • @Volvo5Cylinder

    @@edwinthomas618 the intake will not benefit you in any way. It is more or less the same as the turbo one. if you use a new style "straight" intake manifold you will get more top power and would be nice for an manual that you like to rew alot :) , but the one you have is the better for low and mid torque and it makes the car nicer to drive.

    Question. I have a 96 850R and I have the oil history of the car. The car has 200,000 miles on it with great compression and runs great. They used conventional oil 10W40 oil which I carry on the tradition. Ive heard to use synthetic oil but ive heard that if a car that changes to synthetic oil when using conventional oil it will may or potentially cause oil leaks around seals...is this true? I did that to an old 1982 Datsun 310 and the engine clunked out on me thereafter

  • @Volvo5Cylinder
    @Volvo5Cylinder2 жыл бұрын

    if you switch to a synthetic blend or do any major oil type switch ,the cleaning agents in the new oil will clean the old gunk away left from the previous oil. So you might get an oil leak. This is how it happens. How ewer, having clogged up oil keeping your engine from now leaking is not a long term strategy. You will get the same effect from running an oil cleaner before changing your oil. I would recommend you "ease into" synthetic oils. make your own 50/50 blend. And use that and then move into fully synthetic. This will allow you a complete oil change to monitor if you think you can go synthetic. bear in mind that your engine have 20+year old seals, and they might be at their end of life already without any oil modifications.

  • @Volvo5Cylinder
    @Volvo5Cylinder2 жыл бұрын

    Technically you do not need a retune. the engine management of the 850 can adjust for a lot of variation before giving any codes. So you will feel it and get benefit by just fitting the cams. Just Zero the cams as you would stock cams to get move the powerband up the rews :)
