With just the first 3 original movies I had started to wonder about the Jedi and the Sith. Later when they showed the Jedi benefiting from slavery - being able to take children as they wished from slaves. It seemed the Jedi had no desire to end slavery - it benefited them. They also seemed more to be the ones benefitting from the Republic and that corrupt form of government. The Jedi claiming that emotion is bad - well that would also mean love, joy, hope - all emotions. The dark side would be both good as well as supposed evil, and the Jedi most certainly do not represent good. It was the Jedi that attacked and attempted to destroy the Dark siders, which of course caused them to later seek revenge (or self defense,) against the Jedi. I'm not saying the Empire wasn't without fault, they were....but the Republic was worse. Under the Republic slavery was not only allowed, but promoted (which the Jedi benefited from.) Under the Republic, all the small systems had little if any power. 100 separate species in 100 different planets might be given 1 representative total in the senate. While richer systems were given several representatives in the senate for just one planet. Not exactly fair. It was a mistake to murder the children the Jedi had. They could have been saved from the Jedi brain washing. So that was a major error. By the time of the First Order, both sides were desperate and fantastical in their own ways.

Palpatine literally orchestrated a plan to overthrow the Republic (which as corrupt as it is, it’s still a democratic system), he refused to relinquish his emergency powers even after the war was over (hence the creation of the Empire), he dissolved the senate and placed himself as an authoritarian leader literally the Emperor. So if you believe a dictatorship is better than a corrupt democratic government than you could make the argument that the empire was “right.” But most of these claims aren’t true and also NOTHING justifies Anankin killing those kids.

I can tell you were born after the original trilogy was complete and grew up in the 90s. You don't seem to undersatnd the geopolitics was commenting on, or his stance. You're drawing parallels to the The U.S., antebellum South, and The Empire. Those are appropriate parallels, but Lucas' template was Vietnam, and Latin American rebellions in which The U.S. was indeed the Empire, and Lucas believed the rebels to be in the right. So, I guess, the Empire was right if you assume the U.S. was right, but Lucas did not.

Star Wars presents a very limited view of life under the Empire in the films. There really is no clear indication that a law-abiding citizen in the Empire is oppressed or has there opinions stifled. However we know under the Republic, at the very least, there are legal and illegal religions. The Jedi are a literal thought police in The Republic.

Cause there are alot of real goverments that i think reflect the empire in real life oppression. And yeah of course if your law abiding no one is going to mess with you they want your loyalty and obedience above all so that argument is faulty in disproving oppression. Oh and mostly if you were of human decent. There was a big disfavor towards those who were not human. No law abiding wookie was treated very well by empire- slavery?

But it only works as political satire because the backstory of what makes The Empire bad and oppressive is more-or-less implied or said from a very biased source, The Rebels. Not that I endorse the destruction of planets, even Tarkin blowing up alderaan, at the time was a response to the violent enemies of his organization just getting access to the most powerful weapon of mass destruction that one can imagine. The films aren't exactly good storytelling, which kinda makes them fun but leaves a lot of room for interpretation of things.

Many do not know that Jedis took children from their parents, if their child possessed high midi-chlorian levels. At times, this was done against the parent's will, so there were many who hated the Jedi. I mean, if Mace Windu comes to your house to take your newborn child from you, are you gonna get up in his grill and tell him 'No'?! You could, but Windu might do one of 3 things: 1. There were families aboard those Death Stars. Never forget. Never forgive. These fanatic and short sighted rebels have no interest in stability. They are just war mongering profiteers happy to profit off of destabilizing a freely elected government. They have no plan to fill this power vacuum and are happy to sit by as crime organizations fill the gap. Their childish idealism and violent actions make them the villains of this story, not the heroes.

Atleast the First Order actually protect their people, not like the New Republic who does nothing about Imperial remnants that are clearly causing troubles and doesn't even do anything to planets that has succumbed to pirates and bounty hunters. (Just like Nevarro when it was first shown in The Mandalorian)

To be FAIR, almost ALL of the governments in Star Wars suck, and the only reason people don't hate on Jedi is because they don't do traffic stops. I imagine for the average citizen the Empire is about as despotic as current day Western Societies. Remember, Luke was planning to join the Imperial Academy. Until the ATF shows up at your door over arbitrary "rules" they've made up over how a trigger functions, most people aren't REALLY dealing with a bunch of Government evil. Sith aren't telling you you can't open a taco stand because the town limits food in the mall to sandwiches so 5 years later a Judge is ruling that tacos are just Mexican sandwiches.

I was 11 when Star Wars came out. As I got older and learned about the world, I began to realize that the Empire never really did anything wrong, and the Rebels were all mercenaries and smugglers.
