Nice set up! I built a similar slim line pocade box. For those looking to stabilise the tripod due to wind, look at a 'stone bag'. It velcro's around the tripod legs and you fill it with rocks to help stabilise your set up and it wraps up nice and light. When you're done, dump the rocks!

I have blick material canvas pads and fredrix canvas pad. One blick material canvas pad is 12x16 and one that's 16x20 and the fredrix one is 12x16. I wanted to bring the one of the 12x16 and the 16x20. My carry on is small but big but I wanted to carry the 16x20 but wont fit. It was for oil painting while going to see my family in Canada. If I use 2 or one canvas pad that's 12x16 what do I do if I bring back finished artwork that's not streached /framed saftly 0:16

The tacking iron is just for tacking the corner of a piece to hold it and the glue sheet in place when it goes into the press - this keeps from accidently getting creases. Most pieces that go into the dry mount press are larger than the press (thus the sides being open) and you usually have to rotate a piece around at least once. For a very large piece, you might need to rotation it several times to get the whole piece dry mounted.

Thank you sharing your process. I wonder how heat will impact the oil paint. 🤔
@jamescowgill40395 күн бұрын
Low heat shouldn't impact the oil, although the press will crack a think impasto surface. I have had high heat "burn out" some colors (in college I experimented with baking an oil painting to see if I could speed up drying.)

I stumbled on this video and had to comment which you'll probably take as disgruntled troll criticism but it's not meant to be. Your work is very good but lacks significant drama/impact. It needs more power. More light. More dramatic impact and more luminosity. Those linen panels suck up paint. Subject matter and compositions are overall kind of dull and the paintings lack transitions of hue, temperature changes and luminosity especially in sky areas which appear quite flat, but this may be due to video. Maybe try Chruch's method of wood panels for your studies and looking at his methods and plein air work which to him were serious field studies of value, temperature changes and detail coupled with abstract designs. Hope you sold them all and Good luck.

Is there a resource for a full list of official, legal rules for master copies?
@matthewcondon19859 күн бұрын
Is it legal to paint a master copy at the original size but crop in on a small section? I've been wanting to do a master copy of a Thomas Cole landscape. I was only wanting to crop in and copy one of the trees in for foreground...I was planing on painting it full size.

Question: If you paint on paper, do you have to use glass when framing?

Keep in mind that Sargent had been drawing/painting since childhood so it's not just the time he spent with brush to canvas for this particular painting but all those years of experience with the tools and techniques that worked for him!
@ClintEastwooodPS318 күн бұрын
Sargent had alot of patience. Not many have this confidence to wait until the end of the painting to work out the important stuff. Even experienced painters tend to do it too early. Imagine, you work maybe days just doing the basics, you literally cant see the outcome at the end, just a bunch of paint clutted together, but you are confident to get it perfectly right at the end. Its the mind game he was the best in.
