Went up earlier this year after the wettest 18 months on record. Rather than just being wet and slimy it was a proper torrent running through. Nasty! Glad to see you had a bit of difficulty with it and made the choice to bypass sections. It’s an important part of scrambling on the mountains to make those decisions, especially when you’re solo. Probably best gully scramble I’ve done.

This just goes to show that carrying the right equipment and extra layers etc can be the difference between life and death. Too many people do not show the mountains enough respect. I'm a hugely experienced walker but having been in Eryri in some of the worst conditions it still makes me think how things could go so wrong so quickly, just like it did to these guys. The MRT are the heroes of our mountain community and deserve far more praise and funding than they get. Next time you're out in the mountains and the villages amongst them, if you see an MRT fundraising bottle, drop in a few pounds, it all helps.

Dave, I think you did brilliantly, way better than I or most of your armchair critics would have done. Well done, and thanks for the update. BTW, whilst Ed's initial slip will have been due to his shoes losing grip, the reason he kept sliding was because he was wrapped in slippery waterproofs, and because grass, even dry grass, can be very slippery. Thats not the escape route from Crib Goch! There is a pass between Crib Goch and Crib a Dysgl. The escape route follows a narrow path that goes diagonally to the left above the Combe and joins the PYG further up. It follows the contour of the slope to you reach safer ground - definitely dont descend perpendicular to the contours in those conditions!
@BraveDaveАй бұрын
The route you're describing would have led us right into the storm clouds that we wanted to avoid, and was about a mile long in the wrong direction. The route we took was directly down to the PYG, about 200 meters. Obviously, this meant it was steep, but 99 out of 100 times we'd have descended it without issue. Unfortunately this was the 1 in 100 where someone slipped in just the wrong place and didn't stop.
