The Wet 'n' Wild Cairngorms (2021)

A group of us head up to Scotland for a long weekend of multi-night camping in the Cairngorms. The weather was... a mixed bag, but ultimately there was rain. A lot of rain.
Still, we had a day and night of great weather and saw some superb views, so it was well worth it. You can't beat a clear Autumnal day in Scotland!
I also wanted to say that the four of us have all been double-jabbed and we all took lateral flow Covid tests before meeting up. When we were in the bothy, packed in with 12 other people in a very closed and humid environment, we semi-joked about it being a super-spreader event. Hopefully no one else had, or caught, Covid because there weren't many other options for getting out of the wet and the cold...

    @@khemikora I don't believe that, as long as you stay relatively fit and strong it should not be a problem and he's got the following for it. I'm 44 and if I can lose some weight I'll try it myself. It can't be that hard to climb on a slow moving train and hide out! Its more about not getting caught. Lets not forget stobe from Canada was drunk half the time. He did die though, but that was when he was not on the train, but got stuck on a bridge with one, #1 rule if you know if you're in a tight spot, take ruck sack off and stay as small and as far away from the track as possible, better still, just learn from STAND BY ME.

    Looking at the date you were there - I was on day 7 of 8 days cycling and had gotten utterly drenched for the 3rd day in a row! - I was south of you around the Glenrothes/St Andrews/Dundee/Perth way so it was the same storms that hit you! I'd never gotten so wet cycling with so little chance of drying my cycling clothes/shoes. What fun! Though when it finally did stop raining, the views in Scotland do make up for the soggy bits!

  • @BraveDave

    @BraveDave

    Wow, good effort, Terry! 8 days of cycling through Scotland is hardcore even when it's not in torrential rain. It sucks when everything is soaked and they can't be dried. Waking up in a wet tent and then having to put on wet clothes and boots when it's so cold is definitely "character building" :P

    They may be over for good. Mountain guiding is Dave's breadwinner, I wager, and while he _is_ in shape, he's no spring chick anymore. I have to wonder how many milimeters dropped that day to flood and wash out Scotland of all places. It's a very rainy country with the drainage systems to match! But ey, you lot had an extra adventure, had some good beer, dinner and breakfast, and came back home with a story to tell. So all's good, right? Except for the camera. RIP 🪦📷🪦 It guts me when I lose even a Bic pen or disposable face mask, let alone an expensive electronic widget.
