Cichlid Charmer

Cichlid Charmer

Welcome to the Cichlid Charmer! African and American Cichlids are my favorite fish in the freshwater aquarium hobby. They are so beautiful and they have such great personalities! Keeping cichlids alive, healthy and happy can sometimes be a real challenge, and it is my goal to share with you the knowledge I have gained over time. I also like having some fun with the videos sometimes, with different characters and voices. I aim to keep the aquarium hobby fun for everyone! I also make videos on general aquarium topics, such as aquarium maintenance, aquarium equipment, and general aquarium tips and tricks. Thank you for stopping by! If you like what you see, please consider subscribing to the channel.

    Great! You did it.But the 180 blocking the window is a bummer. Idea 💡, you could move it to either side wall..but you'd need to put at least 1 4x4 from below to support the floor. I know it's in front of the window because the floor joints go that way.

  • @CichlidCharmer
    @CichlidCharmer3 сағат бұрын

    You’re exactly right. I thought of adding support along the other outside wall, but I think to be completely sure doing that you’d want it done professionally with proper footings. I don’t know, I mean I might try that someday.

    Very awesome you got some help from family, neighbor and of course Stella, Molly and Higgins, I can only imagine how stressful that must have been yikes. I was lucky I had 2-3 beefy sons help move my bigger tanks (125gal, 2-65 and 2-55) by a hand truck and muscle, now days it's me and myself with a hand truck and blankies. I bet the next day you were hurting, that looked brutal, OK because I'm a nerd movie buff "The man with two brains" got ta love Steve Martin. Thank you for this info next tank move I'll try those dolly moving things and gasp!

    Yeah it worked out great. I was wondering the same thing, and then I thought of using a pole or beam through the stand itself. There was no backing on the stand, so right through the door to the other side it went. Really easy.

    @@CambridgeAquaticsso that should be more than enough, but two 150s and a controller 🔥. That way you have a back up of one fails to turn on, and if one wants to stay on all the time, the controller will prevent it from doing so. A controller should also extend the life of your heaters.

    Hi CC! I also started my first male only Mbuna 75g tank approximately six months ago. I currently have 12 Mbuna ranging from 4.5 inches to 5.5 inches. The aggression has been real but manageable once I isolated the lone demonsi “emphasis on Demon & sigh”. I’ve been told a good overstock is around 22 Mbuna. I’m curious as to what your thoughts are that number and also also your thoughts on repeating a species type? Love the channel!

  • @CichlidCharmer
    @CichlidCharmer3 күн бұрын

    Hey that’s cool! I have heard about that guy - funny about the “demon” and “si.” 😂 So I am not an overstocker. I like to have a fewer amount than most while still having a good blend that get along fairly well. Refining when I get a really bad seed. If you have 12 and they’re getting along pretty well, I would leave it in a 75. That’s just me. Lots of hiding places for sure too. I would be too afraid to repeat a species.

    If fighting starts i rearrange the ENTIRE tank. Everything. And do a partial water change. I don't know exactly why but they just go back to regular behavior after that.. has worked every time so far. But the key is that the whole tank has to look completely foreign to them you can't halfway do it.

    I have a 150 gallon American cichlid tank, Philippine Angels, Red Spotted Severums, Geophagus Tapajos, Electric Blue Acaras and a mixed origin clean up crew in a planted tank. The Severum chew some plants more than others, it is a learning process but doable. Am waiting for my 3 Electric Blue Jack Dempseys, the idea being later keeping one strong male to pair up with a regular female. Have done that before with good results, they are amazing fish, my favorites so far. On my wish list is a Central American cichlid Cryptoheros Spilirum, sometimes named other Latin first names but always ending with either Spilirum or Spilirus. On the smaller size, but beautiful semi aggressive fish that do well in a community setup I am told. Am moving up to a 190 gallon tank in a few days, it gives much more options and I really should have done that size right away.
