    Happy to see all your tanks once. I am equally excited to see your new American Cichlid tank. My suggestions for the new tank are the Oscars, Severum, and Electric Blue Acara. They have very good colors and personalities. For the filtration check out Sump from the Custom Aquarium, I heard it does a very good job from the KZreadrs in the States. BTW, for the Apistogramma tank if you are not prepared to keep them, try having Guppies, Indeed those are not cichlids but they are easy to maintain and your tank size should be perfect for a few pairs and you can enjoy them breeding or a betta to keep it real simple. All the best for your new project.

    All good ideas. I am either going more peaceful or more aggressive with the new tank. I can’t decide! So if I go with the former, those fish should be included as I’ve wanted all of them for a while now. My new tank will be from custom aquariums and it will have the seamless sump system to which you are referring. Learning to assemble a sump without destroying my home is 😬

    In Australia ai prime lights are really expensive about $400AUD each so I went for astra 20 saltwater for $80 each, much more affordable then ai primes. You will need the wifi adapter for each light also.They are a LED light with red blue green and red, can also be used with app on phone also. Don’t sweat on the colour down of your new fish additions to your African cichlids tank ,they will colour up once they settle in. I had same issue when I moved fish from a 50g to a 210g tank and added new smaller size fish. Great video mate .👍👍

    Cichlid Charmer, Wow what an update sir. Great video. For that rimless tank you can cut a lid that will fit over it out of plexiglass. That way the water won’t evaporate so much. The plants need some fertilizer are you dosing the planted tanks with a liquid fertilizer like API leaf zone? That will help keep them lush and green and grow in nicely. Seachem makes one to that works really well. Oh you finally jumping into my world of CA/SA cichlids congratulations brother. How big is the tank and what are you getting? I do have some news I had to rehome my red devil female in my CA tank. She was find when she was younger but she would lay eggs a lot and become a crazy psychopath and she was trying to kill all my Severums and chocolate cichlid. I couldn’t take it anymore and took her to the LFS as a turn in. I didn’t want to do it but she was causing so much aggression towards the other fish. My green severum has some battle wounds but CA cichlids are tough and he looks like he is going to recover. 😢😮. Sometimes it doesn’t work out. I thought with her being a female less aggressive but still Red Devils live up to there name. So I don’t recommend them in a tank with others unless it is a huge and long tank. Congrats let us know what you are getting for fish and tank size.

  • @CichlidCharmer

    @CichlidCharmer

    Thank you! So I was dosing with Leaf Zone, and they still just looked bad. Lots of brown. You know what I should do - start a small 10 gallon tank with just plants and try to keep them alive. That way I don’t lose interest in a fish tank once it starts to look like crap. I really hate neglected-looking tanks. I could cut out a plexiglass lid, but I think I’m over it 🥲. I mean it was a cool idea and I tried it, but I think it’s all lidded tanks from this point on. That red devil - whoa crazy mama! I haven’t experienced sa/ca aggression, so I can only imagine. There are some guys I would love to have solo in a tank like the black nasty, but my next plan has to happen first. As for the size of my tank I just ordered, it’s a secret for now 🫢and I’m still deciding between a calmer American tank and a more aggressive one. It’s a tough call!

Man do I ever understand about the plants, I keep replanting, trimming and cussing at them for mine always look cruddy, I hate the crusty white glue left on things from my failed attempt at making things look so pretty, oh well, I'm always learning by my mistakes......Thank you again and love all your videos!

I shuffled around some fish into diff. tanks and so far I think Mr. Demasoni is thinking twice about picking on the longer Killifish who have monster teeth, my fingers crossed. @@CichlidCharmer

    Plants: Don't give up. Plants only need 2 things. Light (intensity/duration) and nutrients. Easier said than done but you just need to figure out which your lacking and fill that need. Figuring out how to make the very basic plants you have thrive is going to be way easier than dealing with the super glue if you throw in the towel. Holding/recovery tank: I would leave it as simple as possible. That way the fish themselves are easier to observe. Way easier to spot any issues with them early on. Apisto tank: Despite it's appearance it is probably the healthiest tank you have. A sterile tank is not always "healthy". That's purely a Fish Tuber thing. If your serious about breeding and raising healthy fish algae (herd G just for you) and mulm are not the enemy. Evaporation: What a nightmare...right? Lids for the win. I have several rimless tanks. I bought glass from a local glass shop and rimless tank lid "clips" from Amazon. I will never go topless again....er what? Never mind. Tidal HOB: I agree as long as you are not keeping shrimp or tiny fry that swim all around the tank. That surface skimmer accounts for 80% of the flow no matter how you set the filter up. New tank: South and Central American cichlids are my passion. I am very excited to see you going that route. I hope you do a build series on building the stand and eventual set up. Your vide/audio is top quality and while we currently have very few aquatic preferences in common I really enjoy your videos.

    @CichlidCharmer

    Thank you so much for the detailed comment 🥰. You know the plants I have need little light and they are slow growing, not requiring much additional nutrients, so I have been messing with the light and adding Leaf Zone fertilizer weekly. But… so much brown. Ugh. Anyway, I know the Apisto tank is healthy, but I just hate the way it looks. The lid option is valid for sure, and I will probably just wind up adding a lid to it and changing the scape and occupants. I almost bought a lid and clips when I started the tank. Knowing that you have little in common with my fishy preferences makes your interest in the channel extremely valuable to me. I sure appreciate your input, your feed back and your time. We are all learning here, and it’s so fun to learn with people like you and many other dedicated viewers I’ve come to know from my KZread experience. What a blessing this venture has been for me!

    @ElJefe437

    @@CichlidCharmerYour lights look pretty bright in the video, it’s probably just a fertilizer issue. Leaf zone is very diluted and is just iron and potassium. It’s missing out on micronutrients, phosphates etc. you probably need something more concentrated for such a large tank with as many plants as you do. I have had good luck with Aquarium Co-OP’s Simple Green fertilizer, it is an all in one fertilizer. It sort of depends on your source water. Mine is soft and nutrient poor so the all in one solution works well. If you have phosphate from agriculture or lead pipe treatment it cause you to have algae problems. In that case you might look at Seachem fertilizers, they have each part separately so you can tailor it to what you may need. Also, I’m glad you didn’t get rid of Alcatraz. As someone with no time, money, or space for large tanks, channels like yours allow me to live vicariously through others.

    @@CichlidCharmer I loved the tank and fish. Think it looks nice and natural. Yeah was a bit of a moan wasn't it. 🤣I get it though.

    Yeah. It’s not that I’m too lazy to top it off. It’s just I have lost enough interest in the tank to want to. Tanks should not be burdensome. If it is you have to change something. Either your attitude or what you’re doing. This tank is a low priority for me and I have VERY limited time with two jobs AND making videos. So this tank is at the bottom of my list. Time to mix it up.
