WATCH THIS Before Starting Your First AQUARIUM

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Your new fish will DIE unless you start your first aquarium right. You'll get 5 EASY TIPS on what to do to get your tank set up correctly without killing your freshwater fish. This information is for regular aquariums as well as African cichlid tanks and American cichlid tanks.
Cichlid Charmer is dedicated to sharing the joy of keeping African cichlids and American cichlids and sharing information about them. Much of my content is not cichlid fish specific, however. It also pertains to all tropical fish aquariums. I will share what I have learned about cichlids and other fish, and everyone is welcomed to comment with their own experiences and information about fish and aquarium practices in general.

    It is really important to research your fish compatibility yourself. A year ago I went to PetSmart and they had a Haplochromis obliquidens in a tank with a smaller Kenyi mbuna cichlid. The poor obliquidens cichlid had almost all of his fins torn off. I told them that Victorian cichlids should not be kept with mbuna cichlids because they are not tough enough. They told me all African cichlids go into that tank so I decided to buy him to rescue him. And now after a year my obliquidens cichlid has black stripes and a yellow and red body and his fins are repaired. My point is that the people in the pet stores don’t really even know what they are doing so it is up to you to research.

    Another great video with a lot of wonderful info, cycle cycle cycle your new tank is so important or you'll get a bacteria bloom, ask me how I know (not with the new 45gal) yup had a nice white grow out on everything, learned the hard way but things worked out just fine whew! I'm starting a new 29gal so this info great thanks!

    CC, What a great video and such an easy process to start. I actually ran into someone at PetSmart buying new fish with the tank and starting brand new. They had everything to start with. I asked them if this was new to the hobby they said yes I actually gave them some tips and they bought the bacteria in a bottle to make sure their fish have a chance. Many big box stores don’t help out consumers unless they are fish keepers themselves. I always listen to them when they talk to customers to see if the advice is legit or they are just saying things.

    @@CichlidCharmer I know plenty of people who got into fish keeping and gave up after fish deaths and bad water quality, decided to give up instead of asking for help. The fish store mostly looks at making money from you even when the see you lack knowledge of species requirements are not compatible but if we had a video in those days it would be easier for newcomers to get proper advice . That’s were your videos would have kept more people in the hobby as more information equals more success 👍

    Great video and info. Always get the biggest tank you can afford. For anybody and anyone, they should start with a minimum 75 gallon off the start. What happens is they end up getting a 20-30 gallon and want to put peacock cichlids in it or even oscars!

    @CichlidCharmer well, i know the advantages and disadvantages of each, but real-world experience counts for a lot. I would say sump would be best, but I've never run one before. I also like glass, but the weight is a lot. A 180-gallon glass tank is around 350 pounds empty.

    i love your realism about death and your humour, and really good points... but eeek, the ableist language.... idk why when you are talking about cichlids you wouldn't say "aggressive" like everyone else in the hobby, but instead say "nut jobs" like it isn't 2024 and a huge section of the population have mental health issues. just something to consider. an alternative could be "creatures of chaos" or "feisty fish". it also seems counterproductive to describe cichlids' natural defensive/offensive behavior with words that are used to describe abnormal human behavior.

  • @CichlidCharmer

    @CichlidCharmer

    3 ай бұрын

    Oh thank you! So I understand what you’re saying. Just realize I don’t refer to people as nut jobs, and I am keeping most things light. I also refer to them as inmates in my “prison” Alcatraz, and I know some people will think “why are you referring to your tank as a prison? You imprison fish instead of taking care of them? It’s all on the humorous side, and you hear “nut jobs” in movies. My fish are actuallly nut jobs and I love them. It may be a term people use to describe other people, but I, in no way, am using the term to relate to people. I realize you may take offense to this, and I apologize if you do. Thank you for your comment!
