    Irrelevant title. This is not about riding a bicycle. This is more about mechanical maintenance of a bicycle. Take out first part of the title of video but keep the second part.

    Nice that you cleaned the pulleys like thst , you didn't show that you lubed the bushings with grease. I assume you did ...the grease is important though without it the upper guide pully will corrode and were out very quickly and make the shifting sloppy. Yhe grease you use would be perfect and hold up to all weather for a long time. Great to see a new video. Also a quick check of the the derailleur alignment and correction goes a long way for very little extra time. Lube the bushings on the derailleurs with something that penitrates is also a nice touch.

    I think new chain should be degreased with whatever manufacturers put on it to prevent rust, before putting it on the bike.

  • @stevengagnon4777
    @stevengagnon47772 күн бұрын

    My experience with a bike like this and that the owner will likely not lube the chain frequently enough is that the original packing rust protectant does a good job . I usually put a liquid wax product in the rollers and bushing for better lubrication. Yes the factory stuff is a bit heavy and somewhat tacky, but it does help keep the chain from rusting.out. It's a judgment call and knowing the client's habits. From the fact the whole drive train including the chain wheels were worn out ...I would conclude the owner of the bicycle didn't replace the chain until every thing was completely worn-out . Hopefully the client learned from this and will replace the chain in a sooner repair interval. I've found that if you replace the chain past 0.5% and before 0.75% and the client is using most of the gears. One can usually replace just the chain a few times then just the cassette, then the chain rings will last through a couple cycles of this. Shifting usually degrades as you approach 0.75% anyway it just degrades so slowly that one doesn't notice. I highly recommend the client gets a chain check guage ( the Park fixed go no go guage works fine ...the longer one is better since it has 0.5% and 0.75% ) in the long run this strategy works out well and is budget friendly due to the lower expense each time. Once the chain gets past 0.75% and is approaching 1.0 the ware on the cassette and chain rings will deteriorate exponentially.

    9:13 when you finally tighten it, what if it spins the axle and exterior nut together ? The inner nut would become loose from ball bearings. Does it work if I put thread lock on inner nuts and grease on outer nuts when tightening them ? 🤔

    Nie mogę zgodzić się ze stwierdzeniem, że suport odpowiada ze powolność roweru a pokazane prace przyspiesza rower. Wg mojej oceny pokazany suport nie generuje jakiś nadmiernych oporów; jeśli dodać, że suport jest w centrum osi obrotu korb to jego opory (tego suportu) są pomijalne. Dodatkowo od kilku lat zauważam tendencje do smarowania wszystkiego w rowerze co kiedyś smarowaniu nie podlegało a przynajmniej odbywało się choć rozsądnie. Dla przykładu proponuję aby kupić łożysko wielkości pokazanego w filmie. Pokręcić nim, następnie dokonać tych samych czynności co w filmie i ponownie pokręcić. Opór będzie wyczuwalnie większy bo fabrycznie w łożysku nie ma takich ilości smaru jak ogłada się w wielu filmach instruktarzowych. Układ jest prosty. Suche łożysko kręci się długo i bez większych oporów. To co stawia opór to uszczelnienie łożyska i smar. Jeśli rzucić kulkę na stole potoczy się, Jeśli posmarować stół smarem zatrzyma się. Jeśli smaru będzie bardzo dużo wpadnie tam gdzie rzucę. Uszczelnienie łożyska - dobre, jak najbardziej będzie generować opór - dobrze przylegające wargi to czystość i trwałość. Smar wyliczana jest przez fabrykę i dobierana w oparciu o kilka czynników. A na koniec dodam - każdy widział zniszczone bieżnie shimano. Nawet wysokich klas piast. Ale łożyska toczne wystarczy umyć i złożyć. Jakby jego bieżnie były nieśmiertelne i wieczne. Są już nawet filmy gdzie puryści rozbierają kółka przerzutki shimano ceramiaczne i tam nakładają smar jakby zapominając, że cena tych kółek wynika z faktu bardzo małych oporów ślizgu - użytych materiałów, które nie wymagają smaru, Uważam też, że twierdzenie "każdy szanujący się rowerzysta od czasu do czasu zadaje sobie to samo pytanie: "Dlaczego mój rower jest tak trudny w prowadzeniu?" to nieprawda. Nie zadaję sobie takich pytań co nie czyni mnie zupełnie nikim. Zresztą stwierdzenia moją to do siebie ze to forma zamknięta. NIe ma nic - tak jest jak jest stwierdzone. Otwartość na świat objawia się pytaniami. To szeroka i ciekawa perspektywa.

    een ander vraagje...zelf had ik al enige tijd een vervelende tik bij het ronddraaien, maar alleen tijdens krachtig aanzetten bergop... ik heb nu aan weerszijden van het derailleurpadje eens wat extra dunne WD40 gespoten en eindelijk was die tik weg.... Kan de derailleurpad 'tikken' tijdens het trappen? Ik heb die 2 kleine schroefjes al eens eerder vaster gedraaid, maar de tik was niet weg, na wat smering met die WD40 is de tik wel weg... Kan er speling op komen?...Ik fiets naar mijn werk zeker 6000 km per jaar...

    I've had to replace all four sets of bearing in my rear hub TWICE in the past 5,000 miles due to rain. What hub is good for riding in the rain? I'm riding a carbon hybrid on the road. Not a cheap bike. But the hubs won't keep the water out.

    Ich hatte keine Lust und habe auch nicht das handwerkliche Geschick, alles auseinander zu schrauben. Ich habe auf gut Glück am Tretlager und am Übergang von der Pedale zum Rad alles mit gewöhnlichem Sprühöl geölt. Ich hätte keinen Pfifferling darauf gesetzt, dass es was bringt, aber siehe da, nach vielleicht 10 Pedalumdrehungen beim Losradeln war das Knacken zu 100 % weg. Vermutlich pures Glück, dass das bei meinem Kreidler-Fahrrad funktioniert hat, aber man kann es ja mal versuchen! 😀

    One of the best videos on cup and cone bearing I have seen. Not very clear on how to start tightening it all back again? Also missing torque. Shimano manuals always specify the torque for cup and cone which if I remember right is between 15-20Nm and for the cassette it's 40Nm which is also stamped on the nut unlike the cup and cone nuts. Do you tighten on one side first, then adjust from the other side? do you have to have an equal amount of threads sticking out on both sides etc.?

    I've done something like this on my car's manual transmission gears where they chipped, rounded or were otherwise worn. I went easy and the car and trans are running fine. A rotary tool with the right bits is like a mini machine shop in a box. It has its limits but within these limits it's really useful.
