Affordaplane Adventures by Terry Adair

Welcome to Affordaplane Adventures by Terry Adair. I have always longed to build my own simple airplane to enjoy flying with minimal expense, regulation, and the freedom to modify. I chose the Affordaplane for its simplicity and pay as you go build. Making my first part then the next, before I knew it, I had a working and flying ultralight airplane. The Affordaplane is unique and it introduces builder's to aviation’s best practices without over complicating the process. Once complete, you'll have an entire aircraft built completely by your own two hands. My love of flying and perseverance has made my dream a reality. Sharing the adventure has connected me to other enthusiast, and led me to create the affordaplanestore.com, it is amazing how many builders have reached out and support not only the channel but the store as well. The goal is to give every builder a place to find the hardware and accessories needed and encourage those that have a similar dream to go for it.

    James, are you making it for a heavier pilot. I am heavier and have always like this plane. I am a pilot with 600 hrs and several different ultralight airplanes with several hrs on them as well.

    ThesevRotac engines and gear boxs are not reliable after 300 hours which is the TBO and need to pull apart and change bbearing every 300bhours andba completebover haul and maybe every 5byeats which ever come first . I know a few guys hate these rotax engines

    I will keep this in mind next year. Might hop on the Goldwing and do a quick ride there on the Goldwing from Tucson. I could even do the Iron butt challenge at the same time!

    Terry Gaydair is desperate to stay relevant after destroying his reputation in front of tens of thousands of people he pretended to be 'mentoring'. He destroys everything good in his life like his marriage because he is an incompetent loser. The ultimate loser. Even his own kids hate him. His neighbors tell us he is just a moron,nothing else. He couldnt collect enough food stamps to go to Sun N Fun this year LOLOL. His wife who left him had already planned on having some more fun with a real man. Poor butthurt Trailer Terry, people say I may be down, but at least I am not Terry Gaydair, stolen valor.

    HomebuiltHELP channel builds ribs and attaches to spars completely different than you did? was there a design change somewhere or who deviated from the plans? i cant figure out yet which build/design is better or stronger, looks like yours is stronger and more difficult to build, maybe your plan is better? i think using a legal eagle fuselage with afforadplane wings would be a great combination, I dont like the side sway of the 2D fuselage, or where landing gear attaches to fuselage with brackets bending inward from normal landings. i do like the wing design. but you have ribs on the tpo and bottom where other only have ribs on top, plus you have a stringer across the top of the ribs? yours must be certainly stronger rib build but heavy?

    Hi Terry, i have a hirth 2706 fuel injected and am thinking about converting it to a free air carb model. would you have any parts you wuld sell? thanks. Bill

  • @affordaplanestore
    @affordaplanestore3 ай бұрын

    If you are wanting to get carbs for your hirth I would recommend www.mikunipower.com/TM01.htm , they offer very good quality and price. You may also find some bing carburetors used on the web like Facebook market place or ebay. Another resource I would recommend is heavenboundaviation.com/ . Also if you are wanting to sell your fuel injection, I would be curious about that.

(lie) so don't even know if it will run. the fuel injection looks new never used, so they may have upgrading it. I'll keep you posted. Thanks Bill

    Terry, thanks for documenting the building and flying of Tango Alpha One! Also thanks to Dave Edwards for having a sufficiently thick skin to withstand 20 plus years of the ultralight community online forums and the "armchair aeronautical engineers" that moderate those forums criticizing and damning his design as a death trap for anyone foolish enough to buy the plans and actually build and fly the Affordaplane.

    Great set of videos on this plane; you have sure done a great job building this plane and should be very very proud!!! The videos on this plane are very interesting. I do have one very important question? How does the fuel from the tank get to the motor? Is there a fuel pump? It doesn't look like it could be gravity fed? I am considering trying to build one of these.

    the bearing spun in the case, the case got hot, the heat transferred to the donut, it decompiled, the rubber donut parts (probably was only one large piece at first) acted like a brake between the crank and the housing and just stopped the crank (you can see it in your flight video). The case cooled as you descended, the rubbed dislocated and freed the prop, you can see that as well in the flight video, then you restarted it. The case may or may not be damaged from the spinning bearing outer race where that bearing slides into the case for the gear drive..

    1,760 feet drop over 2.5 miles, 7.5 feet forward for every foot of drop. I think it would have gone farther with the engine fully shut down and ignored.

    Did pretty good till those last few seconds. I can tell from your rapid appendage movements you were puckered up, need to learn to relax when this stuff happens.. It is what it is , fly the plane, I once had the entire rudder fall off a MX with nowhere to land (preflight interrupted by looky lou), unfortunately, the left right cable didn't detach so that tail was back there leaned over on the horizontal stab making up down real hard, and I knew if the tail tipped the rest of the way back it would be hanging by the cable flapping in the wind. I also knew if I used the up down too much and the rudder didnt fall off, it might reposition and jam the horizontal stab. I knew there was ZERO I could do about it, except pull the chute or fly the plane, so I flew the plane. Didnt make any turns, and used the wing spoilers for slight yaw control. I landed on the tippy top of a hill, I mean, there was no room to park a car on top of this hill, and I was on top of it lol. But I got there by flying the plane, keeping it in control, and altering its maximum maneuver capabilities to match the current newly reconfigured inflight design, no rudder with a dash of catastrophe if it fell off the horizontal stab. No matter how much $$ you have in equipment, that cheap red disc speed indicator is the best investment you can make. Should have used it like the bible, if you had made you minimum acceptable power off speed the next notch up, then gear probably wouldn't have folded, it stalled completely and dropped hard on the gear last few seconds. You were lucky the stall was within feet of the ground and all you lost was the gear, 10 or more feet higher and you may have had a nose over and some injuries NICE FLYING I wish I knew what caused the sudden flameout, and what you were doing to get some rpm's back, looks like you were working the heck out of something. My personal choice would have been to abandon playing with the engine and just let it shut down about 60 seconds before that landing, more time to fly the plane as configured (glider). Not landing into the wind was also a factor, I played it at 0.25 speed and watched the rudder, lots of right rudder at the end trying to keep lined up with an imaginary runway (or is it that camera hanging out there yawing the plane left), thats effecting airspeed and lift drag, and that sudden down elevator trying to get speed back just before impact.
