I agree with everything you said 💯. Terrifier 1 and 2 are both well made, like some real talent went into some of the filmmaking, but the writing is dogshit. I hated these films. The thing that bothers me most about Terrifier 2 is: When the main character is in the shower, it shows some very sexy camera angles, and that had me confused because isn't she supposed to be a teenager? A child 🤔

My interpretation of the songwriter is that he is actually Satan in human form. In jewish folklore, Lucifer is described as the angel of music. It is said that the wind blowing through his horns produces the most beautiful sounds no man. It is from these legends that the devil's relationship with music throughout the ages is derived.

I also just watched both films back to back, and there are things I prefer about each of them: the Danish one was far more realistic (there's absolutely no way the baby survived the disembowelment) and despite the baby's death the original still managed to have a hopeful ending with Iben coming down from the bridge after Asger thought she'd jumped. On the other hand, because the American one had so much more emotion, it did move me to tears a few times, admittedly largely due to the decision to make the protagonist a heartbroken father (I can relate, though I'm not technically a parent, but a much older sibling). I also thought adapting the meteorological setting to a California forest fire was pretty creative and added more of a sense of chaos than the rain, but the original meteorology works too. Another HUGE difference that I haven't noticed many commentators mention is the 6yo's regard for her father. Abby dislikes the police because they "took Daddy away," whereas Mathilde trusts the police and is afraid of her dad and even thinks he'll kill her mom. I actually prefer the way the daughter is written in the remake, because it hints that the father may not be a bad person, whereas in the original it seems a bit too much like a deliberate misdirect in hindsight after knowing the truth, though, granted, the father did have a history of assault, so he was likely a good man who could be scary and perhaps somewhat morally grey depending on the situation. The way the cops reacted to Oliver was also vastly different, and I'm not sure what I prefer. I like that the American one was less expositional, but I think the Danish one wins on that front for being more realistic. The superior realism of the Danish one would normally make it easily my preference, but honestly I actually loved that Joe clearly and openly regards everyone around him as an idiot, and that character decision is what makes it difficult for me to definitively say which version is superior. Imo I think the American film would've been perfect if Oliver's fate remained the same, but one good thing I can say about the decision not to kill him, despite how wildly unrealistic it was, is that I can suggest the American remake to anyone even if they have a newborn baby, whereas I maybe shouldn't suggest the original for that reason. I also felt guiltier for the "You should be fucking executed!" outburst on behalf of Joe than on behalf of Asger once the truth is revealed, which I guess means that it came off as a lot more harsh in the American version, which I attribute to Joe's stammering and hesitation before he delivers the last word, while Asger sounded certain of what he was going to say from the start of his sentence. Asger is a lot more calculating, whereas Joe, although just as smart, was more driven by emotion which made his outburst to Henry more impactful and hurtful, I think. It actually bothered me that he never apologized to Henry, whereas I wasn't as bothered that Asger didn't apologize to Michel because I felt he didn't have as much to apologize for.

It's worth noting that the editor's cut is mostly a restoration rather than a new cut. Murawski clarified the intent was to restore the film to an earlier cut that was prior to some further executive meddling. Mainly, it restores some deleted scenes, removes some scenes added in reshoots, and uses alternative takes from before the reshoots. Most notably though, it restores Christopher Young's full score which was chopped up and replaced in many places.

"Don't stray off the course. You'll die." "Oh, you didn't die." "We can't separate because everything changes all the time." They split up and nothing changes. Each shot didn't have to be a 3-minute art film student shot. I'm sure an hour of the camera lingering on a shot could have been cut. Interesting premise, an interesting story, and while I'm not looking for gory death traps, some consequences needed to be shown. Oh, and the telekinetic daughter just thrown in at the end?
