The Zone of Interest EXPLAINED

Ойын-сауық

The Zone of Interest is another movie about one of the greatest tragedy in human history, the holocaust. A difficult and horrible time frequently paired with rightfully difficult and horrible media. The Zone of Interest is hardly horrible but it is difficult in ways you'll have to see to believe. Or you can listen to me ramble about it for 8 minutes.

    You can tell what attracted glazer to the film and location becuase of how this house is the perfect metaphor for planet earth. Life and death happening at once. Heaven and hell happening at once. The garden of Eden and gates of hell next door to each other. A greenhouse on one side of wall that promotes growth of life while another building across the wall promotes death and carnage . The sounds of birds chirping clashing with sounds of screaming and crying, images of children playing while children being separated on other side of wall. Look at the flowers look at your man made pool, play with the dog. What’s that over the wall? Nothing… why do you care? It’s their fault not yours according to your family. Sorry to be so graphic but glazer just puts it all out there. People always ask how people sit around all day and not doing anything to stop atrocities … this family was RIGHT NEXT DOOR FOR A LONG TIME and their mind did not change… will we?

    Yeah I suppose it works on that level. The contrast, the attempt to blur reality, the Grey Zone between comfort and suffering. I get it but can you really take artistic licence with such a grim human subject? If I had lived through Auschwitz as a prisoner I don't know if even the artistic interpretation of the place would sit easily with me. We as the non-experienced have the comfort of a nice warm cinema with popcorn etc and YT to discuss it's merits. I'm going to struggle with this and I'm certainly not prepared to say it's incredible etc. No, it's going to divide opinion I'm afraid

    I've been reading lots of reviews about this movie, and I notice in the comments that some Nazi attitudes are being ignited. To explain in more detail, a lot of comments are literally telling folk that they are wrong if they don't get on with the movie. I don't like it, full stop, yet when I say that I'm told I don't know what I'm talking about it. It may be crap in my eyes, but saying that attracts flak. Was that the creator's intention? If so, I admire his chutzpah

  • @RB-.-

    Possibly because you're calling it crap and not giving any critiques. Even if you think its too slow or too one-note, its at the very least masterfully crafted, edited, directed & shot. plus so much research was put into it so to reduce it to "crap" seems a bit dismissive.

    I saw this movie a couple weeks ago. And I wasn’t impressed. I get it, I get the message, but to me this was all message and no movie. I automatically hate the characters, so I don’t care about them or their daily lives. So I’m bored the whole time, even though get the whole point it’s trying to tell me is how boring evil can be. But like…now I’m bored. And the cut to the present day asuchwitz I just found confusing.

  • @RendanLovell

    @RendanLovell

    5 ай бұрын

    Fair but I think you did ultimately miss the point. “Evil can be boring” isn’t really what it’s going for. “Evil can be us” is more accurate and far more creepy. If we knew half of what most people do on a daily basis (obviously we aren’t committing genocide) we would probably hate them automatically too. The cut to present just highlights the real loss sinking into a vulnerable family in a difficult position.

    @@RendanLovell but even in the movie this family was racist in their daily lives. And the wife knew of all the horror going on and not only did she not care whatsoever, she actively enjoyed the spoils of it. Including getting that coat and having all those servants. That is just not a thing that I think could be “any of us”. And im glad you found something from that cut to present day, but even your explanation still confuses me lol

    Given that the Brits are litelarily supporting the Nazis nowadays, that in Canadian parlament there is a standing ovation to Wafen SS soldier in his old age, humanizing Nazis and indentifying with the Nazis is only natural. Boring film btw, but will get an oscar unlike some much better holocaust movies that were snubbed just because they showed anazi atrocities against the Slavs (how dare they show that Nazis also killed Slavs in Jasenovac death camp and other places, say the critics of Variety and the snubbing academy that did nominates only worthy perspectives)
