Michygoss

Michygoss

My name is Michelle and welcome to Michygoss.

What exactly is Michygoss? It's (almost) a word borrowed from an old language, sometimes defined as 'wacky', 'absurd', nonsensical' (mishegoss), so I'm running with it. Doing my level best to live those ideals in all the ways the lovely Monashees here in southern BC (Canada) afford me, and my ever-changing roster of 4-legged adventure companions. And the odd 2-legged one :)

I am a project junkie, and am continually working on the development of our properties with my husband. I love working with my hands and building / creating things, from carpentry to sewing and many things in between. I have a portable sawmill, so many of my build projects are using lumber from our property. I am passionate about animals and my pack of dogs (and cat) will likely be included in my content somehow :)

    Scammed……. Crud……. The law in these countries need to take it seriously. It’s the only way it will ever end. Catch them and give them stiff penalties. Really stiff penalties. They are treated like a nuisance when in some countries they would be dealt with brutally. I truly hope Delete Me helps you out. Poor 🐶 doggie. Our Jack Jack has one eye which is blind now. Thank you for sharing the diagnosis. I’ll know what I am seeing if Jacks gets to that point.

    All of that forest management you are doing is going to reward you in ways you can't yet imagine. Responsible forestry, clearing dead trees and using the resources properly will turn that overgrown land into a lush paradise eventually. You'll have more animals, more berries, healthier trees and birds and just more land to enjoy. You may not think about it now, but you could become a real wood wright eventually. You're still young and pretty and pushing yourself to learn at your own pace and you don't have to make Sam Maloof quality furniture or museum type pieces to be a wood wright in my book, you just have to have a solid foundation of knowledge about trees and wood and how to work with it and you're getting that in the best possible way, by doing it yourself. After you master tree felling and build a few more structures and your shop (explain to your husband that bigger is better with wood!) you can branch out and find out what you really like. Maybe you'll turn bowls or make furniture or toys or musical instruments or craft items, doll houses, work benches, cabinets, pens, Christmas ornaments or whatever. When your shop is done, make a pair of mallets and learn basic carving and joinery with some chisels. Try new things like making your fort with as few nails and screws as possible, practice doweling and mortise tenon work wherever you can, and you'll be surprised at how fast you get good at it and where and when you can apply it. I see a lot of myself in you, well, I don't mean it that way, but I love to experiment and push my skill set and I have been making things for 30 years for no real reason. I started out as a 7-year-old kid looking at the "free plans" on the back pages of Popular Mechanics magazines and my dad taught me how to hammer a nail in a board and use a saw and I just never stopped.

I was thinking, a curved draw knife would seem to contour to the tree for debarking, not sure if they exist. Speaking of bark, to me, the hound's bark often sounds like 'borrow' 😁. Glad to hear Steve's doing better.

    Hmm, what fort is complete without a car alternator waterwheel for 12v power and a zip line for fun? *hint hint*😆

  • @armslength2618
    @armslength261813 сағат бұрын

    Car alternator needs substantially higher rpm to run effectively than what is available from a waterwheel. Say a small engine runs at 3000 rpm and has a 2:1 or 3:1 speed gain on the alternator pulley - you do the math. Won't work. Check out some of the modern 'recovery' generators small yachts might have to turn a shaft by the propeller. Those will be spinning much slower than some alternator.

  • @duke68318
    @duke6831812 сағат бұрын

    @@armslength2618 It actually is mechanically doable with a permanent magnet conversion and a double pulley system. 40v is easily attainable from a relatively slow water flow using a flume system.

  • @armslength2618
    @armslength26186 сағат бұрын

    @@duke68318 First of all you don't need a magneto to have field excitation, just some initial brief DC voltage causing field excitation current to get the party started. Small airplanes used to have magnetos because carrying around batteries was heavy and not particularly reliable. But in a hydro situation any 12v dc batt or similar brief DC source is fine. Or whatever other voltage that the system is designed for. Second, the voltage regulator maxes out at about 2 amps excitation current with a 12-volt source, which may create a 40-50 volt potential at low 'idle' speed. BUT voltage is not current and the amount of current (and hence power) you will get is directly related to RPM. Tiny current, tiny power. If you want to start using huge pulley ratios, you better have the high prime mover torque available to overcome the alternator resistance as well as maybe a chain or gear drive to avoid belt problems. It's also possible to overdrive an alternator if for example your penstock system gets hit with very high pressure head from some torrential rain downpour. Third, three-phase power is way cooler than DC stuff so you'd want to regulate the prime mover's rpm range and torque to maintain 3-p frequency and current (and phase angle) within suitable ranges. That's the way modern portable 'generator's work, like the Honda. Although excitation current on the power-generation rotor is voltage-regulated, the prime mover engine throttle (torque, rpm) is governed by the amount of demand current going across a DC-DC bridge that powers the consumer inverter. So you can use penstock pressure valve control to regulate turbine rotor speed through variable torque requirements, instead of the throttle control of the gas engine. And just use 3-phase sinewave generator power electronics instead of 1-phase. But a cheap auto alternator ain't gonna cut it. You need a type and size of ac current excitation generator built for the particular application.

    @@armslength2618 you are correct on all points. I’m going off the power needed for a “fort in the woods” ie, single 12 volt deep cycle battery hooked to a few led light strips and a usb charger or two, nothing large scale. I appreciate your knowledge, I was perhaps not making myself clear on how much power production I was referring to. 🍻✌🏻

    We had a fort aka club house . Based off little rascals show 60s . We dug a huge hole in da woods . Cut small trees coved hole . The entry was basically a sloped side walk not covered was aeesome till it rained n filled hole with water n we pulled tree off n had our very own water hole to swim in . Muddy but we didn't care . Later that summer the hole was filled in by park workers . Note dont build on public property . One of many fun summers as a kid . Enjoy yourself looks like a good time. Steve keep an eye on her you might come home to a sky scraper with glass dome to do some star gazin 😂❤❤❤ telescoptic raises like an elevator . Warning huge deep hole required with huge hydraulic fluid tank . Tallest is only 5 stories holding 9000 lb cubic glass square . 360 panoramic views. Rotating pad not included . The cube would only be 15 x 10 Circular pad dome would be 10 ft x10 ft Hydraulics hoses pumps shafts would need a story deep hole 5 ft wide circle lined with concrete Seperate 7 x 10 x 4 tank for hydro fluid . This would be like a huge flag pole that retracts into the ground . Let your imagination run from there .

    Love your videos, been awhile since I checked in. Glad to see you (finally) wearing chaps while cutting, and don’t fret about starting saw with chain brake on, that’s like wearing a full coverage motorcycle helmet while driving your truck.. As an ex logger I get nervous watching you fall some of those trees, leaners and snags can be unpredictable (especially snags) and things can go sideways in a hurry. I’ve lost a couple friends and know some that were crippled for life from trees not doing what they thought they would. Also get your self some 7/16 cable chokers with eyes on one end, waaay better than chain for pulling logs, if local industrial supply doesn’t have them just get some 7/16 cable with eyes on each end and use a small ring shackle as a choker bell.

    I bought a W.M. 22", Dec 2023 and have 20 hours on it milling Nor Cal Black Walnut. I lost 2 Blades Because I was Over Tightening the blade. Manual says "Snug plus 3 turns". Snug, to me, means 1-2lbs torque but it was too much, blade broke. So I use a torque wrench at 25lbs.... The ruler system must have been under torqued. Use Lock Tite or nylock nuts. I suspect the engine moving and the resulting belt movement is also under torqued. Once you know it's square use Lock Tite.
