Featuring, Witchy Mitchy. (Spine surgery update too!)

Hey friends! Join me in my hippie hot tub down by the creek! I had been wanting to do this since the middle of winter, and never got to doing it. I have been taking care of Steve full time, who is recovering from major spine surgery, so this was nice little 'getaway' for me.
Steves recovery has been horrible for him - that first week was not only the surgical pain, but his severe leg/nerve pain is still there and it's almost worse than it was before surgery. No narcotic would touch the pain, they only made him super sick and still in pain. A family member recommended Lyrica, which is for nerve pain, and since I got him on that on Sunday, he's finally getting some relief. It's still horrible leg pain, which is scary (you wonder if all the disc was removed) because most people that have a spinal decompression like this feel instant relief from that nerve pain. However, the neurosurgeon feels that this is normal as his nerve was so squashed that this pain is a sign that the nerve is telling us it's alive and trying to recover (albeit pissed off!). Anyway, time will tell. 🤞🏼
I started sharing my life on KZread because I felt a sense of loneliness being a super busy bee, building little things, creating little things and not having someone to share it with (that appreciates it in the same way). Steve isn't that interested in my silly little projects, which is totally ok, but I knew that other people might be. The slowing down of production of these builds and things (from doing all filming and editing etc) is still worth it to me though! It's a patience I have to practice, continually.
Thanks for joining me and see you in the next video!
Michelle 💝

You guys have NO idea how beneficial a tax funded health care system can be for most individuals. And it’s easy to find fault with individual cases or situations because bad things can happen at all levels of care. But if we in Australia had to pay directly every time a loved one was hospitalised, which over 99% of us don’t have to do, we’d have all been dead decades ago. Nobody here on any income level has to pay for emergency or necessary surgery or health care, except those who choose to take out private health insurance for whatever reason, and hundreds, perhaps thousands of lives are saved every day as a direct result of our decision to have a Medicare system. Yes it’s been eroded time and time again by right wing parties when in government but what’s left still works well for most patients. I’m not Canadian, I don’t have Steve’s chronic back problems, and perhaps I shouldn’t comment on Michelle’s comment that the Canadian health care system only seems to care for people that don’t take care of themselves, but that opinion is very surprising..

@@stevegunning1806, does everyone in Australia pay taxes ? In America , approximately 47% of the population do not pay federal income tax , yes they do pay tax on things in their everyday life , but not to the federal government. Thomas Sowell wrote that , when a third party is paying the bill, they neither care about the cost or the quality of the product being provided , because they are not actually paying for it .

Hi Michelle, I just recently had the seventh surgery on my leg that was mangled in a head-on collision. Not my fault, wrong place wrong time. It has been frustrating at times but it is finally improving. I will never be able to do some of the things I used to do but I have accepted that. I spent a lot of time watching KZread clips and found yours a while back. Thank you for being down to earth and sharing your life. For me it has been motivational and I am sure for others as well. I hope Steve makes a full recovery. You both are blessed to have each other and to live in such a beautiful place. Stay safe and by the way I am a huge animal lover as well.I used to volunteer my time with a rescue group. Those days are over but I can still make a difference by adopting shelter animals!

At 79 yrs old I have been on Lyrica for 20 yrs, for severe peripheral neuropathy, caused by a year of Tx with Enterfiron (Sp). Lyrica makes the nerve pain tolerable, but a delayed or missed dose brings the agony right back. Seeing Steve working on the pump in his bathrobe is a testament of his determination and resilience. I say hang in there buddy, you"re on the mend. I too enjoy your "little projects", which are very entertaining, with Foxy Loxy, being my favorite. Keep up the good work, Michelle.

Thanks for posting...as an engineer I can relate to Steve's apparent lack of expressing enthusiasm for what you do...we can be immensely impressed but also somewhat stoic. I believe Steve shows his care for you by helping when you ask while otherwise not getting involved and giving you the "freedom" and support to do what's important to you and the things that you like to do....He lets you be yourself....

Wow, what an amazing coincidence. My main guy that works for me in my Remodeling business, is going thru what Steve is dealing with, as we speak. It may not be identical, but I can say to everyone, that back problems are SO debilitating and painful. Its one of those things that you cant even relate to, unless you are wearing those shoes. So I wish a BIG shout out to Steve, to just hang in there and try to get well soon. Michelle, you did a great job on the hot tub. Man I bet that felt so amazing, and it was well deserved. Take good care of yourselves, you guys. Better times are ahead!

I had a laminectomy of T4-T7 in May 2023 at UW in Seattle too. My surgery has provided a stop to the degeneration, but I still have the nerve damage that had occurred. It's a slow and frustrating process so take care of yourself, and ask Steve to take care of himself too, physically and mentally. It's a change of pace, but hopeful for a positive outcome. Like you said, it's a process. I can't imagine the stress of getting in a car for that long right after surgery to return home... where it's quiet and calm. Cheers

Well engineered box, Michelle. You built it out of decent plywood, to begin with. That helps. I'm sorry Steve is still in pain. Glad the Lyrica is helping though. I know he's frustrated... and being in constant pain, will depress anyone. Nerves are tricky things... and their healing is complicated. "Normal" is a relative term... particularly when it comes to pain. Good to see you out, and doing "Michy" things around the place. For whatever it's worth, thank you for sharing. I haven't watched every video you've put out... yet. I will, though. As a long-haul trucker, I have limited time at home, but your KZread channel is my favorite. What a great channel this one is. Tell Steve I had a slow recovery from an L5-S1 when I was in my 30's, so just be patient. After 3 months the nerves finally calmed down and it just got better with time. The fact that he had multi-level and was able to be up helping you with that pump is a good sign!

L5-S1 fusion survivor here as well, but mine was at 49 years old! The biggest challenge for me has been trying to lose weight and get back to my previous levels of activity. Fusion is not a small deal, thats for sure. Good luck to you and to Steve!!

He spent the first 3-4 days upstairs, in bed, unable to get downstairs. Day helping with the pump was Monday - one of his best days so far! I think we need change medications again though 😏

Hi I have been a para for 23 years , 21 years using Gabapentin ( a pregabalin ) I tried Lyrica when it came out about 16 years ago. I found that it messed up my head , just affected my thought process badly. I went back to Gabapentin 4 TD and changed dosage until I found the balance between pain and being able to function. Still have nerve pain at the level of my injury but at least I’m not slurring my words.

It’s funny you say that about your health care. Our liberal media here in the states is constantly telling us how our health care needs to be more like Canada’s.

I am a Canadian and I can assure you our healthcare system isn’t worth it your months and months waiting for test waiting for surgeries. Lots of people in this country died before they ever get to see surgery or a doctor had a family member who had cancer was in agonizing pain for months and the day he died was the date they diagnosed him with lymphoma.

And it's our conservative governments (Provincial) that are trying to make it like the US system. That's why our healthcare system is failing here in Canada.

OHIP Ontario Health Isurance Plan, used to be amazing. It got overwhelmed with people abusing it and got to costly. They had slash a lot of the coverage and raise the cost for what's leftover. Still better than a lot of other places.

Don't worry our government in the states has forced their control and put everyone on the system .We found out how much control they have during covid.Lying to us and threatening us if we didn't comply. Now our healthcare and police departments are bad and it takes months to get results and longer to get specialists...You don't even get to talk to doctors anymore after testing to ask questions. You go online and find it your chart and hope you understand the lingo. You arent told to come back or anything...it's a joke here...A girl had a stroke and its several months before she can see a specialist.Stokes keep happening so that's outrageous...

So glad to hear from you Michelle. I figure at the beginning of the week you were busy nursing Steve or still getting back from the US. I'm pleased that Steve has had good surgery to remove the squashed nerves. Now for rest and healing, which he'll get frustrated with, as he's a man of doing things and not sitting around! - But, you have to listen to your body, especially as we all get older! I loved seeing the cooking of "Michy in the pot"! You need to fabricate a comfy headrest mounted to a bracket clamped to the side of the "cooking pot", or maybe attached by some bent/folded pieces of steel or aluminium shaped to the curve of the sides?, so you can truly relax with your head and neck leaning safely back! Keep doing what you're doing. You have many of us fans and friends that love what you do, and seeing the pets! 😀❤

Poor Steve! For those of us who have lived life mostly pain free and without back or joint problems or other chronic issues, we could never understand. It's not easy on the partners either. Thank you for the insight in to your family and your motivation for doing this. I'm glad you decided to. OH, AND, what a beautiful spot next to that creek! I just bought a house on a river (Rum river in Anoka MN) that is being renovated and I'm so looking forward to spending time next to flowing water.
