If you have made it this far hit the subscribe button for more. I am a R and R tech for a local transmission shop. I am trying to help a new mechanic or experienced one who wants to see how a particular job is done. I try to work as efficiently as possible and hope I can help people who are struggling on a job. I am far from perfect but I am trying to provide clear video of each job and try to include as many steps as possible. Some of my videos are tailored more for an experienced mechanic as some obvious steps are left out. I hope you enjoy and you can always comment below videos suggestions so I can improve. Thanks for watching!!

Just like you did. Comment!
How many hours was this job?
Maybe eight
I’m currently having the same issue. Was driving between 65-70 and all of sudden I started to lose acceleration and I’d get the same exact codes on the cluster (hill descent, etc.) I’d pull over turn it off then on and it’s back to normal.
Good luck this is starting to have some issues. The wires might just be starting to go bad or there could be something else going on.
About to do mine in the driveway this weekend, made it 205,000 miles on the original trans. Cheapest rebuilt one I could find was 2700$ before tax and shipping with 1 year warranty. Hoping it works out
Good luck man. I hope it goes smooth.
Nice job! My mechanic is charging $300 labor for this.... I have the OEM VW part got it for $109.00 amazon
Not too bad. They can be a pain!!
I have a 2019 Nissan Sentra at 119k it’s horrible had a extended warranty and still they wouldn’t fix it
Sad sorry to hear that.
The CVT transmission in my 2014 Rogue SL AWD just went down. Exactly 140,014 miles on it. Car in great condition for its age but it will cost me $6,560.53 to get it running again. The new transmission will come with a 2 year / 24,000 miles warranty on parts and labor. I have no choice but to get it done. However, next time I will get either Toyota or Honda.
Sorry It didn’t last. Thanks for the comment.
I am NOT a mechanic.... having said that I came to your video to see where this metal plate goes under my wife's car..... "I removed this plate" wasn't helpful 😂😂😂😂
Maybe not Sorry thanks for the comment.
What Engine size what that Malibu? 2.0 or 1.5L
I think it’s a 2.0. Not 100%
What do you do when your transmission is in park ,but on the dashboard it’s saying to put in park and it’s not starting?
I would take it to the shop
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 okay thanks
I was reading forums and someone said that the module may need flashed. Did you need to get it flashed, it did you just install it and it worked?
It was plug and play for me.
Did you have to remove the exhaust? Also great video
Just the front section
That was AWESOME! Did you used to work at a Ford dealer? My daughter has a 2018 Escape and had the engine replaced for coolant intrusion and 3 months later the flex plate broke. Any correlation? Thanks.
Great video man
Thanks man
At 12:30, that cover on the T-case doesn't need to come off. The T-case comes out fine with the cover on it. Thanks for posting, was a great help!
Thanks for the tip
Very nice video. Maybe it does not matter as it pertains to transmission R&R, but do you recall if that Edge had the 2.0 L "Ecoboost" engine, or maybe one of the other engine options?
I’m not positive.
What tools were you using like exactly
Pretty sure they’re mostly listed but they’re 12 mm 17 mm hex. 6mm Alan and 8 mm Alan.
Great video dude very informative 👍 🦘
Thanks man for taking the time to comment
How long did it take you and do you know if a 2012 Subaru Impreza is similar? Im debating on trying to do this myself
Probably very similar would be very helpful to have a lift probably takes me one hour two hours the most to get them out
6/21/24 and i have a 2013 ford explorer thats needs a new transfercase looks like i found my shop
Bring it on over! Let them know I sent you!
Does engine need to be supported from top?
Nope top Mount holds it
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 it definitely did. Replaced a flex plate that was broken in a perfect square 😂 wish I could upload photos here
Did you need programming for the new transmission?
Yep
This will get a lot of views. It's a common problem with Subaru's.
Thanks man. I sure hope so!!
Thank you so much for making this video! My 2014 outback threw this code today and I wanted to understand how to fix the issue so that I can have an educated conversation with my mechanic
Mitch is gay
First view credit goes to me
Thank you sir!!
no see ni madres need light
mijito chulo no vi ni madres esta muy obscuro tu video, puedes darle luz ???????
Sorry, I don’t speak Spanish
I contacted Ford regarding finding my code. They sent me the link for YOUR KZread video! That's messed up
I think it is awesome!! Thanks for letting me know!! Hope it was helpfull!
Very helpful but unfortunately there's no code under there lol. My mechanic also looked
It’s tough to see
what did u have to remove inside the car and what about the shift linkage
Nothing in the car. Forked pry tool to remove shift linkage or a 10 mm
How much does it cost to install it
I’m not sure they do all that stuff upfront
One more question, Dylan - after everything was assembled, for some reason the engine started not starting; it just makes some cracking sound, and that’s all. The starter is hot on the connector side. Any ideas would be great. And an extra question - after connection, should we still be able to rotate the engine manually (using the bolt on the side)? Because right now it’s blocked. Thanks for any help.
I’m guessing your torque converter wasn’t all the way back probably damage inside the transmission at this point. You should definitely be able to turn the engine by the crank bolt. Even in park
Hi Dylan, awesome content. Your videos are very helpful. Mi question: Does the procedure of this swap applies to a 2016 lacrosse? Please reply. Your answer will be decisive in my purchase of a 2016 lacrosse with bad transmission for 2k
I think they should be pretty close to the same. Not positive tho. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.
Thank you Dylan…🙏🏽🙏🏽..That’s enough for me. Just needed some encouragement. I’m going for it.
Does this also work for 2019 Kia forte Lxs?
Probably not for sure tho
Is is needed to change solenoid strategy after replacement (not same sol strategy on new transmission? ) or computer could relearn it?
Only if you change the solenoids, and sometimes you don’t even have to do the solenoid strategy then just try to drive it and see if it will adapt
Great video! But how did u get access inside transmission to when it is still connected to engine to disconnect torturer converter from engine gear?
Remove the starter the rest, I explained in the video
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 We missed this step 😅 It cost us about 2 hours. I wish I had a stand to return the transmission without it being such a tough task. Hope to finish it today.
This is a video about dropping the pan. No sensor
True. It’s in the harness. Plug and play!
Did you use an engine hoist up top?
Nope supported from below.
Just had to turn the passenger wheel to engage axle splines, then turn the driveshaft to engage the transfer case splines while keeping cvt in the correct orientation.
Thanks for the tip!!
How long did it take you all together and also what is the programming process
Probably around six hours. As far as program, and we call this guy named Joe.
I really appreciated this video, not a lot of info online regarding the CVT replacement. I left the passenger axle and transfer case attached to the engine as someone else here mentioned. Also I was able to leave exhaust manifold attached. Did this on stands in my home garage. Thanks for a great video!
I’m glad that worked out for you man I still have yet to try that
where are you located?
Columbus ohio
Dylan thank you so much for the awesome video, all data doesn’t have remove and replace for this transmission so this helped a ton!
Thanks man that’s why I make these videos
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 have you done any 8 f35 in awd edges. I have two at my shop for overhauls book pays 18.9 to r and r I never remove engines however I helped a friend do one last year we fought it for a day maybe that’s faster transfer case only comes out as transmission is being moved away from engine worst designed vehicle I’ve ever worked on lol and I’ve been working on transmissions for 30 years
What a disorganized mess. I would never let this guy touch my car.
You are gonna go in the front office with a transmission problem and have no clue who fixes it. Unless you do the job your self. Not sure what you think was “disorganized” but I got all the nuts and bolts put where they belong. I can assure you of that. Thanks for the feed back and I hope I never have to work on your piece of shit car. Good luck!👍
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 Dude your shop is a mess and you're broadcasting this on KZread. They way you removed the trans was a hack job and unprofessional as you don't have the correct tools.
I believe these cars are the very definition of "a lemon" and was destined to fail shortly after the mileage warranty expires. If Chevrolet had any integrity, they would scrap the Spark model... at least the automatic transmission version. My big German heritage hands would never fit in that tiny engine so I either have to pay a mechanic with small hands or use skinny tools coupled with mechanic language (aka cussing).
Yeah sad days.
Found one in great shape for a deal, but it has 240k lol. What would you say the max on the stock engine is?
Too many variables to say!
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 That's about what I was thinking too. I appreciate your reply though, I subbed it's good stuff man!
Thanks for this video, im trying now
You got this! Thanks for the comment
How much for a transmission repair? I have a 2013 Malibu Lt
Depends on what is wrong with it.
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 it’s starting to go out so I’m tryna see if I should do a transmission repair or just buy a low mileage one and just get it installed
I've done 2 of them. These Ford Escape transmissions are the most horrific FWD transmissions I've ever had to replace, primarily due to the insane coolant system setup. ISTG I'm certain whoever engineered this was smoking crack and dropping blotters when they designed this hot mess.
Yeah, I’ve kind of gotten used to them now and parts of them can certainly be a nightmare!
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 I do a LOT of Nissan CVT swaps in my shop. A little secret I figured out about the coolant block lines on those. AA batteries plug them PERFECTLY. I could never find locking hose pliers that actually stop them from leaking so I always have 4 dead AAs in my specialty tool drawer just for them so I'm not showering in coolant when dealing with them 🤣
The customer pays. Regardless the service has been done on they're car, sorry but the customer benefits at the end and the worker still have to get paid for getting it done.
Very true!
Can you pull the engine and transmission from the top and replace the transmission out of the car?
Why would you?
Maybe if you don’t have a lift
