In it's early days, the Blue Streak was the roller coaster if Cedar Point, maybe the fastest when it was new. But the roller coasters of today, with their loops and twists, and speeds of 100+ mph make the Blue Streak look like a kiddy coaster. Back in the day, it was impossible at times to find the end of the lines to get on that roller coaster, but today, one might assume that you can just get right on, hardly having to wait at all, with all the roller coasters if today having the insanely long waits.

I haven't seen any huge rebuilds documented. Knowing the era, I suspect it's constructed from really tough old growth redwood (sadly, although it doesn't dampen my enjoyment as it was 100 years ago), and thus a lot of the structure is likely literally the same wood that was there in 1924. Phoenix is a similar situation, having been constructed of really tough old growth wood. Although in the case of Phoenix it was recycled wood from scrapped battleships.

Patriot is actually surprisingly fun, it's not that fast or tall but the laterals and helix are enjoyable, and the head-choppers when going under the track is nice too, I just wish they could add another rollercoaster, but because of the limited space I don't think it'd be very possible.

In the late 1950's Mr. Donley was the proprietor of a PURE OIL filling station at the northeast corner of Clarence Ave. and 26th St. in Berwyn IL. He collected antique phonographs (both disc and cylinder) antique radios (both homemade "breadboard, early "battery" and wooden cased) Tiffany style lamps, and anything fancy and old. Being a youngster who perused the "Bohemian Boulevards" (the alleys of the then Czech Berwyn neighborhoods) daily, and twice on Sundays, I would find all sorts of things that were discarded by "The Greatest Generation" as they cleaned out their parents "Berwyn Bungalows". Mr. Donley was always willing to give me a small amount of cash for the "good stuff" I would find. The Tastee Freez was right across the street, and Mrs. Celba's penny candy store was just a block away, so the cash "stayed in the community". The last thing I sold Mr. Donley was an early 1920's Atwater Kent radio with a "Morning Glory" flower horn speaker. It was a beauty! I would have kept it, but I was just weeks away from having to join the Navy because of the Vietnam Draft. This was in July of 1968. Mr. Donley, who also collected Model T Fords, sold the filling station in 1970. He then, with his sons, started working on Wild West Town. Wild West Town was famous for their off-season antique auctions. I would always see Mr. Donley's sons at the Auctions. The third generation was running it in 2016. The last time I went to one of those, in 2016, I ended up with a 1947 Cushman Motor Scooter that my wife bid on while I was in the rest room!! It "looked nice" but was a wreck inside. My wife and I then found Phil Humphrey's Cushman Performance Parts in Greencastle IN. He rebuilt the motor, put an electric start on it, replaced the rotted wheels with mirror polished stainless steel "Speed Wheels" and a bunch more. My then 57-year-old wife, who had never ridden anything before, loved it. We had to sell it in 2019 because my wife had a bout with spinal meningitis and the Docs said, "no more scooter riding or pistol range!" Mr. Donley was a very nice man who always treated this then-semi-street-urchin fairly. I remember him fondly and wish his family all the best. P.S. I bought my first car from Mr. Donley in October of 1968! It was a 1952 Packard "Clipper" with rotted floorboards, rusted out brake lines and NO Brakes! It cost $20.00! I drove it like that for the 2 weeks of my boot camp leave. I used to put the automatic transmission in reverse to stop. At the end of my leave the old Packard ended its life at the Public Iron scrapyard in Lyons, IL. Back in those days you could get away with stuff like that.
