Using the "P" word is common vernacular as an insult between both friends and rivals and isn't meant as a derogatory term (such as the "N" word or the "F" word - the "F" word I'm referring to being derogatory towards homosexuals.) I think the league went way too overboard on this one.

Poor london is a victim here. Dude look at that game 5 closer. Why did london have a penalty box full of their players late in game 5 of that series? And bonk, dickinson cheap shots just before that? London targeted parekh all series. They are a known dirty team led by a scum bag coach known for one of the dirtiest cheap shots in nhl playoff history. Every ohl city hates london with a passion for a reason. And why are you hating on the ohl? This shit happens in all jr. leagues. Guys get suspended for 'objectory' words' all the time. If the refs had an issue with some bad words, they should have just cancelled the game and given back their salary cheques. You could argue that all players on both teams should just be suspended (except for perhaps the goalies who really don't chirp each other).

I may be wrong, but I think you're putting too much credence into the league stating the actual word he said on the ice. There's at least one other word that the player could have said, conveying a similar on-ice message, that's less forgivable (and more an unambiguously bigoted comment directed at a characteristic of a person), and maybe it's a word the league didn't want to reconvey to the world at large in an effort to protect the perpetrator as well as the victim from public overreaction. So, the league looks stupid, but maybe they're taking that burden on so that the players careers don't get shit on. Separately, while the suspension process does seem to lack due process... my guess is that these playoff games are characterized as invite-only precisely so that the admin don't have to offer due process and can get the games done by a reliable date. And, I'm sure it's spelled out in the tournament rules, which the teams are required to agree to before attending. So, there's due process, it's just contractual and established at entry. If this particular instance were egregiously unfair, I'm sure a bunch of attending teams could request the tournament reconsider the rule (and they would, in an effort to keep a majority of the teams happy - every tournament is a business, after all). I think the teams are probably happy with the process as it is.

On top of this, I’m pretty sure the defenseman was Brandon Hache, who’s dad is the head of OHL officiating. This bias was seen throughout the whole series as through 5 games the penalties taken were 26 for London to 10 for Saginaw. Insanely corrupt.
