Fashion history & facts behind fashion trends
My name is Liz, I'm a fashion and art historian and the founder of the fashion label Pelagona. To me, fashion is much more than wearing certain outfits, going on shopping-sprees or produce unboxing videos. I am interested in the stories behind fashion. On this channel, I'm sharing this passion with you - from fashion history to business facts.

Really interesting.
@@janetboston6603 Thank you!
As far as i remember, capri pants stsrted in esrly 1960's and i remember msry tyler moore wore them in the dick van dyke show. They ended st the ankle,,never mid calf.mid calf pants were for summer and were pedal pushers. I am 86 and this was my. Era
Thanks for your comment. There were different interpretations of them, they started by ending at the ankle and then they also were cropped shorter. The picture of Erni Mangold is from 1949y Mary Tyler Moore played a huge part in making them popular.
No-one in my family has ever worn a Xmas jumper. I can't remember the first time I saw one. It must have been in a movie. My Mum used to knit a lot and she knitted quite a few fair isle jumpers. I think I still have her knitting patterns somewhere. I never got past the knit one pearl one drop one stage 😅
We don’t have the tradition either. I do love the Norwegian jumpers. Would love to see your knitting patterns 😊
Fanatstic video as always Liz. I went down to London in the late 60's with my father who was visiting his tailor. I was wearing capri pants, white ones because it was summer, After my Father's fitting he wanted to take me to Claridges for afternoon tea and I was refused entry because I was improperly dressed. I have 3 pairs of capri pants (red, black and white) that I bought when we lived in France. They're a staple of every French woman's summer wardrobe especially if she's a stay at home Mum.
Really?? It happened to you too? From today‘s perspective it’s unbelievable!
@@PinkLookbook I know it sounds really bizarre but they had very strict dress codes then. They've relaxed them now, thankfully. So, anyway we got in a cab and went to the Dorchester who had similar dress codes. However when my father told them what had happened they let us have a table and we had a somewhat late but very delicious afternoon tea. I can remember it as clearly as if it was yesterday. My father never went to Claridges again, neither did I.
This is absolutely fascinating! Thank yo!
Thank you ❤️
This video will going to be the most viewed video on your channel. Rightly so, you did really great job in research and explaining things.
Oh!I just noticed noticed. Your upper garments looks like an Indian kurti. May. Be I'm wrong but it looks beautiful!
Yes, some clothes will look similar since it is a wedding and not a fashion show. Don’t confuse between the two. There are certain colours that are more common for certain wedding rituals and the guests also were those similar colours. In Indian wedding, women wear heavy jewellery (traditional jewellery). Not party jewellery. Certain customs are cultural and we love our cultural way. Just as we do not judge your tastes from our perspective, so shouldn’t the west. Otherwise, it asked truthfully, your wedding styles are actually boring for us.
Whot a waste of money when there are people going with out food and house to live in the rice people need to give to the poor
Hi Liz, I love learning all this art history from you. Your channel makes it easily understandable . I also do love the Flora design, all the different iterations.
Thank for your lovely comment!
Hello Liz, thank you so much for taking us on a concise tour of the Armani exhibition. I am very impressed that you took the time to learn how to say lotus flower and to bring to us the meaning of the lotus flower. At this point in time , I feel that at the moment, China is getting a bad rap for counterfeit product, poor quality products or blamed even for the of luxury brands designing or selling items to over there due to prioritising profits.... So thank you for bringing up the good points of China.
谢谢你! I think in terms of art history and design there is a lot to learn from China, I particularly enjoy looking into iconography.
Dear lady what you are talking applies only to the rich. People who can afford abujani and the type can be counted on your fingers . A common man wouldn't dream of these names and such circus of a wedding
I love luxury brands and some are my clear favourites. But to queue for coffee after you went to the exhibition is a disgrace and insult. Bangkok has endless great, stylish, premium cafes so why queue in a place that has such a condescending attitude? Why?
The attitude is strange indeed, curious how long people will keep queuing
Thank you Liz, I have always had a love for Miu Miu and I totally respect that a lady runs the Prada brand.
Maybe I should do a video about Miuccia Prada? 🧐
@@PinkLookbook yes please!!!
Wow that`s some beautiful clothes. And very interesting that some cultures show wealth with magnificent materialism and other cultures do the opposite if they are rich ❤
Sometime we should just sit back and enjoy. Beautiful clothes support the craftsmen and traditional art. Money spent is money earned by others. Better than keeping it in vault and swim in it like uncle Scrooge.
I commented that there is a difference in how different cultures show their wealth or don't show their wealth, I didn't comment on how they should spend their money, that is none of my business, I don`t understand you commend regarding me. But I see that you are very busy in the comment section😉. The clothes are certainly beautiful and a lot of work has been put into it, no doubt about that.
As an Indian, I'm impressed by your research sister ❤
@@filmwood7979 Thank you very much, I really appreciate it!

😍
Your accent british
Not even close
Fantastic ♥️
Thank you ☺️
Loved this video so much. You have really done your research and speak very well. A shoutout to your reactions to Kim & Khloe’s attendance at the wedding 🙃
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
You seem to be very impressed by their I'll gotten wealth...shame on you
Jealous mulli
Hmmm... Let us know how you and your father got that money with which you are using that mobile and the JIO internet to litter on KZread.😒😒😒
Tgese ambanis are the biggest thugs and frauds of india, biggest tax evaders and cheaters...do don't be in awe abt their jewellery, wedding or their extravagant and vulgar display of their looted wealth...the common citizens of india ate paying for their upkeep
first of all Liz u are looking like a million bucks in the indian outfit yourself!! Beautifully covered and documented. loved watching the outfits of the wedding and ofcourse it is going to be the most talked about wedding for a long time. God bless the couple..
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
Talk less, show more
verbose and tiresome.
The Ambani family should have spent money on Anant's health care! Send him to a gym! Rest is TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY! Mukesh , the father, could have build homes for the poor or helped the poor in some way with his millions! This marriage won't last. They are attention seekers!
You do not get to decide what's waste of money nor you should try to tell others how they should spend it. Even worse that you curse their marriage. Attention seeker? It's his wedding. Envy is a sin. Go and reflect on yourself.
Who told you they didn’t! All health issues are not curable by gym .. for example obesity in western world. So don’t comment without knowing. Even with health issues Anant Ambani is more successful and kinder than ppl like u 😂
@thehawkseye3412 MY REFLECTION IS HE SHOULD HAVE HELPED ALL THOSE EXTREMELY POOR, POOR INDIANS IN SOME WAY INSTEAD OF PAYING MILLIONS TO WEST ERN CELEBRITIES TO PERFORM ON THE WEDDING. JUST IMAGINE THE BLESSINGS HE WOULD HAVE RECEIVED FROM ALL THE POOR PEOPLE IN THEIR PRAYERS FOR HIM! HE COULD HAVE IMPROVED THEIR LIVING CONDITIONS BY BUILDING HOMES WHERE THE SHANTY TOWNS ARE WITH THE 600 MILL OR BILL HE SPENT! MONEY IS YOUR PEOPLE'S GOD NOT MINE!
@oindrilaju IF THIS GUY WAS KINDER THAN ME, HE SHOULD HAVE HELPED THE POOR OF INDIA WITH MONEY THAT HE WASTED ON PAYING THE WESTERN CELEBRITIES TO PERFORM ON THE WEDDING! THAT'S WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE!
@ndean3296 Why are you screaming? Money spent was earned by others. Cultural events are good to have. This is also PR and catering to multiple business partners and network. Poverty doesn't get solved by some free money. Learn to work for your money instead of expecting handouts and free money.
Vulgar display of wealth
Envy is not nice.
The very first blue sherwani that anant wore. My husband wore a similar one with works only on arms for our wedding. That blue stood out because not many groom wear deep blue on wedding day.
@@poojasingla9693 Blue is a stunning colour, it must have looked amazing!
At some point, very soon sadly, fatigue set in as outfits began to.look similar in a blur of white gold, pink and orange. The jewellery was meh. Ropes of uncut diamonds and emeralds, again blurring into a mass of tastelessness.
@@cinnow I expected more “twists” regarding the outfits. In a way it reminded me of the Met Gala where I also had expectations and it turned out differently 😂
You lack the expertise to define what's "tasteless" and tasteful. It was mostly a traditional wedding with traditional dresses and promoting traditional craft and cultural themes. If you wanted twists, you were at the wrong place.
I don't think you know about jwellery Buddy
Plus idk about tastelessness when most of western jwellery isn't even big enough to be called jwellery it's just sad peices here and there with most boring designs one can think of so it's kinda inappropriate to have a jwellery talk with western lenses when most of y'all jwellery is crass and not creative enough for indian peices.
All outfits kind of looked the same on the wedding…. Same style different colour. My fav was the flower dress
You mean the yellow one?
@@PinkLookbook yes the one made with real flowers. It must be so fragrant. I guess everyone gets intrigued with such elaborate display of wealth and it was popping up everywhere on social media, there was no hiding fm it…🤣 it was like Niagara Falls of cash 💰. I’m interested in fashion so thanks for covering the nicer outfits. Most of them were …an ornate skirt and a fancy bra. I wld have liked to see some artistic necklines but hey…
@@scheheb2152 that was one of my favourites as well, also because it looked more fun than the other ones
That colorful outfits are wored for garbha, which is trendional gujrati dance form, so everyone wears colorful outfit for garaba...... And there is nothing in India that you can not wear surtain color in wedding cause whatever you do, you cannot outshine the bride😅 even people repeat their wedding outfits to others wedding still they can not... Like shloka did its normal to do that
I agree - it’s difficult to outshine the bride 😂
Though I do not acknowledge the attitude of this Lavish extravagant PR wedding, your sense of Indian fashion was very knowledgeable and well put together.👍
Thank you for your comment. I wanted to use it to put the spotlight on Indian fashion because it deserves way more recognition
Nothing wrong with PR wedding. Amababies are big and have business and business partners around the globe. Even normal middle class weddings are not small events. Otherwise one could just arrange a small wedding in some temple with only close family and handful of friends.
If I had the same amount of money, I would have spent at least 90% of the wedding money to the social welfare of India. (Still remaining 10% would have made a extravagant wedding) Thats what many filthy rich people do in western world do, donating to poor countries. 80 percent of Ambani’s fellow citizens are still suffering from poverty but in the contrary carelessly they threw the money on rich guests. Sorry doesn’t sound right.
Talk is cheap. Especially when you are no where near him. Since you do not have that money and not actually running that big business and no need to bother with PR, your plan about what to do with that kind of money if nothing but empty words. However, feel free to spend 90% of the money you save for your own or you children's wedding on poor and get the wedding done in some local temple with only close family. Remember you do not need to throw any parties or attend any concerts or events or movies- give to poor.
@@shanthipragasamThen better logout from KZread, sell your phone, get off your sofa and DO SOMETHING. Would love to see how many needy children are you sponsoring for their education, or how many hungry people are you feeding... Also mention the name of your "charitable trust".😒😒😒
Very detailed and very appropriate.
Thank you!
Vote with "Your" $. Take your shopping $ elsewhere. I worked at the Ch-@n-el Boutique on Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles, CA. We were provided with a uniform once a year. The idea was for the customers not to see a person. The customers wanted to buy my uniform and the make-up I was wearing, anyway. I was/am the same person when I woke up, readied for work, went out the door and arrived at work, as the same person. Be your Joy, wear your Joy for you.
Thanks for sharing this, very interesting and I agree with “wearing your joy”
Thank you both for making a video together. This is so awesome. I resonate a lot with @5ftnothing about fashion. Liz you made such a great point about women always being told what and how to look at the decades of our age. I don't know why either. I just want to look the best of myself. Keep up the good work you two!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment! 😍
Great bag, but the bottom corners wear down easily.
Yes, they do. I did another video where i tried their repair service, maybe you find that helpful
@@PinkLookbook Thank you😊
definitely a big achievement for him. lovely video. looks very artistic...
Thank you. I agree, it is very artistic!
I love Longchamp bag❤❤
☺️
So good video one hour went so fast and the ending…”see what is available near you” this is so true. We sometimes want what we see on the runway but the reality is different.
Glad you enjoyed it. And I agree, it’s really useful advice
What a nice surprise that the two of you made a video together ☺. Luckily I rarely experience bad or rude service, but when it happens, I tell them immediately and leave the store and never come back. Life is to short for bad behaviour 😆. Love from Denmark
It was so nice to have this conversation, glad you enjoyed it too. I admire you that you immediately say something, I often don’t and then I’m annoyed with myself after
Amazing le pliage bag review: I have one on the way from Guilt: it's absolutely gorgeous in burnt orange & black leather trim with the Longchamp lettering on top of the zipper with cable zipper pull- "Longchamp Le Pliage Energy XS Canvas & Leather"🧡🧡🧡
Thank you! That sounds really nice, enjoy your bag ☺️
Where can send the bag for repair. Thank u
You can drop it in your nearest boutique, I’ve done another video where I explain the process
Excellent video as always! I have Le Panier Pliage which I love to use in the summer. It's so lightweight and surprisingly durable ❤
Yeah, they are really durable and I like how practical they are
Just bought a Trinity ring for myself, love it!!
Oh that’s nice! Enjoy it!
Love them! Use it when I travel! Practical, lightweight, simple timeless design. I have several bags
Yeah, they are so great for travelling!
I wouldn't buy a superfake or any type of fake anything. For me it's a moral issue and also I buy luxury bags for myself not to show off to other people.
I‘m the same, I want to appreciate quality and craftsmanship and this doesn’t necessarily mean that I have to buy from a big brand, there are a lot of amazing independent brands to choose from
Brilliant video. I knew that Chanel liked white but I didn't realise how much. It's interesting that the time Coco spent with the Duke of Westminster in Scotland inspired her tweed collection.
Me neither, it was something very new I discovered about her
Do Longchamp le pliage bags go on sale? I love the green one and would like to buy it but so far the price is quite steep 😢
I think some colours and models of the Pliage do go on sale, usually the special editions. Not sure about the “classic” colours and models. Maybe also try resale?
@@PinkLookbook thank you for replying, I will keep looking for sales 😊
@@siddiquaalibhai6312 ☺️
I watched the video of his haute couture 2024/25 collection before watching this video so I had some knowledge of his style of designing. I instantly thought of Schiaparelli and also Fornasetti, I know that's not fashion but the imagery... I am really lost for words now, I just have one word to say WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ So amazingly beautiful the details moved me to tears 😢 Thank you for this Liz 🥰
Oh yes, you are right, Fornasetti, I can see that! I think he is one of the few who really understands how to bridge fashion and art
Anyone else here researching for their girlfriend?
Nothing wrong about being old, darling 😂 Don't cringe, love yourself no matter how old 💖
