i fractured my radial head last month, care now almost let me leave as “elbow sprain” because the xrays were so bad. luckily i was ubering so i just sat in the waiting room for 20 mins and they called me back and told me it was fractured and put me in a splint. i went to the texas joint institute and retook the xrays and honestly thought they were going to tell me i was being dramatic and it wasn’t broken 😂 only for him to look me straight in my face and say “no, it’s pretty gnarly” it was fully displaced and fractured. i had surgery about 2 weeks ago now, got the radial head fully replaced. and i still don’t have a good range of motion at all.. starting physical therapy next week but can only afford one session so here i am trying to figure out how to get my arm to work the right way again 😂 wish me luck

On Tuesday 23rd july 2024 i had surgery on both wrists which had been crushed during a bad fall. I had bilateral distal radius repair using y plates and screws. The pain was awful and post op pain was equaly bad. Around 9 hours after surgery fluid started leaking from the scar on my left arm. Initially clear then Pink then mixed with fresh blood. It was very frightening but surgeon managed to stop the fluid/blood leak and its been dry since. Its awful having both arms in casts as it inhibits my ability to do simple everyday things like wash, dress, visit toilet, prepare food/drinks etc. the pain is becoming more managable and im ensuring i keep my fingers moving and elevate my arms when possible. Its difficult to find a sleeping position that is comfortable for both arms but im sure that will get easier with time. Has anyone else had bilateral distal radius repairs and if so do you have any advice regarding coping with everyday tasks, pain managment and best ways to rest my arms. Many thanks for reading

I lost 20 percent of downward extension and cant fully flex tricep. i can rotate wrist again, no surgery yet but pain is finally gone for the most part after a month and a half since breaking it and working in a coal mine 4 day later lol

I will say keeping it moving is essential but over working like I did to keep my job was the main reason the pain didn't subside much from the initial pain intensity, no pain pills after 1.5 weeks really helped get used to the pain

Hello, Dr. Richards. Thank you for this video! Just want to make sure I am doing the exercise correctly. When I try to do the exercise I feel pressure in my elbow which my doctor told me to avoid. When you say “push through the pain” is this the pain you are talking about? Is there supposed to be discomfort in the elbow itself? Thank you!

Hey I have a question, So I broke my humorous bone a few years ago. And it was also a fracture of the growth plate. Now that I got older in seing that my arm that I broke is shorter and my arms seem uneven. I think my limb is shorter than my other one I was wondering if there anyway to help this?

I’m 10 weeks into the recovery process for a schaphoid fracture after a bike accident - I was in a cast for 10 weeks and have “graduated” to a splint for 2 more weeks. Latest X-ray looked good so I’m almost done, but that stupid little bone is a real pain in the butt to deal with. I did a lot of walking in the early stages of my recovery, which maintained my sanity & got the blood flowing & also started stationary bike a week or so ago. Hang in there - it will get better eventually but you need to be patient!

Would you consider a 4mm displaced radial neck fracture a candidate for surgery? Or would allow it to heal naturally with physical therapy?

Bro I fractured my radial head in like 2023 and could move my arm at all. Took me 3 days to get to the Dr, they told me to give it a week (even though my elbow was swollen like a baseball), went to urgent care after a week, xrayed, x ray couldn’t see it, so I was scheduled to get an mri which took another almost month, mri showed the fracture which was already almost healed but still swollen like a baseball, then I was made to go to physical therapy for 3 weeks. Now my elbow still hurts sometimes, especially when picking up heavy objects. It was the worst pain I’ve ever felt

34 and I fell on uneven sidewalk ended up in Urgent Care. Just tried bending my knuckles and said OWW!! Thursday seeing Orthopedic to get it out of sling and into cast. I'm tempted to get an arm sling to hold my arm in place as it constantly hurts nonstop. X Rays showed I have a fracture snuff box???

I was given conservative management having suffered a complex butterfly fracture. Almost three weeks of severe pain until the follow up X-ray which showed increased damage. I can’t express how much better I feel now that I’ve had a pin inserted through the bone. Only 4 days post op, still in pain, but I’d recommend the plate/pin…… it’s a nasty injury!

What about 11 year olds with a buckle fracture? What is an ETA on when they can catch a baseball again or swing a bat? Poor son had a bike incident right before opening day for little league and travel ball. If there is no pain or can handle pain, what are the risks that those 2 actions can cause it to break more or injure it more after 4 weeks? Sadly ortho hasn't given us much info/direction.

My 8 yr old just broke his right at the bottom of the bone at the top of the arm right at the end by the elbow, it went to the opposite side so his bone looked twisted and his nerves stretched. He had surgery and 2 pins put in He didn't scream or cry and he can't cross his fingers or do a thumbs up yet he's got nerve damage hopefully it heals, it's been 2 weeks still nothing. The ER left his arm hanging for 2 hours before giving his arm any stability. I took him to children's which said they shouldn't of allowed his arm to hang that way his elbow was in the front of the arm. He flipped over his handle bars that's how the injury happened, the Drs said it's a very severe injury. He's been so positive throughout this entire ordeal, I'm in aww of him. The fact he didn't cry or scream ever, and I kept waiting for it and it never came, they said he was in shock. He walked home with his after it happened came in calm like I broke it ik it's broke, I freaked out and I tried not to but seeing your child that way is unbelievable.
