Roads home

Roads home

Hi, we are Mark & Sioux. Our channel is about everything campervan/motorhome and full time vanlife, travel and adventure. We want to encourage people to get out and explore and enjoy the outdoors more. Not just in the UK but also Europe. we want to inspire you to travel and see places, to have the confidence to take on new adventures. I hope to do this by giving you a small insight into trips we've made. I'm no expert, I'm just finding my way like you could. When I first got my motorhome I wasn't really sure where to go in it. We didn't want to sit on a camp site plugged into mains. That's not adventure. So don't just watch the videos. Go and have the adventure. Our hobbies are spearfishing and bushcraft along with a few others that will be included in my videos. Ok let's stop the boring stuff click a video.

    As is so often the case the councils have got their head in the sand and are absolutely missing a trick. We need a system like the camping car parks in France, where the local are very welcoming because you pay a small fee, you spend money in their shops and restaurants and give something back to the community. I also watched your video from Morecambe….i just don’t get it. I live a stones throw from Morecambe. There is so much room to have some designated Motorhome park ups which would help avoid confrontation and bring some money into the resort….which to be honest is well needed it has become so sadly run down.

    Almost everywhere in France and Spain you can park, empty your toilet and fill up with water for free. This means visits spend more in local shops because they park, travel around locally have a few beers, and are made to feel welcome and generally come back time and again. Probably with this country is the council want to charge way to much so tourists don't want to stay longer than necessarily. If we had better weather in the UK the councils could do it. We just don't get consistent good weather.

    Right both vehicles were in the incorrect place. The pick up had room on his near side (. Although he is used to taking up all the room him self ). The blue car driver obviously does not know the width of own car and trying to drive in middle of road. Both times you were very close to your side (. I’m now sailing off a load of salt pots as only have salt pots ). Unfortunately there are to many drivers on the roads who are unable to drive for the situation and without due care and can not anticipate what is happening right in front of them

    Thanks its nice just to hear it from someone else. I've watch the video a few times to decide if I were also in the wrong but other than stop to wait for the 4x4 to pass me I couldn't do anything else. Old dear had a few better choices to make stop sooner and give me more room or more over 🤔 the 4x4 guy getting out to mouth off was a big no no. He's lucky I didn't take the bait.

    New sub here . Good to finally hear a channel prepared to discuss the trespass laws and its effects on van life. I tried bringing this up on some big channels in 2020 but no one wanted to know . There is 100% an attack on alternate lifestyles, I've been living in my van 12 yrs , it's never been harder or as expensive and there is definitely a stigma these days, more so if your a solo male . I've also seen the other side , the part time van jokers that leave human and dog waste and rubbish and broken glass etc , sickening . If you are thinking of getting into it think carefully beforehand.

    As far as I'm concerned I'm not a driver but under my judgement both mishaps were not your fault. First one Mr egotistical clearly had room to get through plus move over 4 wheel drive . The 2nd one small car should have kept over they side but are likely the scared types so scared when they drive round a corner they need a plum line to do so :)

  • @Roadshome
    @Roadshome6 күн бұрын

    I can forgive the old dear in blue car. She was following the centre line, yes, poor driving, but a lot of old people do it. The 4x4 guy had plenty of room and could have moved over. The speed he got out, the car said he wanted confrontation but wasn't counting on someone who would stand-up for themselves. I've watched the video back myself and I didn't have any more room on my side, he did. Cheers for your comment and support 👍 Timothy.

    These travellers are just a pain. My partner and I were returning from Kirkby Stephen, on the road which eventually takes you to Sedbergh. We spotted a gypsy caravan and 2 horses, pulled into a lay-by around 200 meters in front of us, with the guy sorting the horses reins out etc. We were on a very long straight section of road, with nothing behind us as far as we could see, yet he still led the horses and caravan straight out into the road in front of us...... Sheer ignorance. As we continued driving towards Sedbergh, we often saw piles of rubbish left at the side of the road, where they'd stopped overnight.

  • @Roadshome

    Sorry but if you followed the law you would know, what is the order of priority on the road is ? As you are not aware I'll tell you. Pedestrian, followed by bicycle, horse, motorcycle, car, HGV. You should give 1.5m room when passing, if you don't have that space you don't pass. The horse has priority over car drivers. The horse was around before the car. Is more at risk.

Also tips on keeping animals cool in a van ? and how do your dogs cope with the heat? asking for tips for the future thanks. if you both had a choice what season would you choose to pick as your favorite in van life and in which country? i.e. summer in Spain ,winter in Spain ? which is the hardest season as in comfort, cost, weather , economy in van life and why?? is van life cheaper in summer than winter?? this would make a brilliant topic for a live vlog or just a vlog. sorry we love asking questions for the future. With all due respect there's a huge difference between poor animal husbandry and humans driving cars. Animals have no say in how they are treated and are at the mercy of their owners. As humans, if we take the decision to drive, we thus accept the risks involved.

  • @Roadshome
    @Roadshome10 күн бұрын

    What I am saying is it was only 2 out of a few hundred. There were plenty of very well cared for animals. It's not fair to punish all the good owners because of 2 bad. There are many horse that die in the grand national each year. We haven't banned horse racing because of it. The bad owners are ones who need punishment.

    Shame on the authorities who dug up the grass verges, where the travellers used-to pull onto. It’s creating more problems. Which is what they want. Maybe a fee could be paid by each caravan/van to pull onto a meadow for the night. The farmer/land owner would make a few bob for his trouble. A solution could be reached.

    What give them the right to just go on private land 🤔😡

  • @Roadshome
    @Roadshome10 күн бұрын

    No one gave them the right. They were told bu police to move from the roadside. So the only place to move to was the field. Once on the field they were told to move back to the road. Like you saw the video, even the police didn't like what they were having to do and could see the frustration created. It would be easier to allow them on the verges where they have stopped in the past. Then no private land would be trespassed on.
