I have seen travelers in Worcestershire for many years now there are always in Redditch roundabout at Christmas every year they never leave rubbish around and when I worked for Redditch council and I used to give them bags for there rubbish and it was always bagged up and the land was tidy the horses kept the grass down they don't cause any trouble it's other types of travellers in caravans who make the trouble and everybody else gets treated bad and it's a really a shame I always slow down and give room to anybody with horses

Pretty simple really, isn't it ? If it's private land, it doesn't belong to you, therefore you have no right to park on it. Would they like it if someone set up camp in their back garden ?

I have 5 acres and really owning land is nothing like having a large back garden. I remember hearing once the expression “you cannot own land, the land owns you”. I now understand what that means. As long as people are treating land with respect and not causing damage, I don’t have a problem with people using part of my land temporarily.

Only vardas horse drawn are allowed now ,police are forcing other trailers towed by cars diverting them away from Appleby to eg Kirby Stephen etc. it’s about Ancient Customs and it’s only for a few days . So if there are disruptions it’s very brief and temporary . Leave them alone .

Most of them get tarred with the same brush and stuck with in a lot of cases an undesirable stigma. I agree Appleby residents do get their lives disrupted during the annual Appleby travellers fair but the fair is a very old tradition, its part of British heritage and it’s part of the deal choosing to live in Appleby and let’s be honest the boost to the local economy brought by the fair isn’t to be sniffed at.

Wherever you go and stay your site has to be cleaned up properly before any local person can enjoy it again and that takes time and effort and money. It pisses me off the way people are treated whoever they are , if they do not conform to living in a brick by house , I feel the injustice and no one stands up for them or speaks out for them , there is a growing culture now of car and van life as a choice of living because they can’t afford a home , give them space to stay along routes and let them show you they leave it better than when they arrive why should they set an example when treated so badly .

I live near Appleby, and it’s an absolute nightmare every year, from racing horses and buggies down the high street, going thru temp traffic lights on red, and causing major disruption, not to mention the shanty towns set up on every grass verge, and the rubbish left behind for us to clean up, complete disregard for the communities they travel through. I’m sure there are many decent law abiding travellers, but in my experience most of them are not!

Thank you although I have had runins with Gypsy's on more than one occasion. Alas some groups around Newark are not friendly and very criminal. I do defend good well behaved travellers and Gypsy's. Also the facts that we are all in the same boat as they bring in the 15 minute cities it's all related and it is going to get tighter as they aim continue their aims of depopulation and herd everyone into these hunger game cities. So we need to all join together to defend our rights and freedoms and also do our own Policing against those elements who are criminal.

Unfortunately the government passed a new law that now makes it possible for any person , parish council , local council , or County council to remove any traveller ( genuine Gypsy , so said gypsy , van travellers , Motorhome travellers etc etc ). Reason on this that the countryside have been trashed by travellers as they turn up on a Wednesday night , making the councils have to give them 48hrs notices but only after having to check that all their people are ok and schooled , then the clock starts Then the weekend, than then the councils have to get a court order for them to be removed. That is Monday gone ! Court order Tuesday 24hrs to move ie Wednesday ! They have to move on to another place to park and totally trash . Human excrement everywhere , in the streams, what they have left , tin cans rubbish everywhere, The place has to be chemically cleaned before re opening to public or residents. The cleaning can take 3 - 4 days. All at great cost due to some very dirty careless travellers One again due to some everybody suffers.

The council like the government work for the people. That's me and you, but most of the time, they make rules that suit themselves so they make profit. Appleby has been a traveller fair since 1685 and a horse fair since 1785. It's not new. Locals have bought houses in the nice quiet town, liking what they see but now want to make that town suit themselves. Its traditions we should all be proud of. What next ? forget those who died in the wars who fought for our freedom. Cos that's all the travellers want. Freedom to Rome and travel.

All depends where the caravans came from and if they were paid for from the rightful owners in the first place.. There's plenty of caravan parks around Kirkby Lonsdale that would benefit from an income every year but they just want to park for free in fields and the roadside. They have more than enough money to pay for a few nights a year to stay in caravan parks and campsites so why not just put your caravans where they're supposed to be and be respectful whilst being on the campsites.. Police wouldn't even see the caravans on campsites and would have no reason to confiscate them if they weren't breaking any laws

The fair was established in 1775. Anyone who owns land or has a house in that town either bought it knowing the history or in some very rare cases, their ancestors made money from the fair to buy the land they now own. In any case those who have had ancestors who made the purchases should be part of its tradition. It's their history, too. Those who have come from outside and moved in recent times knowing the history and have no right to moan.

That is so interesting , your DNA via your father could be connected to the Gypsies which means Egypt 🇪🇬 Egyptian . From Southern Israel like Ovda in Egypt. Twins Jacob and Esau warred because Jacob bought Esaus Birthright for a Pottage. Esau was later known as The Father of the Edomites. When realising what Jacob had done Esau wept bitterly crying to Isaac “Bless thou me oh my father hast thou not preserved even one blessing for me”. (Genesis) his father said his reward was in the hills and mountains wandering. There was a nuclear fall out and the Egyptians 🇪🇬 ended up heading for India 🇮🇳. There are many many Gypsy Tribes in Egypt , e.g Jats , kumbis etc , but especially the Lamani Tribes from the hills and mountains. The women wear gold coins as jewels and headdresses. They are very tall like the Spanish Flamenco 💃 dancers . Whereas the kumbis are protected , tiny , live on an island and wear no clothes, they are fierce. Some of the Jats are small and settled in Gudjerat etc . They evolved and transmigrated to Europe. Forming their own individual similarities and Gypsy language . But one Indian 🇮🇳 feminine word Phen/Pen for sister , tends to be Universal. A bit like Kushty and Covva ,your Covva can mean to be a lot of things. The Psalmist said in reference to Gypsies “Over Israel I have cast my shoe”. Hence a real Gypsy will always Gel/Throw a shoe on The Romany Rye. I have a very rare book by George Barrow called the Romany Rye - The Way- it is worth a lot of money now. So I don’t think anybody could afford to buy it. I think he was around the time of the Theological Bailey Brothers , Theologians from the Scottish Borders who gave succour to Gypsies around the time of Hitler . Over 3 Million Gypsies were massacred and in Concentration Camps because of ‘their bad blood’ like Ferdinand and Isabella. Gypsies have always been oppressed but refuse to be so any longer.

These travellers are just a pain. My partner and I were returning from Kirkby Stephen, on the road which eventually takes you to Sedbergh. We spotted a gypsy caravan and 2 horses, pulled into a lay-by around 200 meters in front of us, with the guy sorting the horses reins out etc. We were on a very long straight section of road, with nothing behind us as far as we could see, yet he still led the horses and caravan straight out into the road in front of us...... Sheer ignorance. As we continued driving towards Sedbergh, we often saw piles of rubbish left at the side of the road, where they'd stopped overnight.

Sorry but if you followed the law you would know, what is the order of priority on the road is ? As you are not aware I'll tell you. Pedestrian, followed by bicycle, horse, motorcycle, car, HGV. You should give 1.5m room when passing, if you don't have that space you don't pass. The horse has priority over car drivers. The horse was around before the car. Is more at risk.

The Irish Smiths are the oldest Gypsies, so have the right to be crowned King of the Gypsies. There are different Tribes of Smiths from Yorkshire not just one type. Originating from Ireland.

The sacred custom of hospitality was a divine right of guests and a divine duty of hosts. All strangers without exception, were under the protection of Zeus Xenios - the god of strangers and suppliants. A violation of hospitality was likely to provoke the wrath of Gods lincluding Nemesis, Celtic tradition I believe was similar. The funny thing is, when the punishment happens, no one realizes why. That's why hostility to travelers exists.

the fair has been going on for over a hundred years, i feel that the people and police have no right to stop it. I expect all the people that live there think that they own the place, they shoukd not live there if they are not preparded for this tradition to take place.

Its a shame its come to this but there is a fair amount of travellers causing trouble at the fair , they arent the people they once were. The trotting races at home farm had to move date because of the trouble caused which was a great shame as many people like to combine the two events. Just because a gate isnt locked doesnt mean you can enter or should we all lock our drive gates . At the end of the day they have spoilt it for themselves.

There are plenty places to stop along the way. Councils have blocked them by either stone or ploughing. If turn up hoping to stop where they have in the past and find it's blocked then as they say council gave caused the problem for them.
