    What was that bug that you said was the culprit for laying the eggs? It looked like a moth? I have seen a lot of those come out of the grass when I am watering. I just thought they were moths of some kind.

  • @TheHighlanderLawn

    To date every dethatcher I have purchased comes with a bagger. But they are honestly an absolute waste of time to try and use them. There’s too much debris. It will fill up in 3 seconds flat.

    Just bought but the 90 degree and anything less than 90 degree similar to the corners of your inner driveway did not work very well. Coverage without going greater than 90 degrees was poor. The middle 180 degree ones work great. Traded them back out. Wanted them to work… corners seem to be an issues.

    Hi. Have a question. I'm in Michigan with very sandy soil. Is there a benefit to putting down the RPR / HGT Bluegrass combo or just seed with RPR and then overseed this fall with the HGT Bluegrass? I should have my irrigation system functioning by early July. It's probably too late for Bluegrass seed, right?

  • @Tsargents2
    @Tsargents225 күн бұрын

    I also plan to put down 3 inches of topsoil before I seed with the RPR in July.

  • @TheHighlanderLawn
    @TheHighlanderLawn24 күн бұрын

    It is possible to seed in July with KBG. But you are then committing to watering like a “crazy person” 🤣🤣to keep that seed damp enough to push germination and for a couple of weeks thereafter to maintain the seedling development . I love my Turf Blue Pro with the RPR combine, I put down. I have also repeated it on 3 others yards this year and we are seeing amazing results. I have not used the HGT KBG but have heard great things about it. So bottom line…you can seed in the heat of July…it’s not easy and will take more attention to the moisture level and obviously MORE water. You can also Pre-germinate the KBG (as long as it’s not coated with the Yellowjacket coating.) I put out a video on that in 2022 in my ugly lawn series for that year. Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

    This happens usually every year at this time. People get in "dethatching mode" and they wipe out most inventories. The LawnMaster was not impressive at all. Where is the fix damage to your lawn part? Do I have to pull the lawn up? Can I bring the damaged part back? Please don't put it in the tag line if you have no answers. Waste of my time.

  • @TheHighlanderLawn
    @TheHighlanderLawn2 ай бұрын

    There are usually 3 methods that can work. 1 - remove the dead material and allow it to repair itself. (This is the longest dependent on the size of damage) 2 - remove dead material and re-seed using a little topsoil or peat moss whilst keeping it damp. 3 - remove the dead material and place some sod plugs depending on how large the damage is. The damage will repair itself if the pests are eliminated. Grass is amazingly resilient and will work its way back, given everything it needs. Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

    I think my problem is that I didn’t get all the leaf litter under my shrubs in my beds. I think that they live under that leaf debris throughout the winter and in the spring they come up and feast

  • @TheHighlanderLawn
    @TheHighlanderLawn2 ай бұрын

    It is very likely. I have done quite a bit of research, since this video. I have come across data that states that they will also live in the lawn but move to the shrubs as they have more sap to draw from. I have seen results from several people that have used ladybugs, but they tend to fly off eventually, but love to snack on them. I have also seen Neem oil can work well, and I intend to try it in conjunction with the insect and mite killer. There was also a highly recommended use of diatomaceous earth which was stated to be very effective. I will be trying this and doing a video on the results. Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

I fumble around when the format of the program changes, I get too picky about transitions, fades, titles, and so on. But I have certainly thought about it. But I will always use movie clips for levity in my vids. I have had a few folks that are negative about it, but all I tell them is "To thine own self be true" or "I gotta be me!!" LOL. In some ways it does make the job easier. But getting the water right (overhauling the irrigation system) and getting the yard rehabbed is no walk in the park. After that the maintenance is much easier. Most folks don't think 10- 20 years out when they landscape their yards. Trees are great, but they should be placed with a little forethought on how it can negatively impact the yard in the future. And if they are just shifted and moved they can enjoy the trees, the yard and the whole experience much better. Thank you for your comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

    I meant to tell you also that I really enjoy your videos! If I may ask, before I found your channel, I had purchased K-Rain adjustable nozzles. After your video's I'm wondering if I made a mistake. I've changed the side row of mister bodies with hunters and planning in the next week or so to flush them out and attach the k rain nozzles. I live in NJ so it's still been cold and haven't turned on the sprinklers yet . Can I ask your opinion on the K Rain nozzles and should I bite the built and just purchase Hunter MP nozzles. The area is just a stretch on the side of my house with 9 misters that I need to shoot out 11 ft. Much appreciated.

  • @TheHighlanderLawn
    @TheHighlanderLawn2 ай бұрын

    Thank you very much!! In regards to the K Rain nozzles. I do personally believe that K Rain , R Van and Toro's version are all "always imitated...never duplicated". Now I have never used them in an installation and done an honest comparison. (And speaking of that....I probably should.) So I can't 100% say that they are not worth your time and money. I have seen the R Van's in action, and was not very impressed, they seem cheap and I have heard that they break down easily. I will tell you that if you are doing a swap or retro of a "side of (your) house" with K Rain, make sure that the entire zone is the same style of nozzle. For example I have seen people mix and match rotary nozzles with pop up sprays (fans), and then run them for the length of time in that zone that would be fine for a pop up to put out enough water, but no where near the time needed for a rotary to do it's job. I only know the spec's on MP's and pop up fans because I use them as a comparison. So make sure the entire zone or area you are running them on are all the same type of nozzle otherwise I would not be surprised to hear "I hate these they suck" and as I usually state: "The reason you hate them is because you don't understand them and how they work!" Sorry for the novel. I hope that helps.

    My apologies for not responding earlier. I have been crazy busy the last 3 months that I have been a little neglectful to responding to comments. Q4 can be very finicky in certain temps. I find that if your daytime temps tend to be lower than 60 F it can really SLOW down its effectiveness because overnight it can get into the 30-40’s. This also keeps your soil temps below 55 F. Also as mentioned in the video anything above 85 F daytime highs can cause damage to the turf when it is applied. So you have a window to apply, depending on where you live. In regards to reapplying I believe it is 4-6 weeks before reapplying. I hope this helps. Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

    I used to work in plastic injection molding., even though I was a material handler. It looks like you have the right idea about plastic welding this back together. Like you said, use the same material, that way it keeps it all consistent.

    My apologies for not responding earlier. I have been crazy busy the last 3 months and I have been a little neglectful to responding to comments. Been remodeling my daughter's recently purchased home. Yes I had done some serious research to try and figure out what would work best, and the majority of what I found was "use the same material that the item is made of", so that's where I came up with using itself to make the repair...it's not quite cannibalism, but ......maybe!! LOL Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

    My apologies for not responding earlier. I have been crazy busy the last 3 months and I have been a little neglectful to responding to comments. Been remodeling my daughter's recently purchased home. No worries. I am going to be doing a handful of "giveaways" this year. So look for those by subbing and hitting that notification bell. Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.

    Thanks so much for the video. How did you cut the plastic off the side of the wheelbarrow please?

    My apologies for not responding earlier. I have been crazy busy the last 3 months and I have been a little neglectful to responding to comments. Been remodeling my daughter's recently purchased home. I used a fresh blade in my utility knife and very carefully cut the edge off the wheelbarrow edge, and then of course, used itself to repair. I am sorry for the delay in responding. That is on me. Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.
