The new vinyl is awesome ❤. Much better than the old one
Matthew, that album is marvellous: amazing Jazz, very good sound (ECM), beautiful edition [gatefold with photos]; brillant in my collection, as other by Mr. Waldrom: "Reminicent suite" (BBE). Special, very special vinyls. Happy day and night, there, in Alabama, from Madrid, Spain.
Oh my goodness Mathew. I can't believe you are reviewing this recording. I purchased it in October 2019 and just re-spun it yesterday. My copy is absolutely spotless and silent. A wonderful album.
Yes, it's a great sounding record. Thanks for coming by!
Thank you Mattew, I just discovered this great band with your video 😉 Amazing individual talents with a powerful sound and delicacy in the same time. Incredible technique, there is a real alchemy in this band. A pure gem. I just ordered the lp Jeff from FRANCE
Awesome! I am glad at least one person appreciates it!
@@bellisariosonic I appreciate your unboxing videos too, and your enthusiasm for the very beautiful sound 😊 I received today the Analog Productions lp's, INXS and Bad Company. It's pure pleasure on my Yamaha 5000 system 😉
@@jeffcostello2174 Wow nice system! Do you have the amp, turntable and speakers?
@@bellisariosonic Yes absolutely. I have this complete Yamaha 5000 system. Amp, preamp, speakers and turntable. Amazing sound with the Audioquest cables + Audioquest PowerQuest 707 conditioner.
@@jeffcostello2174 Thats an awesome system. Hopefully, I can upgrade my system at some point.
0:34 2014 would have been the 55th anniversary, not the 75th …
That is the name of the Blue Note series not for the album.
@@bellisariosonic oops …
Pop albums on 45 rpm is ridiculous.
@@edc.3761 this one sounds fabulous!
Ah, the world of the malcontent...complaining about 45's. "There are no solutions, only compromise's" Thomas Sowell
There was a tower records on the main Street in Leeds UK back in the day.
Absolutely fantastic, improvisation for classical guitar is such a rare and unexplored territory. This aspect of guitar artistry opens up new expressive horizons, allowing musicians to showcase their creativity in unique and personal ways. Knowing harmony is very important, as improvisation requires a deep understanding of technique and musical theory.
Recently came across your channel and so appreciate hearing many samples of this release. I can certainly hear a difference even through my tablet speakers I’m watching this on, the awful sibilance from previous releases is gone! I will definitely be picking this up, thanks so much.
Great thanks for stopping by!
Very cool review
Mine sounds awesome. Absolutely Rockin
Wonderful Chanel ❤
Claudio Quartarone is criminally underrated. He is one of the greatest improvisers I know. This interview is a gem!
@@alessandromeneghin3888 thanks I hope more people recognize his gift!
Hey Matthew, and thanks for the video. In a future video, would you quickly describe your method of cleaning a new record? It looks like a simple wipe with a (microfiber?) cloth.
This is a good Bad Company album but never has been a favorite of theirs for me. It's not quite as good as the debut album in my opinion, but my favorite Bad Co. album is Desolation Angels, and I am eager for the Acoustic Sounds 75th Atlantic Anniversary pressing of it.
Talk about bringing back some memories! This album has songs that are still on my playlist!
♥
Grandissimo!
Great review! The moment you put that needle down, memories of seeing INXS in concert in DC. One of the best concerts I have ever seen and I have seen many!
Nice review! When I was in high school, I saw INXS touring on this record at the BJCC. Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers were the opening act. The album production is quite bright, but nearly everything was recorded that way at that time. Very good bunch of songs, I think.
Getting the hybrid sacd can't wait but wow I hear the difference not even close the AP is on a different level of clarity, and beautiful details in the guitars, drums, and bass .
Would you be interested in reviewing or playing my latest solo piano album. It was released in May this year on the DiscusMusic label. I've played recorded with most of the British improvisers, Parker, Watts, Tippett, Riley, and have a 30 year history of performing throughout Europe, N.America and Brazil.🎹🙂
Hi Stephen send me a link to your music and I’ll check it out. Did you release it on vinyl?
Always enjoy your reviews! The Atlantic releases are very good but I will pass on these latest releases I never got into INXS and I was disappointed in the first Bad Company release they did
A stereo recording can also be a pair of mics placed in any number of patterns in a room. So the drums could have 2 or three mics panned center. Bass with mic panned center. Piano with 1 or two mics panned center and a pair of room mics panned left and right. Those early hard panned records were panned hard to demonstrate ‘stereo’. Im an engineer and we could spend hundreds of hours defining what ‘stereo’ is. But after all- shouldnt it be about the music? The recording and performance?. Is everything clear? Yes.
I got both the Wojtek records from this RSD. Was a fantastic choice. It’s definitely Spiritual, but its ingredients are somewhat different… nicely executed
Excellent video, Matthew. I agree 100% with you. In the last few years I’ve been buying a lot more current jazz. As with all music, there is a huge amount of really good new stuff out there. One just has to search for it. I am either familiar with or have most of the records that you showed. Emmet Cohen kept my sanity thru the pandemic with his live shows from his apartment. I’ll just throw out some of my buys that I think are worthy…. “Skalpel/Big Band Live”…Polish jazz “Seismic Shift” by John Escreet….piano trio, pretty intense much of the time. Jamie Branch’s last LP (or any of hers) “Shamal Wind” by Chip Wickam…. Arthur Hnatek Trio “Static” EABS Meets Jaubi “In Search of a Better Tomorrow”…(Polish jazz meets Pakistani music ….very interesting) “Liminal Space” by Ill Considered…New British jazz I also have pre ordered Reflections of Purple Sun” by EABS. I look forward to more of your new purchases. Have a good one!
@@williamnow146 awesome thanks for these recommendations. I’ll give them a listen. I’m sure I’ll be happy but my wallet will probably be crying! Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
@@bellisariosonic Yes, your vids are not helping my wallet either!!
Sounds great
You have me so psyched for A75 Kick to arrive tomorrow! Fun listening and ty for sharing...sounds rad.
First off, two great releases.INXS was at thier pinnacle when this album, a masterpiece, propelled them into the stratosphere!
Vocals sound amazing
my mom is a huge fan of this record, thinking of buying this for her birthday soon lol
I have the OJC Bill Evans and they are enough for me . I’m sure the 45 rpm would sound better but then again will mess with the flow . I’m Australian and InXs are easily our greatest ever band . Michael Hutchence was a brilliant frontman and had an incredibly soulful and powerful voice . Such great use of the saxophone .
Sounds great and my should arrive next week!
Nice review. I have the 33 rpm 75th version on clear vinyl. A bit more in my price range lol but it does sound really good. Not a big fan of the 45 rpm as I think it spoils the flow of the album.
Excellent album, Matthew. I have it in a box of three compact discs. Fresh sound, not very good, but is alive. I love it. Thanks from Madrid, Spain.
Hey Matthew and thanks for reminding me of Don Ellis and his unique approach to jazz. You provoked me to take out "Shock Treatment" and "Electric Bath" both on the Columbia label and give them a listen. I haven't done so in 40+ years, and it was both fun and enlightening. Good stuff!
Jaki Byard was such a versatile pianist, perfect for this date
Yes I've done the same thing and assumed albums were stereo ! But I'm glad I wasn't aware as I would have missed out on too much great music.
Mathew, another excellent segment. I purchased 2 copies of this Don Ellis recording last year. Both copies proved to be defective. The pressings for both were terrible and I returned both and tossed in the towel. So disappointing because the music, arrangements and performances are wonderful. But, after seeing your video and you didn't indicate any pressing problems, I decided to try a third time and ordered another copy. Fingers are crossed. However, I have had a lot of pressing and defect issues with several of these new Candid releases since last year.
I hope you get a good one this time. Mine was a good pressing. I had one small pop and another minor crackle but nothing major. I agree. The Candid pressings have not been stellar. Let me know how you fare when it comes.
It should arrive in a few days. Sure thing. I'll let you know if the 3rd copy is a keeper!
Mathew, you are not going to believe this, Strike 3. Yes, the 3rd copy is defective! To start, Amazon threw the LP loosely inside of a large box without packing material. Of course, the jacket was badly damaged and bent all over. As for the record itself, a chunk of the lead-in groove is broken off and missing. Thank goodness I noticed it, as it could have ripped the stylist from the cartridge if played. I have requested yet a 4th copy, which is expected to arrive this coming Monday. We shall see. But, should the 4th arrive defective, I'm done.
@@TonyHarrison-dk1ey wow that is crazy! Three bad copies. I must have hit a good one out of the batch. As far as packing goes we know Amazon is a crapshoot. I hope #4 works out. If not I guess it’s not meant to be!
I think Don Ellis was the backup artist that Charles Mingus got in a fist fight with
Oh I never heard that story before. LOL
I've given up on buying used records on line, only in person. The problem is most online sellers on Ebay are not collectors, just flippers. And also, they don't know how to packages records to prevent damage.
All Prestige albums were in mono up to April/May 1958.
I have the OJC press of Workin' with Miles Davis. Might have to get this one too.
Nice shootout but I wish you could have done a direct recording. The ambient microphone approach just doesn’t cut it.
I listened to it and I can hear the difference fine. Sorry it's not up to your standards. Thanks for coming by.
Good call on Rory Gallagher.
Any Columbia “6-eye” that I can find that is clean I pick up Also I have gone crazy lately with Horace Silver - for whatever reason I can’t stop listening to “Tokyo Blues”
Ellington “Masterpieces” is a must have - it sounds like it is from a 1930’s speakeasy …. whoah! The Art Blakey line-up on “Indestructible” cannot be beat (pun intended) That Monty Alexander from Resonance is widely available (unlike most Resonance) - totally solid, he is originally from Jamaica Lots of great suggestions - thanks for sharing
I DONT KNOW THAT ALBUM IT SOUNDS GREAT
Decent album but it is no Misplaced Childhood. That is a masterpiece!
