I'd say go for it after moving here in 2021. People here appreciate it especially if you're a remote worker. Try it out first, go move to Eagle View like all the newbies do first then find a place, Nitro, Saint Albans, too! All the best!

🛑 Ignore all comments saying positive things about West Virginia. Please, pay attention to this guy and follow his advice. West Virginia is a piece of coal hiding a diamond and as a West Virginian we don’t need ruined. Go to Florida: beaches, sunny days, health care, good food….your love it.

Clearly, you did not do your homework. Jobs are in abundance in WV. Walk into almost ANY business and as you grab the door handle, you will see a “Help Wanted” sign. There are job fairs on a regular basis. Granted, the salaries are not always attractive, but there is no lack of available employment. And while the coal industry has declined, the oil & gas industry has skyrocketed beyond the previous coal employment opportunities. WV is a beautiful place to live, has endless recreational activities, rich resources, and overall is an affordable housing market when compared to other states. Dig a little deeper before bashing WV mistakenly.

I absolutely love West Virginia!!!! I live in Boone County. At one time this was probably one of the richest County in the state because of coal! Well all those coal companies have to pay taxes serverence money. This county should have money, but because of DIRTY politics we are now probably the poorest county…..this is another reason why people don’t like it here. But this is a wonderful, beautiful state, if you can put up with the politics, just saying

I live across the river from Parkersburg.. It is booming and has been for the last 50 years that I'm aware of.. 100k salaries are not uncommon.. We "hillbillies" love our simple lives here. We might not be "educated" but education has nothing to do with intelligence. You big city folks are going to be the first in line for the new gas chambers while us uneducated hicks are going to thrive.. We are ungovernable and that's his we like it

I can only make suggestions based on my experiences and I do not know you or your personality so please take this with a grain of salt. I suggest starting with bartering with your neighbors. Ask they if there is something that you can offer to do or help them or their friends. It will not take long before your name becomes casual. In addition, don't be afraid to as for help. A little humility goes a long way.

I hope you don't mind homeless. There are panhandlers around every corner on parts of the west side. If you don't have a parcel box at your house, odds are a vagrant will steel your package for your porch. You will see addicts blatantly doing drugs out in public and overdosing. Crazy people often walk along business areas and scream and cause a scene on a daily basis.

I've read many WV fan comments. Pure delusions. No wonder WV is a trump cult swamp just like any other craphole where abundant underclass is hooked on mass cult and drugs. Poor people is one thing. Poor people who are hooked on drugs and corporate lower class mass cult, poor people soaked in rightwing talk and having a list of must have pinkneck paraphernalia and status items is a totally different matter. Rural ghetto.

Believe it or not, some people want to move to West Virginia for exactly these 5 reasons that Debbie Downer stated in this video. We in the GenX generation grew up and prospered and got along just fine. No College, no Internet, no fancy roads, no fancy stores. Sometimes the most unappealing locales are the best in real life, in my opinion. The cost of living is still more affordable than either the West Coast or East Coast and more in tune with reality. Gimme a quiet street, a quiet porch and a sweet tea or lemonade, 'cus that's all you really need. That's the West Virginia we're looking to come to.

On the positive side, there are area of the state primarily in the eastern part of the state that are drop dead gorgeous. on the negative side, this is Trump country, education is not valued. politics are crooked as a dog's hind leg, religion has too strong a grip, not only internet but infrastructure in general is weak.. West Virginia is not homogeneous. There are semi metropolitan areas. 1. Morgantown/Fairmont area 2. Wheeling 3. Huntington and Charleston area. If you work in health care, there are job opportunities. The drug addition problems are legendary. Depression is pervasive.

Industrial decline? Stop believing internet BS and drive there yourself. Talk to the coal mining families that live there. The crippling of the coal industry is the direct result of the democrat party's attack on fossil fuels. Nothing else. Coal demand worldwide is still high. It is here too but is being stifled by one new regulation after another being forced upon coal producers to force them to shut down until common sense conservatives again are in charge. If you knew what you were actually looking at, and were old enough to have witnessed decades of left wing idiocy, you'd know by now that liberals jump from one cause to another. They climb aboard every new issue, crisis, movement, or idea that they can exploit for political gain and votes, and they ride it into the ground, milking it dry until the next thing comes along. And they don't care a twit about who they trample in the process. Years ago, the left was hell bent on exploiting these coal mining families by "organizing" them into powerful and influential unions. Unions where members paid union dues, a large portion of which went straight to the democrat party. Now that they've ridden that horse till it's lame, they've turned against these miners who've feathered their beds for decades. Now they view them as filthy trash with dirt under their fingernails. They have no further use for them, the folks they claimed they were fighting for. As for Virginia, my home state, it is a red state but for three small counties bordering on Washington D.C. These counties are Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William. Years ago, after liberal policies turned D.C. into a crime haven, liberal politicians began moving away, fleeing from the mess they'd made. Where did they go? Just over the state line into Fairfax County, VA. In a short time, word got around that there was cheap farmland to be had. In hoards, the liberals stampeded out of the capital into the three nearby counties. It didn't take long till they had taken over and completely changed the face of these counties as well as their political identity. Now, the liberals have not only taken over in numbers there, but have total control of local government and of the voting poll locations. And since you probably didn't find this in your "research", these three counties alone have changed Virginia from a red state to blue in the last several major elections. By land mass, our state is still more than 90% conservative. But by sheer influx of population into these three counties plus other factors, we have been corrupted. What other factors? These are among the locations in the country where shady things occur after voting polls close. Car loads of "misplaced" mail-in ballots suddenly appear, and keep appearing. Their is no oversight. No access allowed for monitoring. And instead of election results being known the night of the election, it now takes days before one, more, or all of these counties report their results. And their results, always reported last, even though their polls open first, change election results for the whole state from red to blue.

There are many beautiful areas in West Virginia, which is why I retired here. But typical native West Virginian is conservative, pro-Trump and deeply religious. If you aren't, you'll need to keep your mouth shut when you are among natives.

Even though you pay property taxes, Its hard to tell where the money goes when you are in the county. The only improvement I ever see are within Winchester city limits, other than that the only new stuff you will see in the county are new storage places, vape shops, or yet another gas station, mean while one grocery store chain has a stranglehold on the entire area and none of the lights are timed. Good luck if you need to cross over I-81. I live 2 miles from Lowes but it will take me 20 minutes to get there just trying to get through the 10 lights at the 37/81 interchange. If you have a kid and don't want them to go to class in a trailer, look somewhere else, our local government couldn't plan a kids birthday party.

We found that living here as a disabled/retired veteran is about the only ideal scenario. NOT other retirees (because of the limited healthcare). The VA system is isolated from the rest of the WV system. Their income comes from sources outside of WV. BUT problems arise when you add CHILDREN to the equation: eventually, your kids will have to LEAVE YOU/ THE STATE to pursue jobs/careers or YOU WILL HAVE TO MOVE WITH THEM. This is a problem my wife and I are currently preparing to face. Our children are only teenagers now, but eventually, they will need to move on to greener pastures.

Thank you for your intro - and the reinfocrcement of reminding the viewers to "do your own research". My wife is from the Panhandle and I've only visited - but never the other areas of your beautiful, and free, state. Looking forward to the rest of the video, and you'll be the first realtor we consider should we move to that region. One other video (dude drove a Tesla) was condescending (I know, ironic comment 😂) about the downtown and how it needed "revitalization" but didn't get out and explore - history, culture, and architecture of what seems to me relics of our nation. He didn't give the city a chance - and not much in aspects I wanted to discover. So, thank you for allowing me to see many apsects of this town!

The education one is a double edged sword. in the late 90s they passed the Promise Scholarship to try to enable more WV grads to go to college affordably. A lot of people got educated that way, however, because they did nothing to build up the economy, many of these people, ended up leaving the state.

If you think Income and Personal Property taxes are for you, this is the place for you. Great place to retire to, like my oldest brother and his wife and friends as you don't need a job. About the housing, can you say gentrification the easy way? Just don't build, older home that are not kept up, go away, the others value increases dramatically, brilliant. Sigh...
