I think Dickey was 35 at this time. His son Duane said it best recently that since he passed it has made his music just that much more precious. I agree 100%

I have the cd which also includes a DVD. It’s great of course, but what is kind of strange about this performance is that Mitchell Holman’s bass guitar was the only guitar used. No lead guitar. David LaFlamme could play guitar but didn’t for whatever reason.

Sounds good, sure, but I think the perfect summary of what was going on at the time and what we can perceive here is what Jon Lord himself said: it was a great band... but it wasn't Deep Purple any more, it was something else Tommy Bolin was a good guitar player but the DP thing just wasn't what he felt comfortable with. The initial solo in 'Burn' is quite telling. On the other hand, Coverdale, at least in this particular gig, wasn't in his best shape. The relentlless touring and the internal tensions, all of it in less than three years, have taken their toll Probably it would have been better to stop when Blackmore left, maybe take one or two years off the road, and then decide whether they wanted to go on, with Bolin or any other, refreshed and with clearer ideas But it didn't happen like that, which is why many people still have a bad opinion about Bolin, which is unfair because in the mid-70s he was a rising star and a good replacement for Blackmore, even Blackmore admitted it

Always remember when it was announced hughesy was joining purple, was in malta and so happy for him, then heard he was going to be secondary vocal to Coverdale, often wondered why, glenn hughes is big and strong enough on his own to front purple, think they would have been a monumental four piece 🤷♂️👍
