Instead of filling it with sand, just stick the fittings with a balltap valve on each end, and use water. Water, like sand, dosnt compress.

Should sleeve the outside with steel and fill it with sand instead of exhaust wrap. Sand is great and holding and distributing heat. Also the compression fittings need to be lubed with Vaseline to really work correctly.

I think to make this quicker we can use a 2L bottle with this same principle.

How about putting the coil of copper inside the exhaust? Be more efficient for sure.

I've delved a bit into this for heating an outside spa. One problem I found with having the copper pipe directly over the flame is after a few times it builds up a layer of soot over the pipe with makes it harder to heat in the long run

Tig weld this. If you use TIG, you can use thinner materials. Use a nickel based metal like inconel. Stainless steel rusts and doesn’t hold up well to the elements. Inconel can withstand higher temperatures for longer and you can leave it in saltwater and it won’t rust. Copper works great but if you’ve got the money, use titanium tube. It’s more difficult to shape but I made a titanium heat exchanger back in the day for a laser weapon and it’s amazing. You can find scrap inconel and titanium at aerospace companies. I work in aerospace and occasionally we give our metal away.

Can’t or really shouldn’t use compression fitting on soft copper, it’s to soft and won’t allow the compression ring to properly squeeze against the copper, if you really want to use compression fitting you need to sweat a coupler and a ridged piece of copper first, then install the compression fitting.

I had a bad experience with an Anker solar power pack. I had charged.for about a year I used it once now it doesn't charge at all by sun or usb. It's junk. I paid almost $50 bucks for one time use. I am not impressed.

@@PatrickRemington - Look I think it's awesome that KZreadrs try all kinds of projects and share their results. Sometimes those projects are good ideas and sometimes they aren't. You still provided entertainment, but i'm not going to pretend this is an improved design over existing commercially available shower bags. They run on gravity and are smaller/lighterweight to transport. How is this the "Best portable shower"?

  • @crazymonkeyVII

I don't get it. Why would you feed the output directly back into the input? There is a small amount of (I presume) very hot water that comes out and now goes back in to the colder water, heating that greater mass of water a little bit, while losing most of its elevated temperature. If you wanted to quickly heat water for usability, wouldn't you collect the water that comes out in a well isolated separate container and use it once you've got enough to make whatever you wanted to make with it or route it back to the cold tank or the input, rather than heating the whole cold tank? I don't care to know how long that barrel of water took to get to a certain temperature, I want to know how long it would take to make tea/coffee or take a shower. What's the flow rate necessary to get to a certain temperature?

I feel like you would have had better results with a 40’ coil. Could be wrong. Just felt like when you measured temps above where the coil ends you were losing a lot of heat exchange potential.

I had an intention to add a system to my would stove. However I was going to use a radiator. But now I can use a bucket instead and eliminate the pump. It would be good instead of waking up at night and add wood.
