This channel contain some video's about my hobby of model building. I have a wide variety of interests and tend to mostly build cars, planes and SciFi.
I started building models in the early to mid 1960's and pretty much made a mess of them. Now that I'm retired I'm starting to model again and wow...the modeling world has significantly changed, so...I have a lot of catching up to do. Follow me as I learn new model building skills, create some disasters and also have many successes.
I was also blessed with a 45-year career in electronics, industrial automation and control and teaching, all of which I have a passion for and therefore going to work was fun because I made a living doing my favorite hobbies. I have another KZread Channel for my now hobby of electronics and control. It can be found at: jtodora kzread.info There are also some model builds on that channel.

I paint the white first on that interior, masked it and spray the red.
Yes. That's probably a good idea. I wasn't thinking.
Looking awesome Skippy. Pink? I just don't see it... Lol Wow, you are so right, I retired in 2016 and I agree, how did I find time to have a job... An I still don't have model time some days and others I just go not today... Lol Ramble on my friend, Ramble on! LLAP 🖖
Thanks Bruce. It is amazing, the lack of time available. And now, on top of everything else, it seems like I'm pushing a lawn mower twice per week. The grass here in the Keystone state is growing like weeds. The old time farmers used to say they could sit outside in evening and hear the corn growing. Well, I can sit on my patio and hear the grass growing. 😂🤣I guess I need to be thankful I can still push a lawn mower and remain active in all ways. I have been truly blessed and thank and praise God everyday. Thanks again and take care my KZread buddy.
Your 56' is coming along nicely Skip! I'm looking forward to seeing your progress 😎👍
Thanks.
Lotsa work Skip. I give it another 2 years without a team. Lol. Your progress is commendable.
I give it more than 2-years...LOL...😂🤣😂🤣. Actually, the blinking lights is the easy part. Even the fiber optics shouldn't be too bad. I'll be dragging my heals with the tread movement and adding RC controller...Ok...make it 10-years...LOL...😂🤣😂🤣. What matters to me is that I'm having a blast!!! Thanks for watching and I enjoy the comment(s).
For me it is white over blue with purl in them. Kinda... Lol There again I paint what I want and don't care about that " Oh it has to be this color or that one..." 🤣 Your model build it your way... Lol LLAP 🖖
Hi Bruce. I usually paint what and how I want, but this time I want to go with a factory paint scheme and factory stock. I'm leaning toward either Colonial White over Peacock Blue or Raven Black over Fiesta Red. I've actually been spending the bulk of my time on the Lost In Space B9 Robot. I'm having a blast with that kit and developing the electronics to animate as much of it as possible. Thanks for watching.
@@skipsmessyworkbench Sounds awesome! 🖖
God bless your mom. Same here.
Thank you. I have been truly blessed to have her with me yet and to be in good health. If I even make it to 92 I'd be happy to be in half her condition. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Peacock Blue/ White would be my choice, although Thunderbird Green single tone or in 2-tone with White would look good, too. Looking ahead, if I had this kit, I'd deepen the panel lines rather than use Panel Liner.
I plan to deepen the panel lines and have started around where the headlight rings meet the fenders. The lines out of box are very shallow. Thanks for watching and commenting. Thanks for the input on the color. I'm going to do some test spoons and see how they look.
@@skipsmessyworkbench to make myself clearer, I meant doors and trunk lines, but you probably knew that.
@@rayrussell6258 yah, I know that. 🙂
Black with a red roof brother 😊
That is definitely an option. I saw one at a show with those colors and it was really sharp looking. Like I told another, I'm going to paint some test spoons and see how they look with actual paint. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@skipsmessyworkbench no problem brother!
I would suggest just painting the rim of the steering wheel (and the column supports where necessary) rather than stripping all the chrome off. The 1:1 steering wheel and column has a lot of chrome. If your interest is the convertible, AMT's '57 T-Bird kit has the soft-top for top-up and a boot for top-down display.
Thanks. I'll consider that; however, acrylic water based paint does not adhere well to a chromed surface, so I have to give that some thought. Thanks for the tip on the rag top. I didn't know the '57 kit from AMT offered the rag top.
Wow! Had no idea how much work would be going into his lights. Really amazing
It could be that I'm anal 😂🤣. But really, there isn't a lot of room and I want to try doing the whole animation with Arduino's. I say Arduino's because the MP3 player seems to use a lot of Arduino resources so at this time I'm planning on the sound having it's own Arduino. Thanks for watching. Updates will be coming soon.
Nice unboxing Skip
Thanks Tim.
Nice look at the kit. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
I have this kit in my stash, but haven't built it. I too love the 1955 through 1957, hate the 1958 through 1960, then love the 1961 through 1966 Birds. Then they botched it again. I have mixed views on the later "Retrobird". 😊
Yes...Ford really made some bad decision on this beautiful car, at least in my opinion and apparently yours. 😊
Hi, I have that kit, and can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Did you build it? If so, is it on your KZread channel?
Haven’t built it yet. I don’t have a channel.
If it's a body that's only available in diecast, and sometimes that happens, I wouldn't be against buying and building a diecast like this. Really you should be more proud of this, Skip. It really looks good. I'm sure if you took just a bit more time, you'd work out the fit and paint issues like the hood, and be greatly satisfied with the diecast, even to the point you'd try another. I would display that if I'd built it, definitely. The old 1:1 Model A's have some paint and fit issues, don't they? 😃
Thanks for the encouragement. I am happy with it, but I really don't like working with die cast. I do have another one just like this. I bought two at the time. One box was marked 1928 Model 'A' and the other 1931 Model 'A'; however, in the box they are identical kits, so maybe down the road I'll build the other one. I also have a 1:16 scale 1931 Model 'A' made by Minicraft. I wanted to build them because I had helped my neighbor restore a 1929 Model 'A'. I had such a good time doing that restoration, although his was all black. I guess that's why I always love those years of Model 'A's. His niece still has the car in the garage and I've been after her to sell it to me, but she won't budge. Thanks again my friend.
Looks pretty good. 😊 I've only built one model car kit with a diecast body, back in the late 1970s in my Airforce enlistment. It was an MGTC, about 1/20 scale I think. Haven't had a hankering to do another, though I have bought a few 1/18 and 1/24 diecast cars.
It was an experience. It's a good kit, I just learned that I don't like working with die cast.
Looks like a great job 👍 I love those Hubley Model A's! Best to you and yours
Thanks. It is a good kit and although I say I don't want to display it, I will because it did turn out better than I expected. What I learned is that I don't like working with die cast.
I'm behind on videos. Hope your feeling better. Love ling the rescue. I'll be watching
I too am waaaaay behind on video's. Thanks and I'm almost 100% again.
Get well soon Skip.
That is my plan.
Get well soon Skip👍👍

Thanks for suggestion. This is the first time I've been sick in well over 10-years. The last time was also bronchitis.
Nice build. I have that kit and I'm looking forward to building it.
Thanks! It's a nice kit and a good build. If you want to see my build photos please visit my website: www.skipsmessyworkbench.com/54_Hudson.html I also found a few issues with the kit. I have them listed on my website: www.skipsmessyworkbench.com/54_Hudson_Issues.html. My website is best viewed on a computer. Because of the number of photos the site can sometimes take a few minutes to load everything.
Very cool. 👍Great work on the Electronics. I would look into a simple alternating blinking LED circuit using a simple IC chip and battery. It's a much smaller package for the body. Great experiment with the Servo👍 Last time I had looked at an oscilloscope wave from was my pulse modulation days😂
Thanks. Yes...I'm still looking around for alternative methods so that everything can be self contained, especially since I would like to add moving feet tread and using an RC controller. I'm having FUN!!!! Thanks for watching and thanks again for the feedback. I truly appreciate it. Any help, any time is very much appreciated. Thanks again!!!!
Salut my friend super car super video subscribe subscribe .
Thanks. It's almost finished. Just waiting for a warm day so that I can put a coat of gloss clear on it out side.
I have started using Rust Oleum automotive primer on my diecast cars and it has been great. It adheres great to the metal and dries very fast. I was having trouble with the previous primer peeling off when I needed to do any tape masking for paint jobs and I have not had that problem since I started using the Rust Oleum Automotive primer. It also goes on thin so as not to cover fine details in the diecast. Overall very happy with it. Your mileage may very.
Thanks for the suggestion. I can't use solvent based paint because I can't vent my spray booth to the outside world, and, it's been too cold here in PA to paint outside. I found that using Vallejo primer and paint is Ok. However, when masking, the Tamiya masking tape will pull the primer and paint off, but painters blue tape will not. I'm almost finished with it. I just need to wait for a warm day to put a coat of clear on the body. Vallejo paints dry flat. Like I said in my video, it's a nice kit, but I will not be doing a die cast again anytime in the near or distant future. Thanks again for the tip, I appreciate it.
Does that "Scale Models" Model A kit include windows of any sort?
No. There are no clear parts.
@@skipsmessyworkbench Thanks for your response! I purchased a built-up "Scale Models" Ford Model A in taxicab markings yesterday at an antique shop in Wisconsin. The model was very nicely put together and decorated. It's just that it didn't have any windows and I was wondering if the original kit had any which apparently is not the case (at least for you and me!).
Great up date, lookin' great. Praise God that the chrome was interchangeable
Actually, I'm not sure if it is interchangeable? The two kits look the same, but we'll see. Actually, if it isn't, I don't think I really care. Like I mentioned in my video intro, these die cast kits are not my cup of coffee.
I’ve built 15 of these die cast models and find them to be very difficult. The actual Hubley kits go together far better than either the Scale Model or Gabriel kits. The hardest part for me is the pre-assembly prior to painting. Every screw is an enormous struggle but has to be done before you have paint on the model.
I haven't found it difficult...yet. The little bit of assembly that I did was not difficult. What I do find annoying is that because I use water based acrylic paint, it looks like it's not going to stick well to the surface, I was adding some detail to the engine yesterday and noticed that just my finger nail made a small paint nick on the transmission. Like I said in my video intro, I won't do another one. I wouldn't even finish this one, but I have a thing about finishing what I start. 😀
Looks awesome 👍 keep up the great work!
Thanks.
Excellent progress. 👍
Thanks Charlie! I'm catching up on watching your tank build. I think I have 4-more to watch. It looks great!
It ts looking great fill gaps in the body with C A glue it works great !
Thanks. Yes...I know CA glue would work but at this time I'm not going to seal them up. Of course, once it's together I might change my mind. Things like that [do] bother me. 😁
Lookin' pretty great! I'm looking forward to seeing how Robot is comin along. I love the end screen brother! Amen
Thanks. I just finished the first round of clean up on the '28 Ford and now need to wash and prime. There is/was A LOT of clean up on the die cast parts. I've also been experimenting with the electronics for the robot. I will most likely be making a video about that in a day to so. Life has just been busy. Thanks again.
With the body and the hood usa some c a glue and activator even to fill the seams
Thanks. I was thinking about doing that, so thanks for confirming it.
Looks like a great project, Skip 👍 What area of PA are you if you don’t mind? I just subscribed and look forward to seeing more 😎
Thanks for the sub. I'm in Northampton County, in what's called the Lehigh Valley, which is Eastern PA about 50-miles north of Philly and about 6-miles from the Jersey border. You might know the town if I tell you I live about 1/4-mile away from Mario Andretti and when I was working I did some controls work for Martin Guitar Company. Thanks again.
@@skipsmessyworkbench Nazareth! We pass through there quite often on the way to NJ 👍 I am in Western New York 😎
Like I said....clean up's a bitch. Nice progress. 👍
Oh...I believed you Charlie. It's really not too bad. I see that there is a small gap between the back of the roof and the body, so I'm not sure how I'll handle that? Any suggestions?
Aren't the Mobius kits really really expensive.
I guess it's all relative as to what you call expensive. They are not much more than any other kit. As an example, The B9 robot is $43.99 at Burbank House of Hobby. They are out of stock at this writing. I've paid more than that for AMT or Revell cars. Prices have been going up on everything. Actually, I paid more for the Aoshima Back to the Future DeLorean's than any of the Moebius kits I've bought. The other thing about Moebius and Aoshima kits. They are high quality. I've never had any warped parts and everything fits well with very little filing and/or sanding. It's the old adage...you get what you pay for.
Awesome build my friend!
Thanks! it was a fun build. I'm thinking of getting another one so make it with the rail wheels on it.
I have the victoria I built it back in 1973 yes I still have it it is a great kit but you need a good file. if a 13 year old can assemble it so you !
I've started doing the clean up. There is a lot of clean up that I didn't see at first. I'm using a dremel tool to do some of it and files in tight places. I had to use Loctite on the engine halves. The one screw wasn't enough to hold the halves together without a large gap. But so far so good. Thanks!!!!
Thats cool, How tall is it?
I think it should stand just over a foot tall. An unofficial source states that the original B9 stood 6'8". At 1:6 scale that would put it at just over 12".
I built several when I was a kid. Where did you find this?
Ebay. I bought it several years ago. I checked the other day and they still have some.
A clean workbench means you haven't started a new project yet! I am STILL waiting for the Robot model kit to come in to the Model store!
I got this one at Burbank House of Hobby's. They seem to have everything I ever searched for, although yesterday (2/10/24) I went online to buy another one and they were sold out. I rarely buy at my local hobby shop because they are always understocked and the place is a mess. I've been buying almost everything online. I hate to do that to the local shops, but if they're not going to keep stock and keep the store clean and organized, they're biting their own nose off to spite their face.
Very cool projects Skip❤😊
It should be fun. Thanks
I've built several Hubley kits. The hardest part was the clean-up. As to painting it , you need to prime it first. Most of it screws together. You also may have to use Super Glue on the plastic. Regular glue didn't work on the Hubley. Good luck.
Thank Charlie. I knew I'd be using super glue and I also knew I'd be priming. Did you have to treat the die cast with anything first? I'm assuming it should be sanded before priming?
Nope. Wash it. Sand it. Prime it.
Looks good
Thanks. These were really run builds.
I had this kit once many years ago but I never built it, I was not into model cars back then and now I could kick my butt for losing it. I want to build a model A four door I but now I can’t even find one 🥴. I plan on following you one this project 🪄🌧️👍👍
I saw a couple on ebay recently. They range from $30 to $50 if you're interested.
Interesting kit. Good luck. 😀
Thanks, you too!
Looks really great!!!
Thank you!
Just found your channel and gave you a sub. Great content i look forward to following along
Thank you for your kind words and thank you for the sub.
Sweet! I saved some of the great looking ones from the USACC build till last. Man that's a bummer about the paint! I think you can still save it tho. And either way it's gonna look good on the shelf!
Thanks. Yes, it is a bummer. My weak spot in the hobby is painting. I'm getting better, but as you can see... It's also the first time I used Vallejo Gloss Varnish (their clear coat). I should have used more thinner and I think I should have shot it at a higher psi. I live in eastern PA and if it was warm I would have sprayed Krylon Clear outside, but it's too cold to paint outside this time of the year. Anyway...thanks.
@@skipsmessyworkbench I'm new to these water based clears too, but they are very temperature sensitive. I did mine when it was 53 degrees and still had trouble. I used to live in in Ohio so I know what it's like trying to paint in the winter lol
