@romanp8879 ай бұрын
Well, got your point. But you have to keep in mind, as you said, it was just 2 years in production. Therefore such problems are expectable on that vehicle. In my case, I own 2015 S85D, bought it 2 years ago with 200k km. Now I'm on 250k km. So obviously I have had some issues with the car which needed to be solved and there're still some pending. All of those issues I'd consider to be completely ok for that mileage. But they're still rather cosmetic, nothing major so far. And those are possible to be solved quite cheap as there's already wide 3rd party shops around selling parts for those cars. For example I have solved replacement of almost all susp arms for about 1k USD including labour. So if you don't mind to tinker with you car a bit and also searching around Internet for parts and info, then it might be great choice with high added value as it's a spacious safe family car with lots of even today cool features, free SuC, (after 100kWh upgrade) really great range and fast charging which is still better then most of cars nowadays being sold on the market. If you don't want to take a care of it, you just need something for transport from A to B without any bother, you should definitely go for a newer car covered by warranty. Nevertheless there've been many sad stories about new cars all famous brands which likely spent more time at the service then serving their owners ;)

Buying a used battery is economic suicide. It's not a device you can deplete the battery before replacing. It could show the battery is 80% but if that doesn't get you the distance you need to go you get to replace the battery at 80%. Used electric cars don't sell very well on the used market for a very good reason.
@EVeverything Жыл бұрын
Not sure I understand your reasoning. So it's a bad idea to buy any used EV? I've almost exclusively bought used and will continue to do so based on my experience, which is that even the worst condition batteries (Nissan LEAF) have a long and useful life. I'm on my third LEAF right now, a used 2013 with 2 capacity bars missing but that still gets me over 60 miles of range. Teslas are known to have minimal degradation even at over 100K miles. I can't imagine where all these used EVs and their battery packs would be going if not to 2nd and 3rd owners on the used market like myself.

Was it difficult to switch owners? Would I be able to start driving cross-country right at delivery, or would there be a wait until the Tesla App recognized me as the owner instead of the person who sold it to me? Thanks!
Hmmm, I don't quite remember the process. The dealer sent me instructions to create a Tesla account and how to attach the car to that account. By the time the car arrived a few days later, everything was good to go as far as it working with the app.
Warranty?
Warranty ran out a year or so before we sold it. If you buy used direct from Tesla I believe you get extended warranty options.
Dude, the problem isn't the car - you are helpless. The recall issues and anomalies of the Model S are well publicized and known, easy to know about before buying. So, you damage the rear door and take that to mean the car is cursed? Interesting.
Well that's just like, your opinion, man.
@@EVeverything , it's closer to accurate than your opinion. A better name would be "EVnothing."
The Dude abides
Most of this sounds like a unfortunate chains of events due to the year of the model you got 2017 and you probably would’ve had a better experience
Quite possibly. It's more a cautionary tale to folks like me that were drawn in by owning a Model S at sub-$35K. I wouldn't hesitate on a new Model 3 or Y, so not trying to bash the Tesla brand.
Thank you for your honest review. Your background with EV and PHEV ownership definitely provides added insight. Do you regret purchasing the Model S?
Wouldn't say I totally regret, bc it was a little sad when we sold it and saw it being driven off. But maybe a newer Tesla, although the price for a new S or X is out of the question for our family. Definitely don't want this video to reflect badly on Tesla, just more a of a cautionary tale for buying a 7 year old car that was only 2 or so years into its model production.
How do I have to contact you to buy a used car?
I am not a seller. Just a person sharing my car-buying experience.
Auto door handle presenting can be tuned off via the MCU on the model S, I changed mine to not present when the fob is close.
Indeed, and I did enable that feature after I got tired of them presenting every time I walked to my other car in the garage. The simpler approach they have taken with the Model 3 & Y handles is a simplified improvement imo.
Hi! I have an cooperation offer for you. How can I reach you out?
What if you don't have a Garage. Is it safe to charge your car with an outdoor 120v outlet?
I've had no issue with the plug going into the car outdoors in any weather conditions. Now for an outside wall plug, I'd say it would need some type of protector over it like any outdoor plug. All that to say that the J1772 connector to your car is quite weather resistant, whereas the prongs going into a 120v socket are not.
My boss is willing to sell me his 2013 model s 60 with 59k miles for $15k and I’m now wondering if it’s a good idea. He has taken good care of it but I don’t think he’s had to replace the door handles or mcu
That's a pretty rad deal! If it doesn't have the air suspension that's one less thing to worry about having issues with. You may just want to replace the MCU on your own, or at least the modem since it doesn't support anything newer than 3G connectivity.
That's a good deal.
Thanks for the informative video! I was considering to buy a used Tesla Model S from 2015 with free supercharging, but I have changed my mind after watching your video and I going for a 2018 Honda Civic in diesel, as Hondas are well known for their great reliability as well as other Japanese cars.
Well, I'd love to have heard you bought another electric or plug-in car. Certainly hope my Tesla experience doesn't sour people on the EV experience overall.
@@EVeverything I would say that Europe is not ready for EVs yet. Traveling 300km and then wait 45-60 minutes to charge the car is not what I am cosidering comfortable traveling. ✌️
@@slivkask8329 my understanding is Europe is even more conducive, with shorter traveling distances and more plentiful charging stations. I'm beginning to suspect you were never really in the market for an EV and are just here to dissuade people, but hopefully I'm wrong.
@@slivkask8329All of that is untrue. Europe is better suited for EVs than the US. Say you personally don’t like EVs and leave it at that
Diesel! Oh no lol
Extreme whinging!
10-20%? Reference please, otherwise bogus
Specifically the section called Efficiency in the article. Though this came out after I made the video, seems to line up with my experience in the LEAF. EVs with even stronger regen are probably even more impressive. electrek.co/2018/04/24/regenerative-braking-how-it-works/
Sounds like you had a gremlin in your Tesla? A lot of the others online are all good.
Hope you have a better experience. I wouldn't want to dissuade anyone from buying a used Tesla, maybe just not the very oldest model years.
Thanks for the review. I’m trying to get a used P85+ at the moment. Hoping to hear back today?🤞
Buying a used battery is economic suicide. It's not a device you can deplete the battery before replacing. It could show the battery is 80% but if that doesn't get you the distance you need to go you get to replace the battery at 80%. Used electric cars don't sell very well on the used market for a very good reason.
@@EVeverything Battery issues are very common with EV. I know many people already that regret their decision buying an EV. Your stories are just Stories.I'll stick with what I know to be true.
@@fraudsarentfriends4717 ah, I see now. You have no experience and are likely making up the "many people" regretting going electric. All the more reason reason sharing my actual experience is important in the face of ignorance and misinformation.
@@EVeverything Ah, I see, You are a used car salesman that wants to discredit my real world experience of people around that have purchased electric vehicles with your sleazy used car salesman stories.
It sounds like you need a dog or camp mode to keep the AC running . The screen being on in the middle of the night is clearly the car communing with Skynet . ;-) I am curious, after 2 years was your range still at $258 mi or did it decrease significantly?
If I recall, I think it was down to 250 or maybe even just below by the time we sold it. So steady degradation, but mileage was still under 60K.
@@EVeverything okay, thanks. I will keep that in mind as I continue my shopping for a used Model S.
I have a Chevrolet volt 2014 no problem at all ...but i want to buy a tesla model S 2013 ....what do you think???
If your Volt is covering most or all of your daily driving then I'd say stick with it. Maybe a more logical upgrade for you would be the 2nd gen Volt, which we used to own, and could take us well over 50 miles on battery power alone.
@@EVeverything Thanks 😊 👍
Man that car is like a horror movie 😮
Lololol no
Your intro music scared me, it sounds like the training videos at Walmart. That was a nightmare.
Oh, no! Sorry for the triggering music
@@EVeverything haha its fine :P
Only 80 miles driving on one charge 😳
For a 2016 or older LEAF, yes. I actually just got my 3rd LEAF (2013) a few months ago and it still remains a reliable commuter.
Is the free supercharging stations available for a used 2015 model s ?
Should be, although I can't remember when they discontinued that. Should be a way to tell from the main screen I think, where mine used to show free supercharging and free data connectivity. Can't recall where exactly that was displayed, and we don't have the car anymore.
Nice review. Just one comment- it’d be better if you could get the trunks space better illuminated than they currently are in your video. Ours very difficult to make out how big they are because they are so dark and not captured well.
Nice summary.
Damn son. You are such a complainer. You sold a beautiful car for complete childish reasons.
Aw, I'm sorry you had to sell your Model S. But yeah... I feel your pain about the repairs. Even though I haven't had a repair in over a year, I'm afraid to tell my wife if anything else goes wrong. :) Still planning to get my MCU upgraded next month. That will take care of my 3G to 5G modem exchange, as well as improving response time. The prices of used Teslae is starting to come down again, so you might want to consider a newer Model S (perhaps a 2017-2019). The door handle motor issue was resolved with a new design (I got to see the technician replace mine and the new motor assembly has MUCH better engineering).
It is nice to see the prices coming back down on used Teslas. Even new models like the Y got price drops too, I believe. My next Tesla is still most likely a Cybertruck (depending on price changes) or possibly a Model Y if they bring back the RWD version that was available briefly.
