Amazing how our modern day politicians are hell bent on decimating every single word of it...🙄
only watching this for a damn assignment...
Ben Franklin...I wonder if he means Obi Wan Franklin...
Lol "All men"....nervous about adding black dudes but women have to wait 200 years, they weren't even considered ?
I truly wish this director would learn to keep his frames level and un-ridiculously cropped so we could stay within the drama rather than be pulled away from it. Tom Hooper's penchant for stupid framing killed this miniseries for me and I adore history.
Boy do I miss enlightened men like them today. I love how Ben’s compromising skills pacified Thomas by changing the subject to the swivel chair meaning you can’t just sit in one position, you have to be able to change.
Biden is a crook
Tom Jefferson addressed slavery
This is document that made primates into modern humans. Self awareness, even self awareness of others. The USA has grown the fastest than any other civilization since it started. From slavery to the first man on the moon.
Is anyone else surprised that the pullied adjusted window sashes predate the swivel chair?
Just getting into American History lately (not American myself) so excuse me if this is a dumb question, but is there any proof of what Franklin and Adams may have changed from Jefferson’s original? Would love to read about it if anyone has any links.
“That’s not what I intended Dr Franklin” history would show that it was indeed what he intended
For those who have no understanding of history
I knew it. Stannis Baratheon really WAS the one true king.
Thomas Jefferson. Creates one of most important documents of the world..... relaxing on his spare time... k going to upgrade the chair also....
Ha coupla bumpkins from southwest England by the sounds of it.
The comments are like 90% about the chair
RIGHTS OF ALL WHITE LAND OWNING WHITE MEN … get that right
This was an amazing series!
What is the Declaration of independence?. Are them still dependent upon their masters rulings or are they independence to their masters law?.
Glorified racist fools
Yeah they should have stayed a colony and bowed down to their betters, amirite?
Did Kimberlé Crenshaw tell you to say that?🦜
Amazing Friends and Enemies to the last Day on Earth.
Why does the word 'undeniable' smack of the pulpit? Redundant, I think. But that's about it.
RIP Tom Wilkinson. General Cornwallis and Ben Franklin. Oddly.
Ben: "Yeah this is pretty good, but we'll just church it up a little before you send it up"
An amazing thing about this series that I overlooked when I first saw it was the reconstruction of the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic American accents as linguistic anthropologists believe it was spoken at the time. Notice the peculiar inflection Jefferson uses - the pronunciation of certain vowels. This accent no longer exists, but is hypothesized to be the way he (and others) would have spoken.
“Let’s deal with slavery later. Like 87 years later” 😅
Precisely, the Union wouldn’t be alive today if the northern colonies wanted to outlaw slavery the moment of revolution
I love this example of one of the greatest moments of mankind to occur in a scene.
my goodness. this is wonderful
"The issue before us is independence, not emancipation. We're gonna, we're gonna kick that one down the road."
Weren’t everyone in their 20s when this was written?
Well not us. I dont think we were born yet.
Its declaration of independence NOT unity
I’d rather independent freedom than unified tyranny
It's ironic that the writer of the Declaration of Independence, and the Declaration of the Rights of Man, was a prolific slave owner.
250 years from now people may exclaim that it’s ironic that joliecide was a defender of human dignity while they chose to cannibalize the flesh of other animals. They may argue that it’s self evident that eating other animals is more cruel than subjugating an animal that is the same species. Not meant to be a critique of you or eating tasty meat, just a warning against the historians fallacy. Jefferson espoused the virtues we hold today, he was just imperfect in the practical application.
In today’s standards. Back then they weren’t considered human
I believe only four of the founding fathers didn't own slaves themselves if I recall correctly. John Adams here was one of them, and Thomas Paine was another.
@@enviritas9498this largely depends on how you define founding fathers, but the concept is the same either way. Slavery was common, and the oppression of one man by another was not viewed in the same way that oppression of free men by government was. Magna carta had similar themes, and it rests on the notion that people belong to social classes, and different rules govern those classes.
I wish that the actor portraying Franklin was more accurate in the writing scene. Franklin was left-handed.
Amazing camera work for being hundreds of years ago
It was the serpent who tricked Eve to eat the forbidden fruit of knowledge and with this intelligence to create weapons, war strategies, and slave Ent and murder among men kind. We were perfect in the Eden before the cursed place by on mankind; no person would had suffered should Adam and Eve had not eaten the forbidden fruit of knowledge. Knowledge brought the curse to mankind!. The Declaration of Independence tell the God of the old testament Yahweh and Torah: fok you, no men is slave to another man, it DOES not matter what the Torah says; unfortunately the USA continues taking the freedom and making slaves of other human beings by other methods wiping off their ass with the Declaration of Independence!
Yahweh was a canonite warrior god associated with inland thunderstorms.
Can we take a moments to appreciate how brilliant Tom Wilkinson is as Benjamin Franklin.
This is one of the finest scenes that has ever been presented on television.
Ford Lincoln Mercury was also in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Literally kidnapped Frodo with the ring. :P
The declaration of Independence was originally written by Thomas Jefferson but it had to re written because Jefferson stayed that all men were equal but the negro was not
Good ass flick.
Sitting in a swivel chair in the United States watching a video about the guy who invented one... and had a strong hand in inventing the other.
For Black America Patients tolerance? What say you?
"Smacks of the pulpit" 😂
They all had really nice hair ..."You know who has great hair?" Who? Bumsss! ...that's who - The Lonely Guy
Everyone should read his original draft. It’s absolutely fascinating.
awe look at all you trumpers thinking they'd actually be on your side.
Make up your mind, were the founding fathers racist right wing slave owners or were they freedom fighters like you?😂

Don't skip over the parts that: validate the Genocide of The Indigenous, enslavement of Africans and only Land owning White men being able to VOTE.
Outside of validating indigenous genocide (via the quote concerning "merciless Indian savages", a phrase which Franklin despised), NOTHING in the Declaration of Independence justified the enslavement of Africans or proclaimed that only land-owning white men should be allowed to vote. While these were terrible realities during this time in history, they were separate issues that (like all political issues) had as many dissenters as supporters. In fact, abolitionists such as Franklin and Adams hoped that the Declaration and the Revolution would be the death knell of slavery in America. They were sadly mistaken, of course, but to ignore the groundwork brought forth by these men in creating a global movement combating the global slave trade is not only a disservice to their legacies but also the progress of mankind.
How much more man would I be if I would have had the privilege to be amoungh them
"Where's the Janitor? My damn chair's come loose and it won't stop turning. Fix it! Now Gentlemen, about these arms for Bears..."
No no, it was the right to bare arms. If any man or woman wants to roll up their sleeves they should have the right to do so to avoid a farmer's tan.
SPECTACULAR SERIES!
