    I truly wish this director would learn to keep his frames level and un-ridiculously cropped so we could stay within the drama rather than be pulled away from it. Tom Hooper's penchant for stupid framing killed this miniseries for me and I adore history.

    Boy do I miss enlightened men like them today. I love how Ben’s compromising skills pacified Thomas by changing the subject to the swivel chair meaning you can’t just sit in one position, you have to be able to change.

    Just getting into American History lately (not American myself) so excuse me if this is a dumb question, but is there any proof of what Franklin and Adams may have changed from Jefferson’s original? Would love to read about it if anyone has any links.

    An amazing thing about this series that I overlooked when I first saw it was the reconstruction of the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic American accents as linguistic anthropologists believe it was spoken at the time. Notice the peculiar inflection Jefferson uses - the pronunciation of certain vowels. This accent no longer exists, but is hypothesized to be the way he (and others) would have spoken.

    It's ironic that the writer of the Declaration of Independence, and the Declaration of the Rights of Man, was a prolific slave owner.

  • @Typexviiib
    @TypexviiibАй бұрын

    250 years from now people may exclaim that it’s ironic that joliecide was a defender of human dignity while they chose to cannibalize the flesh of other animals. They may argue that it’s self evident that eating other animals is more cruel than subjugating an animal that is the same species. Not meant to be a critique of you or eating tasty meat, just a warning against the historians fallacy. Jefferson espoused the virtues we hold today, he was just imperfect in the practical application.

    I believe only four of the founding fathers didn't own slaves themselves if I recall correctly. John Adams here was one of them, and Thomas Paine was another.

  • @Typexviiib
    @Typexviiib8 күн бұрын

    @@enviritas9498this largely depends on how you define founding fathers, but the concept is the same either way. Slavery was common, and the oppression of one man by another was not viewed in the same way that oppression of free men by government was. Magna carta had similar themes, and it rests on the notion that people belong to social classes, and different rules govern those classes.

    It was the serpent who tricked Eve to eat the forbidden fruit of knowledge and with this intelligence to create weapons, war strategies, and slave Ent and murder among men kind. We were perfect in the Eden before the cursed place by on mankind; no person would had suffered should Adam and Eve had not eaten the forbidden fruit of knowledge. Knowledge brought the curse to mankind!. The Declaration of Independence tell the God of the old testament Yahweh and Torah: fok you, no men is slave to another man, it DOES not matter what the Torah says; unfortunately the USA continues taking the freedom and making slaves of other human beings by other methods wiping off their ass with the Declaration of Independence!

    Don't skip over the parts that: validate the Genocide of The Indigenous, enslavement of Africans and only Land owning White men being able to VOTE.

  • @rickysanders6487
    @rickysanders64872 ай бұрын

    Outside of validating indigenous genocide (via the quote concerning "merciless Indian savages", a phrase which Franklin despised), NOTHING in the Declaration of Independence justified the enslavement of Africans or proclaimed that only land-owning white men should be allowed to vote. While these were terrible realities during this time in history, they were separate issues that (like all political issues) had as many dissenters as supporters. In fact, abolitionists such as Franklin and Adams hoped that the Declaration and the Revolution would be the death knell of slavery in America. They were sadly mistaken, of course, but to ignore the groundwork brought forth by these men in creating a global movement combating the global slave trade is not only a disservice to their legacies but also the progress of mankind.
