Thank you Kasey for the nice videos on the Kinetico softener. I have Model 30, and I checked the entire control head, everything is in order, nothing is plugged up and it is clean. But it is still not using any salt water, there is no suction. It looks like the air coming out instead of going in. Can you advise what could be an issue and what shall I check further?

Hello Kasey, great videos and thank you for them. I believe my softener isn't using salt. Watching your video gives me the confidence to at least review the system and take the mystery out of the device. So I'm looking at the brine tank first as I see water dripping from the quick connect from the brine tank to the siphon (sucking) hose of the head unit. I noticed in your example that the siphon is much stronger than the siphon on my unit. But there is sucking in the brine tank. When I pulled the brine tank float mechanism I noticed crystallization around the bottom of the mechanism. With a lack of a better word, the bottom of the float device looks like a shoe with a heal where the ball valve and float mechanics attaches and the toe portion of the shoe where the hose connects into. My question is simple; does the toe portion of the shoe have an opening in it other than the hose bulkhead? I took the bulkhead where the hose connects into the shoe and saw a nipple into the main plastic and if you look at the front of the shoe, it appears thee is an inlet with a cross filter to which the brine could enter into the float mechanism. The hole in front had crystalized salt in it but after placing in warm water and releasing the crystalized salt, there isn't an opening to that toe area. Is there a hole or not in the toe?

Great set of videos. We have a Kinetico MACH Series 4060 with carbon tank, water softener system in Phoenix AZ. We purchased new and it was installed in 2005. It has performed flawlessly during this time. The last time (2022) we had them out for service the service guy did not replace the carbon. He wrote on the bill don't recommend carbon replacement, unit will need to be replaced soon. Seems like this unit is working fine and would be wasteful to replace the entire unit. Was he just trying to up sell us on a new unit or should we be concerned? As you know these units are $$$$. Why would you need to replace everything? This unit seems to be built like a tank. Seems like there should be a refurbishment option if needed? Wonder if the new units are built to the same standards?

Hello there My friend who lives in Las Vegas has a Kinetico water softener system. It does not appear to have that pre filter attached. She has told me that the salt portion is not working. I have watched your other videos. My question is does one ever have to change the resin beads in the system and if so is that difficult to do.. I saw a episode of This Old House where they emptied the resin tank and changed the the resin beans along with some other parts like a plastic strainer/Filter on the bottom of the pipe in the resin tank. I am going to visit her next week and she has asked me to help her diagnose her problems. I found your other 2 videos very helpful Please advise me if possible. Mark

Kasey, thanks so much for your instructive videos. Could you help me with an issue that doesn't seem to have a video? My water softener is cycling way too much and consuming a lot of water and salt. I was slow to realize this, but our last quarter's water bill was way up, and I can now see that it's been eating salt at too high of a rate (ran through three 50 lb bags in a few days). I followed your trouble shooting video precisely and can confirm that the control dial is rotating (seeing the little pawl click), that both sides of the cycle draw the vacuum on the brine tank at the right time, and have the same audibles and drain-line flows that you show in the video. I have a model 2030s. Any advice on what to try next?

Sounds like the level 1 is bad, Put the unit very close to a regeneration and just wait without using any water in the home. If it cycles through to the next regeneration unfortunately the whole level 1 is bad and needs replaced.

As I've stated in my videos I am no longer associated with Kinetico in any way shape or form but I still will say they are the best water softener on the market. Are there other options that can do the job for cheaper? Sure but the longevity of the Kinetico is unmatched. During my time as a service tech, it was not uncommon to see a unit that had been in-service for 30 years.

Hi there, thanks for the great video! I have a similar issue with the dechlorinator valve manifold/ head. Water is dripping. Apparently it's from the gasket joint but I'm not sure. Do you have a diy video for it? Would it fix by changing the gasket/ O ring or does it need valve head / manifold to be replaced? Would appreciate your expertise. It's a 12 year old unit.

Hi Kasey. I'll TRY to be brief. Have a cottage used maybe 12 days spread out a year. No laundry or dishwasher, let's say 3 person usage, dishes, hands, toilet, 10 showers TOTAL a year. Hard, (~17gpg) well water, UV filter, septic system. Getting rid of Cullegan exchange tank water softener. Considering Kinetico, really EVERYTHING. Understand "K" is usage controlled refresh, not timer, but learned from your videos you can force things w/ screwdriver control on top. QUESTIONS... Any recommendations? If system is shut down while away, will that ruin resins? Prefer to shutdown pump while away in case something freezes, but could put in shutoffs to in house lines and allow pump to run. Water equipment in heated garage. Wondered if resin ions dissipate over long NO usage periods. IDEAS please ! Thanks, ...Rich

I'm watching in 2024. I have an older system. Probably about 2002. Recently my water is like an ocean in the house. Taking a shower was no fun! Salt water. I did let it go without salt for quite some time and just added some to it a couple of months ago. Why is my house water so salty? Also, I ran it for like an hour in my bathtub and it looked like there was sand in the tub. I'm currently not running a filter either. Help. Thank you.

Awesome! I just followed the video and fixed mine. Well, at least it is getting suction now whereas before it was spitting water out of the brine side. Not exactly sure what the problem was though. The venturi and screen were clear, all small holes were clear, no debris, but there was a lot of rust deposits in and around things like the pistons, the piston seals and valve seats on one side and the edges where the gaskets seal. Cleaned those off, put it back together and it's now got suction. It's running a brine cycle as I type. However, I think it needs the seals replaced or the entire head replaced. The pistons move in and out, but not loosely like in the video. I have a well and the ground water here in PA is horrible, it's so full of iron it's not funny. Had the resin tanks replaced last summer, but there is so much gunk. I have seen advertisements for seal kits that claim Kinetico won't sell you, so I may try that if/when it fails again. I'll also, once winter is gone, pull it all apart again and dunk everything in some Iron Out solution and let it soak, put on the new seals and see how that goes. I do need to take apart the Level 1 as there's a ton of gunk up in the dials as well.
