Oh that is just superb! Did you implement the stick on the WKSRs the same way it's done on the westpac relays?
Thank you. The circuits are based on how real ones work but very simplified so the indications show as they would in a real box There are no latching relays as in the real thing so in a power failure memory of point commands would be lost. Sick feature is wired into circuits like TSR's in the real thing forcing the signal lever to be returned to Normal as in the real thing. The WKSR's are stick relays to remember the point was Normal or Reverse when the lever is moved, dropping out the NWR or RWR, this causes loss of Normal or Reverse indication and the WKSR remains up until the opposite relay energises when the point moves over. If detection is lost the WKSR drops out. So to clear a signal over points in the Normal position both NWR and NWKSR need to be up, showing Normal indication through a front contact of both relays If you are still with me, a bit complicated to explain, you will see that circuits are not very complex like the real thing but do fail safe
@@cedarcam Aye, I'm still with you. That sounds like pretty similar to the way it's done on an RRI, though as you say, without the latching. So in this case, the NWKSR/RWKSR are roughly equivalent to the NLR/RLR in terms of function? If you did end up with a situation where the power went out and the WKSR dropped, presumably when it came back up, you could end up with the points out of correspondence? Please excuse me if I've misunderstood this - I have a basic understanding of RRIs, but I'm still learning it all so I could have got this wrong. Your explanation was perfectly clear though. I've just been going through circuit diagrams to see where the different elements fit in.
@@TheHatMusic Yes the NWKSR = the NLR. If the power failed you could pull a lever reverse and when power returned the points would remain normal. A bit more explanation about the levers They have a passing contact or rather a Full Normal or Full Reverse to operate the solenoid which throws the points over. watch at 2:00 as I put 11 and 10 points back you see the lever is pushed fully back then springs forward. What I have done is use the Full N contact to pick the NWR and NWR throws the point. With NWR up and detection made NWKSR picks. When you let go of the lever the passing contact breaks NWR drops out. NWKSR sticks up because detection is made and the lever is Normal so either moving the lever away from Normal or loosing detection drops out NWKSR Indication is shown through NWR down and NWKSR up Points are thrown by a pulse of power from the CDU Capacitor Discharge Unit, I use one for A ends and one for B ends. When I plug the layout in the points show no indication so I have to push the point levers Full Normal to pick up the NWKSR's.
@@cedarcam That's a really rather elegant solution for working around a lack of latching! Would I be right in assuming that you have a background in signalling, or is this all learned from your own interest in the subject? I have seen those levers on a few models recently, and was wondering whether there would be any way to add some sort of solenoid locking to them to provide interlocking on the frame itself, though I suspect it would take a fair bit of reworking to implement it.
@@TheHatMusic Thank you. I was a signal maintainer with an interest in learning how the circuits were designed. Why each contact was there, which led to me getting into the design office. I would love a locking frame and have thought of adding locks by drilling a hole at the bottom of the levers to attach a rod or tappet as it is called. I worked out the locking but making the locking would be a lot of work. Electric locks would be another way using a solenoid and micro switches which is how the real thing works A rod with a electric lock above it. Gravity drops the lock dog into a notch and electromagnet lifts the lock out. A micro switch closed by a cam roller under the rod is called an economiser contact. Moving the lever slightly closes the contact to power the lock, this is to stop free to be moved levers having the lock permanently energised wasting power and possibly burning out the solenoid. As long as my frame is worked correctly as if mechanical locks were fitted electrically it is the same as a real one would show indications to a signaller. The levers are Cobalt S they are not cheap but really are good quality and have enough contacts for most peoples needs.

Thanks Phil The NRM yard was always good to go to and watch locos being loaded with coal and oiled round. They run a tractor train into town and have now made the car park into a station for that and moved the car park onto the area where the locos were serviced. The museum itself has had most of the locos removed to various places Bury transport museum Doncaster museum one sent to Cornwall and a few to Shildon. No longer worth a visit unless there is some special event on.
I had the 56 back from Settle to Leeds in the afternoon.

Thank you Jimmy Not sure if the 225 was a failure or empty being taken to Doncaster works. Red Arrows was waiting to be dragged to Neville Hill, they did not electrify to there until the rest of ECML was done, a stupid decision to make an electric train depot with no overheads.

Which is my LEAST favourite diesel locomotive? Well, it just has to be the Class 20!! It makes an awful noise compared with other locomotives of a similar size.
Epping Ongar Railway has the Class 45 Society using North Weald Station as a base for repairing 45,123!!
Are they using a Class 101 DMU on this railway?
Which is my favourite diesel locomotive? I must admit to having a very soft spot for the Western Class, and also the Class 37.
I got haulage by a Western for the first time at KWVR gala Enjoyed that, my favourite are the class 40, I do like a good 37 sound as well though
Nice selection of diesel locomotives. It may not be for me, but I love the sounds they make. Each diesel locomotive has a different sound to it.
That's what I like Even locomotives with the almost the same engine like 26 and 33 sound different
When I volunteered at my local heritage railway during the Diesel Gala, I wheezed like a blown set of organ bellows because of my Asthma. So although I generally enjoyed working at the Epping Ongar Railway, I had to give up and retire.
Aww thats a shame but health is important so it was best decision for you. Some of these old diesels do put out lots of smoke
Freightliner a Genesee & Wyoming Company. Interesting! I need know more bout that. GW owns over 120 different railroads here. Do we they own the RR there or just 😮tge loco or what?
Our railways were privatised in a very complicated way. Network Rail own all the track signalling and structures like tunnels / bridges. All the rolling stock and locomotives were put up for sale and bought by leasing companies who rent them out, and companies like Freightliner were formed before the sell off called shadow companies, these were bought and got contracts to carry freight, and hired in locomotives from the leasing companies, they pay Network Rail to run them on their track, if they make a profit that's theirs to keep. So Freightliner is a British subsidiary company of American company Genesse Wyoming who ordered 30 of these locomotives from GE to be built in Erie Pennsylvania and shipped over here One was dropped on the dock and bent like a banana when a sling broke and was a write off. It was sent back for spares. They were built in 2009. We hardly own anything now Power plants steel works even our Royal Mail has just been sold off abroad what a country.

That opening “train”, two locos and one freight car? Just curious. I’m here for the WC!
They were hauling a nuclear fuel flask, two locomotives are used on these in case one fails, they used to run with one on either end of the wagon to act as a barrier vehicle but recently that was changed to double heading.
@@cedarcam Thank you. Because I imagine Sellafield is nearby I thought it was a nuclear flask, I just thought they’d been a van or two between the loco & the flask, I’m probably thinking of loco pulled fuel trains, the only “freight” seen in my parts!

@@davehodges6258 They do yes A memory that stays in my mind when we got a lift on a long coal train was how the driver knew he could start away on full power and not slip the wheels, we slowly built up speed and a while before where we wanted dropping off went down to idle and hardly using the brake stopped just where we wanted

I used a bit of memory card waiting for that LOL My friend paused recording and missed it, always happens doesn't it LOL. Western consort will sound familiar to you. These were class 56 locomotives when built and served us well but in our ever increasing race to lower emissions were retired to rust away in favour of newly built locomotives. It turned out they were not that good and so the old class 56 was given a new EMD 710 engine and modern controls in the cab. A few have been converted and like this one given retro liveries, they seem to be well liked. So this one was hired in for the event

Nicee video Colin. Hope you liked the Western? One of my favorite diesel classes. I have a few photos from 1973ish ,I took, of quite a few in a sorry state on the scrap line at Swindon Works
I did like the Western, I had heard about their fast acceleration and it was good to get a bit of that demonstrated. I only saw a few in their last year or so but did see the scrap line. They were selling names for £500 and numbers for £250, a lot back then and even a number was too big and weighty to carry, looking back I wish I could of got one

Thank you Phil. We were pleased to see the 50's passing in the loop Axl could not zoom in as close but spotted them before me. I was pleased I got the token exchange which I only saw when editing. The dog was really enjoying shouting at every train LOL In a friendly way, he was on Friday as well. Spot class 14 No 45 it changed into a 72 in Ingrow seen later in Keighley and Rodney changed into Dave.
A varied amount of loco's there Colin looks like it the gala went down a storm. I did like the 37 in EWS livery is that loco based at the Wensleydale Railway. You may like to take a look at a young lady by name of Matilda River Waldon. She has done a really good video at Arcow Quarry engaging with the Drivers. What a a talent for someone so young.
It was very busy both days I was there, Friday and Saturday, which was good to see with costs going crazy these days and some lines struggling to keep open. The 37 is from Wensleydale yes and was seen in the shed on my video of the model weekend in faded Dutch livery. I watched Matilda's video today and commented on how good it was. She is a talented young lady check out some more of her channel, not only trains but makes videos on several topics
A brilliant event which I was at for a while on the Friday and all day Saturday. Stars of the show were surely 50021 Rodney and 37250. Already looking forward to next year.
It sure was, especially for Western fans with 2 x 50 and the 52 as well as the tribute to Westerns 69. 37 250 does look a whole lot better than seen not long in dull Dutch livery. I also went on Saturday and thats shown in part 2. Not as long as I did less haulage video that day.
Man, this is a cool event, ill have to watch it in stages though, it's a long one..
The line is only 5 miles long, made famous by the film The Railway Children, a family film based on a novel set in Yorkshire about a rich family who's Father was arrested and their Mother with 3 children moved a a small cottage near this railway. Now tourists from many paces come here to see the places in the film. It is also a place famous for the Bronte Sisters, who lived and wrote novels around Haworth. The video is a long one with me getting haulage for the first time by by a Western Diesel Hydraulic locomotive I wanted to record that. You can watch it in stages though and see the shorter 2nd days visit which has less onboard video.

@cedarcam How lucky. This is what you call quality archive material. Happy days sadly now long gone. Growing up as a youngster I loved all the diesel locos especially the class 50s that came to Brum! Now that's a thrash machine.
@@glenhoff1443 Yes the railway is very dull now Back then there was plenty of action and variety. Today 21 06 2024 I had some class 50 haulage on KWVR No full thrash or speed but still enjoyed reminiscing. I saw them at Crewe first when they were taking over from electric locomotives some trains double headed Fantastic sound.
you did a lot of filming of this project. did you ever talk with the heavy equipment operators ?
No I never got to do that, but I did get to talk to the drag line operator after meeting him one Sunday when I went to take photos. He stayed in a caravan at the compound, said he travelled to a few sites with it. I also got to know a couple of the foremen who used to let me walk over the site, not amongst the machines, to save a long walk round on the diverted footpath.
Wow those 2 yellow pans and the ripper were cable driven. Those were some old machines 👍😊
Yes even when this was filmed they were old and if you notice the bulldozer pulling the ripper has a spoked drive wheel so I think older than the pan one with a solid one

@@ccrx6700I will see if I can get more video of it for you. The people there are keen to show people round their locos. One loco they have was at a factory which had 3 engines. I rode on two of them which were scrapped the 3rd was saved and still runs here. I was a bit sad it was inside the shed so could not see it. I really want to get on the footplate and have a good look round it. They use them in rotation so I will check for when these are running and hope for a fine day.

Cracking video. Don't think I've ever seen Sir Berkeley out but it has run many times in preservation. Half of those locos on display are ready to run also but little track space. Extremely important railway that can't really extend any further due to the network and buildings the park etc. It would be really nice if they could just get another mile make Park Holt the mid way passing station but probably a pipe dream 😕 Nice you got the off branch In shot. Felt sorry for that crew out in that weather.

Thanks axl I was saddened not to see Brookes No 1 but I remember Mirvale working at the factory and NYMR so was good to look in the cab which is very cramped. They have a good number of locos that run just limited how many they can run in a day with the short track. It would be nice if they had a bit longer track. I asked about the branch and why some rail was taken out, they get paid by Networkrail who do training there. Picked the wrong loco they were drenched but still seemed happy.
Well they all have to do a duty every few weeks to keep the parts moving I suppose there will be a written down loco roster. Good they get paid for training. The sentinel was based at the nymr for a while late 80s and since then has done the odd gala visit at other railways.
@@axldelticwalton1238 Yes they rotate the locos The guy I asked where No 1 was said it should be out soon and to check on facebook. I thought the Sentinel had been used a lot In my Archive it is shown just after being restored. Rather like them

I liked the assorted variety of locomotives at the beginning. The painted backdrop for the model display (starts at 14:02) is a nice backdrop. Is that a layout for a club ?
I remember Mirvale working at a factory and it went to NYMR as one of their first locomotives where I saw it working. The one locomotive I really wanted to see was in the shed out of sight, it came from a factory near where we lived, I want to see that working one day, it is still used. The layout you like is from a club and built by a husband and wife who we had a chat to. I liked that one too. It was only a small show and I only took that little video of the layouts.

Thank you Denis. When I saw there were two Bullied hauled charters arriving in minutes of each other it was a rare sight I did not want to miss, It was a lovely sunny day as well making Braunton look very nice as they oiled round. There were 8 Bullieds and these two making 10 in operation on this day who would ever of thought that would happen. I have seen some video of the gala as well as on Railcams live cams there.
You must have been burning the midnight oil Colin to have got that edited and online after travelling home. Good to see some of the shots that I missed and different perspectives on the ones I did catch.
I got home around 9pm and put my oven on while copying the files to PC. I was going to edit today but ended up doing it until midnight and uploaded it. A long day as I was up at 5am and that walk over the fields to end with, but at least it was a nice evening. Glad you spotted a few shots you liked. The highlight for me was seeing Braunton being oiled round in close detail.

Thank you Ian Oiling round was certainly the highlight for me. I only get to see that from far away, it was good Tangmere had blocked them getting into Upperby yard or as usual I would of only had a distant view if I had walked there. I would love to see BR emblems back on our trains but I bet they go for some flashy logo.

It's not quite the same livery with the deep red instead and I think that looks better on them. Hope they will be around a while longer
