Neville Hill and Andania in York 05 06 2024

Ғылым және технология

English Electric Type 4 D213 Andania brought a charter train into York on it's way to Scarborough. With a long stop in the station many wanted a photo making it hard to record a long sequence with uninterrupted sound of my favourite type of diesel. Arriving in York I saw class 91 electric locomotive Neville Hill named after it's home depot was in platform 6 with the 12:02 departure to London.

D213 looks so good & sounds amazing, in my days of spotting 1970-1996 we use to call these 40's Bucket's, Got a few Pics of these in Crewe Works being Scrapped in the 80's during a Tour, even had a tour of the Crewe Works melting shop where they were dismantling them with the cutters torch, So glad D213 was one of the 40's which got away. Great Video.

Thank you. Locomotive Services really make an effort to keep their trans pristine the engine sounds on great form as well. I never heard them called Buckets we always called them whistlers. I went to Crewe works open day when they were being scrapped, a very sad day for me seeing them lined up and some partly cut up in the shop. A video I put on here years ago has photos I took on that day. Being my favourite type of diesel I am glad a few were saved and even better we can see some out on the main.

Sure is. I am glad they stopped a long time here. I had thought of going to Scarborough but the crowd around would be bigger than here, and under the roof here always sounded great back when they were regularly here

For some reason my reply vanished. Thanks daystate. Same with me. I kept recording to get a long sound track of the engine and stood close to it so I did not get the constant long announcements.

I think Andania looked superb but what about the class 91. The people at Neville Hill really do go the extra mile to keep them looking fantastic. Another great video Colin.

Well on Monday I came to film Braunton and getting off the train on the way home an old school friend was waiting on the platform, It is a few years since I saw him and I wondered if he retired when they scrapped the HST's. He said he has just retired and had been to London to be presented with an award for his loyal service, It is him we have to thank for keeping the class 91 going and giving them that extra special finish. The white rim buffers his trade mark. applied to a number of locomotives over the years, he also played a big part in getting class 25 Tamworth Castle back running, as an apprentice teaching project that went further than just teaching them how to change a few parts. He said it was him who was given the honour of naming 91127. I wish we had had a bit more time to chat and hope he will enjoy his well deserved retirement.

Good to see you. Been a while since I saw you comment. Back then these brand new locomotives would be such a change for you, sad seeing steam go but exciting times too.

For some reason my reply vanished. Thanks Dave. These engines have 16 cylinders with 4 turbo chargers which give them that pulsating whistle. I am leaning on the white pillar and when looking in the cab window a bit later.
