@nightshiftfishing8 күн бұрын
I really like my ODM Jigster and Shimano Saragosa 14K combo. I do use it for everything - jigs, swimmers and top water. That said it is definitely overkill for swimmers such as SP Minnows. But when I only carry one setup it’s the Jigster. 🎣🐟

So nice. Thanks for sharing. I"m just retired (66) and now can spend time doing this. But it's like I'm starting from scratch because it's been so long! I've been out at Plum Island and around Seabrook/Hampton/Rye/Portsmouth NH for the past couple of weeks, but nothing. Pretty sure the problem is that I'm going in the middle of the day. Starting to bum me out that it looks like I'll be having to get out of bed early to have any luck. I live an hour from the coast. :-( Well, I guess you gotta do what you gotta do! :-}
@nightshiftfishing8 күн бұрын
First, congratulations on your retirement! As far as fishing goes, typically the middle of the day is not the ideal time. Usually striped bass are an evening, night time and first light type of bite for the best opportunities. That said any time can work given the right conditions (tide, current, weather, bait, etc…) at your spot of choice. One of the best things I could recommend is trying different times and also interacting with others you encounter fishing in those spots. Pick their brains and watch what they do that is successful. You can also get a lot of good tips/pointers from the local bait shops near the spots. I will say if you’re always tired because you’ve been up late/early/all night fishing for striped bass then you’re doing it right! Tight Lines! 🎣🐟

Matt I have never caught a striped bass or any fish or even got hit on the cape cod canal and was wondering what is the secret this time of year?
@nightshiftfishing9 күн бұрын
The key right now is to just keep casting and keep a bait in the water. It’s been a slow June at the Canal, so I don’t think you’re alone. Just keep after it. I have a video about the Top 3 Canal lures, check that out but also visit the local bait shops and talk to the folks there to see what is happening. Then go down to the Canal and watch what is working. You’ll see some folks catching more than others - look at what they are using for gear, lures/bait and where they’re fishing… Then, just keep casting! Tight lines! 🎣🐟

@nightshiftfishing13 күн бұрын
Hey there - thanks for watching! I typically don’t go into “spots” but if you watch the videos you’ll see some regular spots I tend to fish. As for the tides, look for low tides near sunrise. These will produce the breaking tides when stripers pin bait in the Canal. 🎣🐟

@nightshiftfishing22 күн бұрын
I use the big Magic Swimmer (228) almost all the time. I always have blue mackerel and ghost color schemes with me. I sometimes have the 190 in ghost as well. But usually I just go with the big bait. It is a chore to cast and it sounds like a wet sock when it splashes down.

Great video man. Which rod/reel setup do you use for each of those lures?
@nightshiftfishing24 күн бұрын
Thank you! My go-to rod/reel combo for the Canal is an 11’ ODM Jigster rated 4-10oz paired with a Shimano Saragosa 14K. I’m not a fan of bringing expensive reels on those rocks at the ditch and I believe the Gosa is the best bang for your buck value out there in terms of reels for its price. I also use a 10’6” TFO rated 2-6oz paired with a Penn Slammer III 6500 for topwater. Early in the season I use a Lamiglas Carbon Surf 9’ rated 0.5-3oz paired with a Shimano Saragosa 6K when the early arrivals are showing up.

@@nightshiftfishingthanks for the reply. Is that a 3 tube zbelt surf bag you’re using? How do you like it?

@@emoney508 yes, I previously used the 2-tube version and I liked that one but I stuffed all my pencils and jigs in there. It was too much. So when Luke dropped the 3-tube version I picked one up. I really like it. Simple and just the right size for me.
